They had sold pledges for so much per mile walked, and the money to to be given to the Cardinal Learning; Center as part of their fund-raising project to build a new center. The students will take up the walk st 8 a.m. next Saturday where they left off. with hopes of walking the remaining nine miles. Anyone wishing to pledge for the Saturday walk can do so by contacting the high school. One student, Linda Lundquist, will collect 85.25 per mile she walks. Junior Merry Maidens Hold Banquet By KRLB BREMBECK The Junior Merry Maidens 4-H dub held its mother-daughter banquet on May 9 at 0 p.m. in the fire station at Milford The meeting was opened by president Brenda Davis. The American pledge was given by Kris Brembeck, the 4-H pledge by Jane Wilson. Devotions were then given by Melissa Tom. The supper was served. Firemen Extinguish » Dump Fire In Early Morning Hours Syracuse firemen were called out at 1.08 this morning (Wednesday) at the Frank Beiber property several blocks north of the Frog when a dump fire burned out of control and endangered buildings nearby. The fire was extinguished. Memorial Day Services Set At Syracuse The annual Memorial Day service at Syracuse has been set for Monday, May 29, according to a spokesman for the American Legion. Wawasee Post 223 Ed Drake is parade chairman and a parade lineup time has been set at 1:90 p.m. in the 100 block of East Main street with the parade to start at 1:45. Paraders will go to the Syracuse cemetery for other services to be held. Taps will be by Jeff Miller, son of Mr and Mrs. Walter Miller of Syracuse. A carry-in dinner for legionaires and auxiliary will be held immediately following services at the Legion home.

Booked At Jail v Following Mishap Telesforo S. Garcia, 35, of r 2 Milford was booked at the Kosciusko county jail Friday following a minor mishap north of Warsaw at the US 30 bypass construction site on SR 15. He was charged with driving under the influence of intoxication beverages, public intoxication and reckless driving after his car ran into a ditch. Deputy sheriff Richard Fehnel was the arresting officer Graduates From Indiana University Mrs. Cleo Strieby of Syracuse spent the past week with her son and wife, the David Striebys, at Bloomington and attended the Sunday graduation of Mr. Strieby at Indiana university. Also attending the Sunday graduation were his sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Hubartt of Syracuse and they were also week rod house guests in the Strieby home. David is now engaged in graduate work. Fifth Grade Enjoys Tour Recently the fifth grade of Milford’s junior high school enjoyed a field trip to Warsaw where they toured several hiwinros places. They enjoyed lunch in Warsaw and went roller skating. Mothers accompanying the field trip were Mrs. Stephen Baumgartner and Mrs. Jake Jackson.

DANA BERGHORN Mr. and Mrs. Gene Berghorn of r,3 Syracuse are the parents of Dana Berghorn. Dana is taking physics, concert chorus, government, English, physical education and physcology this year. His favorite subject area to social studies. Dana is a three-year-member of the Lettermen’s club and of the varsity swimming team and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Dana won the inspirational swimmer award for the 1970-71 season. He plans to continue his education at Ball State university. He has a brother, Dave, who is 18 and two sisters, Cathy 16, and Beverly, 15. Dana works at the Palace of Sweets. Swimming is his favorite sport and snow and water skiing and swimming are his hobbies. ' -WHS—KAREN SUE ALLEN Karen Sue Allen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Allen of r 4 Syracuse. She is taking English, math, physics, government, choir and band this year. Math is her favorite subject. A very active member of the senior class, Karen has been in FTA for two years, executive council, national honor society, pep band, girls sports club, UMYF, student council, GAA and music ensembles as well as traveling to Europe with the School Choir of America last year. She is a national merit finalist, 1971 Miss FTA, FFA Sweetheart and a homecoming queen candidate. Karen plans to attend Butler university. She hopes to become a high school math teacher. This WHS senior has one brother, Larry Allen, 14, in the eighth grade. Karen is a lifeguard at the high school pool. Swimming, basketball and football are her favorite sports. Playing the piano, reading and water skiing are her hobbies. —WHS—LANA MAE BUHRT Lana Mae Buhrt is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Buhrt of r 1 Syracuse. She is taking government, personal Jjaancial management and office ‘Hab this year. Office lab is her faverite subject. Lana is a member of the Concord United Methodist church. She has been in 4-H eight years, FHA four years, the Yteens one year, health careers dub three years, girls’ sports dub one year and girls' cheerblock. Lana plans to attend International junior college this fall. She has a sister, Pat, who is a junior at Wawasee and two brothers, Don, a freshman at Wawasee and Phil, in the sixth grade at Milford. Lana works part-time at the »th Century Restaurant. Water and snow skiing and ice skating are her favorite sports. Playing the piano, knitting and sewing are her hobbies. —WHS—KATHERINE MARIE MATO Katherine Marie Mato is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald E. Fergison of r 1 North Webster. She is taking government, art, DE related subjects and DE coop this year. Art is her favorite subject. She has been a member of the gymnastics team for two yean and has participated in DECA for two yean. She placed third on the balance beam during her < sophomore year. After graduating she plans re work at Thornburg Drugs in North Webster where she is currently employed. She also plans to work for her dad at the riding stables which will open in April and to planning an August wedding Kathy has a sister Laura Mato and a brother Paul Fergison at home and an older brother Mike Mato. BARRY BAUMBAUGH Barry William Baumbaugh is the son of William and Vella Baumbaugh of r 2 Syracuse. He is taking physics, chemistry two, art three, government and math four this year. Physics is his favorite subject. He is a member of the National Rifle Association. College is in this senior’s ftiture. Barry has one brother, Alan, who is a student at Indiana Institute of Technology. Hockey is his favorite sport. His hobbies include hunting, fishing and trapping. —WHSPHILLIPE. HOUSER Phillip E. Houser is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Houser of r 4 Syracuse. His older brother is Robert J., 20, a 1970 graduate of Wawasee, now a welder at Smoker Boat Co. Phil is taking building and trades, government and U. S. history. Building and trades is his favorite subject. This senior plans to work until he is 21 and then apply for a position with the Indiana state police or the department of conservation. He works for Merrill’s Marina in the summer. Hunting, fishing, ice skating and swimming are his sports. His favorite book is ‘"Die Learning Tree.” His hobbies include scuba diving. He is currently attending diving class, including first aid training. Phil attended the state police career camp in July 1971. The camp was sponsored by the Kiwanis club. -WHS—JAMES V. GAFF James V. They were winners at the Kosciusko county 4-H Share-The Fun contest on April 24 and for the third consecutive year were named as honor group winners at Triton school on May 11 at the sub-area contest in competition with Elkhart, Marshall and Saint Joseph counties. They are eligible to be chosen to appear at the 4-H round-up at Purdue in June. Mrs. Fred Weisser to the adult leader of the dub. Wawasee Prep To Hold Girls All-Sports Camp

For the first time, Wawasee Prep’s summer sports program at Syracuse will provide an opportunity for girls in the lakes area and surrounding communities to attend an All-Sports Camp. Director and coach Phil Jones has announced the dates of June 11 through June 17 as the girls’ week. Sports being offered are: Gymnastics, swimming, scuba-ski-canoeing, volleyball, tennis,

; Maxwelton Play Beat The Pro A total of 41 ladies played in ladies day at Maxwelton Golf club Tuesday with play for the day "Beat the Pro.” Os the 20 18-hole players, no player beat the pro, however all winners tied with him. They were Dot Hossinger, Ginny Peters, Ginny Jarman and Marge Newcomer. In the 9-hole division, with handicaps, the following ladies beat the pro: Lu Herald, Anita Peterson, Inez Beiswanger, Edie Little and Mary Kimble. Tee Times Remain * The Same for Golf Inter-Club Play Tee times as announced last week for the South ShoreMaxwelton Inter-club tournament will remain the same for play rescheduled for this**' Saturday, May 20, due to rain last Saturday, according to an announcement from club pro Steve Roderick at South Shore. LAKELAND LOCALS * Mrs. Hazel Kline was honored at a Mother’s Day dinner in the home of her son, Mr. and Mrs. v Marlin Kline, at Middlebury. Also present were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smoker and Debbie of near Leesburg. Vicki Little, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Little of Milford, was home from Ball State university over the week end and was treated to dinner at a Syracuse restaurant in honor of her birthday on Monday.
