Milford Plans Homecoming Activities On School Grounds

The town of Milford will hold homecoining activities on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29. , The day will begin at 10 a.m. and will feature a parade, cube king and queen contest, volleyball tournament, bicycle races and the annual community bar-t>q. Theevent is being spearheaded by the Milford Area Development Council. Thames Maury. TRAILER DESTROYED — The mobile home shown above was completely destroyed by fire at 11:30 p.m. Sunday night. The loss was estimated at $3,500. The home, located at Pinkerton's Landing on Dewart Lake, was owned by Fred Fisher.

Ton Reiff, parade chairman, it was made known that Lorin J. Badskey, president-elect of Kiwanis International, will be Grand Marshal of this year’s parade which will step off at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 24. Mr. Badskey resides at 135 ElRay Park, North Webster. He will take office as President of Kiwanis International October 1, 1972, serving until September 30, 1973. Hie Grand Marshal has been a Kiwanis member for 26 members, and has served in such offices as club president (1950), Lieutenant Governor (1951), Governor (1957), and chairman of various district committees (1952-64). Last year he served as treasurer of Kiwanis International. and vice president in 1969-70. He was instrumental in forming the Lakeland Kiwanis club three years ago, Kiwanis International claims over 300,000 members in 38 counties. The distinguished North Webster resident is (resident of the LML Engineering and Mfg. Corp, at Columbia City. He and his wife Ruby have two children, Jerry, also a member of the Lakeland Kiwanis club, and a daughter Janet, and five grandchildren.

Oscar Pina is serving as chairman for the bicycle races which will begin at 3 p.m. The races will begin on the school grounds. Trophies and ribbons will be awarded to the winners in each category — ages six to eight, ages nine to 11, ages 12 to 14, ages 15 to 20, ages 20 to 40 and 41 and over. No tandems will be allowed.

Memorial Day Services At Syracuse The annual Memorial Day service at Syracuse, sponsored by the American Legion, Wawasee Post 223. will be held Monday afternoon with Father Eugene Zimmerman of Saint Martin dePorres church as guest speaker. A parade will be held with formation time set for 1:30 p.m. in the 100 block of East Main street. Ed Droke is parade chairman. So Attends Meeting In Indianapolis Harold Young, Milford, retired Lakeland elementary principal, represented Kosciusko county at die Indiana Retired Teachers’ Association meeting hejd in Indianapolis last Friday. Mr. Young is treasurer of the county association. Also attending from the county were president Chesteen Chapple and legislative chairman Leonard Barnhart.

COMMENCEMENT IS SUNDAY AT WAWASEE The fourth annual commencement exercises will be held in the physical education building at Wawasee high school on Sunday. May 28, at 3 p.m. A total of 198 seniors are candidates for graduation.

Memorial Day Services Set At Webster North Webster community residents will be involved in various aspects of Memorial Day services on Monday, May 29, with services to start at 10 a.m. when a wreath will be cast into the North Webster Lake to honor all sailors. Included in this ceremony will be the color guard, firing squad, the Legion’s sergeant-at-arms Detmer Stair and chaplain Jim Kuhn. Parade At 11 o’clock, a parade will form at the American Legion Post 253 and will include Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Legion «Auxiliary members and Legionaires for a march to the cemetery. The North Webster junior high school band will furnish appropriate music. Rev. John Weeks of the United Methodist church, will deliver the address. In charge of planning the memorial service is Legion post commander Don Jemigan and Stair.

KCH Drive For Funds Nudges Million Mark!

The special gifts division of the Founders’ Fund campaign to raise a minimum of $1.5 million to help build Kosciusko Community Hospital reported today a total of $21,880 in pledges received by volunteers in the division. This brings the campaign total to $902,400 which is 60 per cent of the overall minimum objective. Division chairman Robert Myers, operating group manager of R. R. Donnelley and Sons, made the announcement, saying, **l am pleased with the results retained by our division’s 75 volunteers Their dedication to the success of this funding program is being met with enthusiasm from many individual and corporate donors. It is exciting to observe an unfolding of community support that has become apparent at all levels in this campaign.” Myers emphasized that all of his volunteers are anticipating the successful completion of their selected presentations as early as mid-June. Other division reports to date show that initial gifts now has a total of $260,095, primary gifts has increased its pledge total to $585,590 and major gifts pledges amount to $34,835. The 30 major industrial and business firms throughout the county, who have agreed to employee participation in this campaign, have begun solicitation of those employee

Youth Group Attends Rally The junior Church of God youth advance group of the Syracuse Church of God attended the youth rally at the Olive Branch church on May 13 with 35 from the Syracuse church in attendance, bringing home the state banner for the third consecutive time. Tod Stutzman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Stutzman of Syracuse, was a winner in the kite flying contest.

LANCELOT LOUNGE OPENING — The new cocktail lounge and supper club, the Lancelot Lounge, located at the south edge of North Webster, will have its formal opening Friday and Saturday, May 26 and 27, according to its owners and operators, Homer and Vivian Graber. The club has been open for several weeks, but its formal opening is scheduled for the Memorial Day week end. The club’s dining room seats 266 patrons, and the lounge seats 100. The building is designed and constructed in keeping with the Medieval theme of the town of North Webster.

I RECEIVES S2OO CHECK — Phil Campbell, treasurer of the Milford fire department, is shown on the left receiving a check for S2OO I from Chuck Stump, vice president and assistant general manager of Chore-Time Equip. Co., for radio equipment for the fire fighting units. Campbell said $2,350 is yet needed to equip all units and donations will be appreciated. He said SB9O was paid by the town for a radio in the town truck; SB9O by the township for a radio in the township truck pumper; $795 by the township for a radio in the township truck tanker; $795 by volunteers for a radio in the township grass truck; $1,034 by volunteers for base station; $603 by volunteers for tower and antenna; and $1,293 by volunteers for two walkie-talkie units. The town of Milford and Van I Buren township together paid $2,575, while proceeds from the October 1971 chicken barbecue raised $1,375 toward the radio units.
