(j.g.) and Mrs. Sanford Mullet announce the birth of a son, William Edgar, born on April 21. Cassie Wells is spending the spring vacation from Hanover college with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wells. Ann Purdum left April 24 from Hanover college for Europe where she will study for the last term at the University of Tours in France. Mike Smith has been named as Boys’ Stater with Jerry Claybaugh as alternate. John R. Kramer has accepted the appointment to the United States air force academy at Colorado in June. The Wawasee Gun club shooters downed 4,000 birds Sunday. TEN YEARS AGO Mrs. Frank Bates, Mrs. Jack Carr and Dr. and Mrs. O. C. Stocking attended sessions of the ORS Grand chapter at Indianapolis this week. Lester J. Modesitt, 41, died Tuesday at his home. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Juday were Easter guests of their son, Rex, and family at Osceola. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Alfrey announce the engagement of their daughter. Dian, to Ensign John B. Holdeman of South Bend. Plans for another co-op apartment at Lake Wawasee were announced this week by R. Leon Connolly for Hubert and Carl Queisser of Indianapolis to be called Wawasee Colony and Yacht club on the site of the old Waco dance pavilion. ATTEND BOAT SHOW — Among the many who attended the annual boat show at Wawasee Boat Co. Saturday and Sunday were Dr. and Mrs. Reynolds Brissenden and daughter Robyn of Indianapolis. They are talking to Dale Butts, manager of Wawasee Boat Co., and Bill Wittig of Manistee, Mich., vice president and sales manager of Century Boat Co. Butts said the boat show was one of the company's most successful.

FORTY-FIVE YEARS AGO At the annual county oratorical contest on The Constitution at Warsaw Saturday, Arthur Morris, Syracuse, placed second and received sls. W. H. McCullough, attendance officer, reported that Syracuse had 1,914 students absent from school in March with 1,895 being legally excused, 22 cases of tardiness and general attendance was 96.7 per cent; Africa township school had 88 per cent attendance and Vawter Park, 96.5 per cent. The second semester honor roll shows Elizabeth McClintic, Blanche Mellinger and Edwin Lung with seventh grader Velva Brown. On the roll last month of the school were Elizabeth McClintic, Eva Yoder, Blanche Mellinger, Rebecca Fleming, seniors; Maxwell Brower and Maxine Jenson, juniors; Arnold Culver, Velma Fleming and Esther Long, freshmen; Paul Grimes, Helen Grindle and Mamie Wogoman, grade 8; and Mary Jensen, grade 7. Reports Theft Os 35 Hogs
The theft of 35 hogs from a stockyard near Milford is being investigated by officers. They are also investigating the theft of a stock truck from South Whitley which occurred late Thursday night or early Friday morning. Officers believe there might be some connection in the two incidents. Glen Byler of the J. H. Routh Packing Co. stockyards north of Milford on SR 15 reported the theft to the sheriff’s officials at 8 a.m. Friday. It was a short time later sheriff David Andrews and deputy Ron Robinson learned of the stolen stock truck from the stockyards in South Whitley on Thursday night. Byler told the officials that 28 of the hogs were white and weighed 190 pounds each, six were black and white* belts and weighed
