Wawasee Girls Second In District II Track Meet
Wawasee high school's girls' track team placed second in the district II meet held at Wawasee on May 6. Elkhart won the meet with 76 points while the Warriors had 44. Following Elkhart and Wawasee were Northridge with 42, John Glenn with 41, Warsaw with 31, Plymouth with 30, Goshen with 25, .Akron with 21, Penn and Concord with 17 each, North Wood with 16, Riley with 12, Mishawaka with 10, La Ville with nine and Bethany Christian with eight Individual results follow: 880 yard hurdles — Hawkins NR, Adams PL. Northern Lakes Conference Track Meet Set For Thursday
Warsaw will host the Northern Lakes Conference track meet this coming Thursday on their new track facilities located south of the high school The meet starts at 6 pm. with trials m field events, dashes and hurdles The finals are scheduled around 7. The starter for this meet as in every NLC meet to date will be Walter (Dutch) Thurston of Mishawaka NLC track queens from each school
Snowmobile Awards Are Presented The Indiana Snowmobile Association held it’s annual awards banquet at a North Webster restaurant on May 6 Trophies were awarded to the champions for the 1971-72 winter season Drivers collected points for placing in races this season held at Angola, North Webster. Hits And Misses Hold Banquet The Hits and Misses bowling league at Syracuse held its annual awards banquet Saturdaynight at Wawasee Bowl with all members in attendance. Trophies to league champions were presented the winning team, American Industries, composed of Matt and Elvina Solomon. Erma Mast and Carroll Walton. Other trophy winners were: High series men — J. R. Cripe High series women — Sherri Butler High individual game men — Clair Mohler High individual game women — tie. Jean Brown and Donna Mangona. Others receiving honors were Nell Webb and Bob Maggart for most improved averages. Julie Livengood and Arlene Mohler received door prizes. J. R. Tuesday League Elects Officers The Tuesday Night Ladies bowling league had its annual banquet Tuesday evening at a North Webster restaurant. There were 58 ladies present. Linda Crow, president, conducted the short business meeting at which time the following officers were elected. Vice president — Sharon Gilbert Secretary — Barbara Miller Treasurer — Joan Hoover Serving with the above officers will be Linda Crow, president, and Barbara Gardner. Sgt.-at-Arms. Out-going officers are JoyHostetler. vice president; Sharon Gilbert, secretary; and Maxine Pifer, treasurer. The president appointed Jan Clemons to represent the league on the board of directors of the junior bowler association. Mary Lou Dixon, national delegate, reported on the Women’s International Bowling Congress convention held last week in Kansas City, Mo. Prize money, trophies and individual pins were presented to the various winners. The Frog Tavern team, consisting of Brenda Kern, Linda Crow. Nesta Kern, Barbara Gardner and Mary Lou Dixon, won the league championship. Other awards presented were as follows: High individual game and series — Barbara Gardner Most improved average — Jan Clemons WIBC league high series — Barbara Gardner WIBC triplicate patch — KayMiller WIBC 600 club patch, pin and membership card — Sue Hoover. Wakarusa Outraces Syracuse Teams Wakarusa won both halves of seventh and eighth grade track meets from the visiting Syracuse junior high teams last Thursday. Wakarusa’s eighth grade team won by a 71-33 score while the seventh grade team finished on top 59-59-36. John Schacht won the mile, Steve Kroh the half mile and Larry Allen tied for first in the high jump. Syracuse’s 880-relay team won their only other first

Keith Cripe led the Syracuse seventh grade with a tie for first in the high jump and second place finishes in the pole vault and hurdles. Kevin McCarty won a hurdle race and Mike Fields took the 660. This was the last regular season track meet for the junior high with the county track meet this Friday, May 12, and the Lakeland corporation junior high meet, Tuesday, May 16. WHS Marks Two More Victories The Wawasee Warrior golf team captured two additional golf meets during the pafst week as they downed Wawasee Prep and West Noble. The Wawasee Prep game was played on the Wawasee Golf club’s course with the Warriors walking away with 169-182 and 190-205 wins. The West Noble game was played at Maxwelton with the Warriors winning the matches 160-169 and 173-191. Low medalists for the Wawasee Prep game on the A team were John Didier and Tom Hall with 41 each. Ed Binzel of Prep also hit 41. During the West Noble match Bob Bauman and Larry Stidham each hit 37. Dal Ummel 41. John Didier 45 and Greg Ummel 46. West Noble was led by Mike Scott with 39.
