Rev. K. E. Robinson Granted Sabbatical Year By UM Church
Rev. Kennard E. Robinson. minister of Calvary United Methodist church, Syracuse, has been granted a sabbatical leave of one year by the United Methodist church, beginning June 1. Rev. Robinson has served the Syracuse congregation for 14 years and is completing his 20th year in the pastoral ministry. Coming to Syracuse in June of 1958, Rew Robinson was responsible for re-locating Calvary church to its present site, along Highway 13 south of Syracuse. He directed the building program for the new church which was dedicated in October of 1961 A new parsonage was dedicated in September of 1965. Rev. Robinson has his BA degree from Macalester college, Saint Paul, Minn. He is a graduate of the Saint Paul Bible college and holds graduate degrees from Bethel Seminary, Saint Paul, and Evangelical Theological Seminary, Naperville, 111. In addition to his pastoral ministry, Rev. Robinson has held several denominational and conference positions. For five years he served as a member of the denominational board of world mission, Dayton, Ohio, as well as executive secretary of the Indiana Conference North Board of Missions He was serving as President of this board at the time of church union. He was a member of the conference council of administration and the conference program council. For five years he served as director of World Missions night, an annual conference-wide program For nine years he was host pastor to the Indiana north annual conference held at Oakwood Park He served as a group leader of the South Bend district. In the summer of 1967 he participated as a leader in a work project to Puerto Rico, sponsored by the board of missions Hrs~ biography is included in "Indiana Lives," published in 1967 by the Historical Record Association. Rev Robinson is presently a trustee of the University of Evansville, and serves as secretary of the district committee on higher education. He is a member of the district property committee and secretary of the conference section on church extension. Community-wise, Rev. Robinson is president of the Syracuse town library board. He has been both an honorary and active Rotarian. He has twice served as president of the

L - S ■ REV. K. E. ROBINSON ministerial association and helped spearhead the boat-in-worship services held on Lake Wawasee,‘ as well as the dial-a-prayer program Rev. Robinson is a licensed pilot with membership in the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and is president of the Sky Knights Flying club. Rev. and Mrs. Robinson plan to live in the Wawasee area during the coming year. Rev. Robinson will be working with the Billy Graham Association along with several other projects. Mrs. Robinson has been granted tenure with the Lakeland Community School Corporation and is planning to continue teaching second grade in the Syracuse elementary school. Pigs Stolen At Thwaits Farm A total of 40 Hampshires, weighing 35 to 40 pounds each, were stolen from the Donald Th"Wxits farm north of Syracuse on r 1 last week. Thwaits placed the value of the pigs at 91,000. The Elkhart county sheriffs department continues investigation. RECUPERATLNG FROM FALL IN HOME Mrs Arthur Shannon of r 3 Syracuse is convalescing at her home for an injury sustained in a fall at her home at which time she chipped a bone in her hip. She is reported as progressing satisfactorily.
Minor Damage In Car-Damage Mishap A trailer frame being hauled by a 1968 Ford truck which was being driven by Chester F. Bond, 25, r 1 Warsaw, clipped a 1971 Oldsmobile operated by Violet E. Wolfe, 42, r 1 Leesburg. The accident took place at the junction of U.S. 33 and CR 33 east at Benton. The mishap occurred at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, May 4. No injuries were reported and only minor damage was done. 80 Participate In Kite-Fly Gusty, kite destroying winds added excitement to the Cub Scout kite-fly Saturday, May 6. Over 80 boys, aided by parents and den mothers, enjoyed the competition. Sharing the crowded skies of Warsaw with the kites were balloons, promoting the coming Scout Fair, released under the guidance of Explorer Post 67 and John Leek. All active packs in Kosciusko county were represented: 26 Leesburg, 28 Syracuse, 29 Milford, 30 Warsaw, 36 Warsaw, 47 Warsaw, 59 Warsaw, 61 Pierceton, 67 Warsaw, 70 Claypool, 82 Burket, 99 Warsaw, 119 Warsaw. Winners were: largest attendance 36, 47, 30; most awards won 28. 36 and 82. Cubs (and their packs) winning were: For distance (kite to boy) Steven Deck (28) 1,392 feet; Robert Wagner (28 ) 800 feet; Mark Clark (119) 664 feet. For largest kite: Brian Roberts (28), Kim Platt (29) and Steven Tucker (82); smallest kites Phil Patson (30) and Kirt Burner (36) who tied for first, Steven Deck (28) and Marlin Marydot (82); art work, Steven Deck (28), Mike CHani (36) and Dorey Mayhew (36). HE P a * HEARING PROGRAM STARTED — A hearing conservation program began at the Weatherhead company in Syracuse in March of this year. This program involves the testing of individual hearing levels at various frequencies to determine hearing acuity. In conjunction with the hearing testing, the company is personally fitting each employee in the plant with personal hearing protection devices to help reduce any hearing loss particularly in the high noise level areas of the plant Along with the audiometric program, the company has initiated engineering studies on noise abatement in the machining areas, along with periodic sound level surveys throughout the plant. On Memtrial Day, members will take part in the annual parade and service at the cemetery. The next meeting will be on June 5. Bill Pipp Honored At Indiana Bill Pipp, son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Pipp of Syracuse, received an award at the little 500 bicycle races recently at Indiana university. The award is given annually to eight IU football
players for outstanding performances, practice, including winter conditioning and Cream and Crimson games. Pipp has also received a letter from the Dallas Cowboys that they are watching him and might be interested in his services in the future. Our local restaurant is having a very special celebration today. It’s the 15th birthday of that sprig us parsley that goes on the steak.
