Scout Pack Helps "Keep America Beautiful"
Cub Scout Pack 28 at Syracuse recently had a work day “Keep America Beautiful” and this group of over 40 youths helped in cleaning the roadsides and parks
HONORED ONE’ - Steven Keim, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lemoine Keim of Syracuse, was the "Honored One" at a meeting recently of Cub Scout Pack 28 at Syracuse. The youth has been very active in scouting and many outstanding awards. New Cub Pack Being Formed A new cub scout pack, numbered 128. is being formed in z Syracuse and will be applying for a charter in the near future, with Saint Andrew s United Methodist church as the sponsoring institution. Robert Jensen, has been selected as cubmaster Terry McLeod is chairman of the pack committee along with Larry Clodfelter. Phil Kiem, Gene Hall and Don Scholer Another member is to be named. The committee will help in planning and general improvements of the pack This group will involve youths between the ages of 8 and 11. Milford Driver Unhurt When Truck Rolls Over Larry L. Kirkdorffer, 35, of r 1 Milford escaped injury at 8:05 a m. Saturday when his partially loaded milk truck rolled over along CR 37 a mile south of the Fish Lake road (CR 34 ) east of Goshen Kirkdorffer driving a 1969 GMC truck hauling milk for Burger Dairy, New Paris, was northbound on CR #7 at 35 miles per hour He had crossed a bridge and pulled over to the right for an oncoming car when his truck slipped off«the edge of the pavement into the soft berm and roiled over damaging a fence at the Henry Schlabach property Damage to the truck was set at 53,000 according to Elkhart county sheriff's patrolman Michael Garber

Sustain Injuries In U.S. 6 Crash Randall C. Brady. 17. r 1 Syracuse and Douglas Ringler. 17, Syracuse, sustained injuries in a crash involving a 1970 GMC truck cab and the 1966 Plymouth driven by Brady, at 4:45 Wednesday afternoon on U.S. 6 just east of CR 11 in Union township. Both .vehicles were eastbound on U.S. 6. according to a witness and Brady reportedly signaled for a left turn onto the countyroad when his auto was hit from behind by the truck driven by Lawrence L. McComb, 54. Chicago. 111. He was driving for Cooper-Jarret, Inc., of Orange. N. J. . Brady sustained a scalp laceration and Ringler had lacerations of the left arm and forehead. The truck driver was not hurt. Damage by Elkhart countypolice was listed at SI,OOO to the truck and the car, valued at SI,OOO. was totaled Webster Woman Hit By Truck At Syracuse Stoplight Mrs Max (Brenda) Snyder, 24. r 1 North Webster, was taken by ambulance to Goshen hospital for observation and treatment around 9 a m Tuesday. May 10, after she was knocked to the pavement by a bakery- truck as she attempted to cross East Mam street. Syracuse, at the intersection of Main and Hungtinton Thomas Norman Allsop. 27, Edwardsburg, Mich., and driver of a 1968 GMC truck owned by Interstate Bakeries Corp . South Bend, told police he was southbound on Huntington and waited at the intersection for oncoming traffic before attempting a left turn onto East Main, at which point the North Webster woman was hit by the vehicle Both parties involved apparently were with the intersection light and the truck driver did not see the pedestrian in time to avoid collision. Mrs Snyder was accompanied by- a young child at the time of the mishap. Mrs. Snyder was returned to her home and taken by her husband to a Fort Wayne hospital for further examination Syracuse police investigated

Bridge Group Holds Spring Luncheon The Lakeland Afternoon Bridge-O-Rama group held its spring luncheon and bridge party on May 8 at Maxwelton Golf club and awards for the year were given. Gross score winners for the year were: First, Mrs. Peter Blue and Mrs. William Brammer; second, Mrs. Harold Gray and Mrs. H. C. Yeager; third, Mrs. Paul Warner and Mrs. Robert De ahi; and fourth. Mrs. R E. Thornburg and Mrs Walter Davidson. Net score winners were: First. Mrs. Blue and Mrs. Brammer; second, Mrs. Warner and Mrs. Deahl; third, Mrs Thornburg and Mrs Davidson; and fourth, Mrs. Yeager and Mrs. Gray. Day's PlayWinners at play during the afternoon were: First, Mrs. Ralph Clingaman; second, Mrs. R E. rhornburg; and third, Mrs. Dale Allen. The group voted to donate proceeds for the year to the Lakeland Youth Center. Elected to serve as cochairmen of the group for next year were Mrs. Thomas Gerstner and Mrs. Willard Nusbaum. Persons interested in afternoon bridge next winter should contact either of the above ladies. No Injuries In One-Car Mishap Perry J. White. 25, of r 2 Warsaw lost control of his car as a small animal darted across the road in front of him Tuesdaynight. The mishap occurred on the Armstrong road, one mile east of Leesburg at 9:45 p.m. The car went out of control and rolled over several times before coming to a stop. 14 YEARS AGO, MAY 22,1958 Mr. and Mrs. Robert Geiger and family returned Monday evening after a week’s vacation trip thru northern Michigan, Canada and visiting the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. Mrs. Ernest Bailey entertained several friends in honor of her daughter, Patty, who was ten years old Saturday. Friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Devon Davis came to their home with tractors, corn planters, and harrows last Friday and prepared and planted 136 acres of com and beans. Cub Scouts of Den 3 met at the home of their leader. Mrs. Louis Kitchen, after school. The Saturday night sock hop at the Milford community building had a good attendance of ISO. BIRTHS: Mr. and Mrs. Allen Roudabush are the parents of a daughter born Sunday; Mr. and Mrs. John Augsburger, Jr., are the parents of a daughter bom May 21. The regular meeting of the Milford Chamber of Commerce will be held at the Melody Case Tuesday. The annual inspect ion of the Milford, Goshen and Leesburg chapters of the Order of Eastern Star was held in the Masonic Temple, Goshen, Monday evening. The Merry Maidens 4-H club met at the home of Louise and Dorothy Pinkerton. The third annual Vacation Bible School will open next Monday in the school building with Rev. C. C. Cripe acting as dean.
