Student Council To Hold Annual Dinner April 28 The Milford junior high student council will bold its annual dinner at Foo and Faye’s this Friday, April 28. A guest at the dinner will be Mrs. Jesse Beer. The group has been promised a trip through the restaurant’s kitchen and a lesson in eating with chopsticks. Social Studies ' Class Plans Trip To D.C. The senior social studies classes at Wawasee high school are planning a one-day field trip on May 9 to Washington, D. C„ and have room left for 17 adults. The bus will leave Wawasee high school at 5:30 a m on the 9th for Baer Field in Fort Wayne and from there the group will fly to Washington. They will return via plane and arrive at WHS at approximately 10:30 p.m They plan to visit the Washington monument, Lincoln memorial, White House. Capitol building, Senate and House of Representatives. Supreme Court. Library of Congress, Smithsonian, Arlington National Cemetery and other points of interest. Reservations and payment must be in by May 5. The 17 extra seats will be sold on a first come, first serve basis Any interested adult in the community should contact the high school office for additional information. Newspapers Are Project Os Eighth Grade For a period of two weeks the eighth grade language arts classes of Milford will be learning how to get more out of a newspaper. Besides becoming acquainted • with the technical aspects, the students will concentrate on current events, state, national and world wide. " Emphasis will be placed on faster and more comprehensive reading The project will terminate with a visit to the printing plant, in South Bend.

Junior Meh-y Maidens Hold April Meeting By KRIS BREMBECK On April 11 the Junior Merry Maidens of Milford held their meeting It was called to order by president Brenda Davis. The American pledge was given by Kay Kammerer, the 4-H pledge by Kristi Bucher. The minutes were read and approved. The roll was called. There is $115.68 in the treasury. Devotions were given by Kathy Troup. We discussed candy money and the amount we sold. We elected hostesses for the motherdaughter banquet which is to be on May 9. A clean-up day is being held on May 6. We had our demonstrations and answered questions on projects. The meeting was dosed with refreshments.

PENNY WIGGS Penny Louise Wiggs is taking sociology, psychology, English government and occupational home ec this year. Sociology, psychology and home ec are her favorite subjects. Penny is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Wiggs of r 3 Syracuse. She is point chairman of the FFA, president of the health careers dub, a one-year member of FTA and a two-year member of the cheerblock. Penny is also a seven-year 4-H member. She has received perfect attendance awards for the past two years and has received an honorable mention award from the Goshen hospital and a letter for points in health careers. She plans to be married in October and hopes to work with slow learners w mental retardation cases. This senior has a brother, Gary Michael, a freshman at Wawasee and a sister, Mrs. Leonard (Julie) Livingood of r 3 Syracuse. Her favorite sports are basketball, football and wrestling. “Grapes of Wrath” is her favorite book. Ice skating and swimming are her hobbies. -WHSTIMOTHY EUGENE REIFF Mr. and Mrs. Sam Reiff of r 1 Warsaw are parents of Timothy Eugene Reiff. Timothy plans to work in construction after graduation and would like to farm. He is taking ag, personal financial management, government and vo ag mechanics. Ag and vo ag mechanics are his favorite subjects. He has three sisters, Laura, 14, Linda 13 and Beth, 12. Tim works for Kline Brothers Construction and at home on the family farm. She is taking government, personal finance, home ec and sociology this year and states home ec is her favorite subject. Shar is married and has a young child. Her plans after graduation are to stay home and take care of her child. She is a member of the Future Homemakers of America. Shar belongs to skiing, skating and neighborhood clubs. She has a brother, Chet, who is 24 and two sisters/Mrs Larrie (Joyce) Barrett. 21 and Luann, 17. Horseback riding is her favorite sport. Books on horses are her favorites and her hobby is singing. -WHSSUE ANN MONEYHEFFER Sue Ann Moneyheffer is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Moneyheffer of r 1 Milford. She is taking choir, personal finance, government and occupational foods Choir and foods are her favorite subjects. She has been a member of the char four years. FHA two years, Y-teens two years and the cheerblock one year. She is also a member of the Bethel church. Sue has a letter in music. After graduation she plans to work. She has three older sisters — Mrs. Henry (Linda) Miller of Rochester, a housewife; Mrs. Richard (Sharron) Sharp, a teacher in Fort Wayne; and Miss Jeanne Moneyheffer, a secretary in Elkhart. Her favorite sport is basketball and her favorite book is “Black Like Me.” Singing, piano, cooking and taking walks are her hobbies. -WHSTERRY VANLANINGHAM Terry Alan Vanlaningham is another of the Wawasee high school seniors who plans to enter pre-veterinarian studies at

Purdue university. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Vanlaningham of r 1 Milford. Terry is taking senior English and math, government, physics and agriculture. A very active member of the class, he has been a member of the National Haior Society, the class executive class, student council, freshman basketball team, track team, varsity wrestling team, FFA and the Lettermen’s club. He has been a member of the 4-H club for the past nine years. He has a sister, Mrs. Steve (Judy) Barker, a secretary in Cincinnati, Ohio; and a brother a student at Wawasee. Terry works for Drs. Miller and Schafer in Milford. Wrestling is his favorite sport. Sports are his hobby. —WHS—DAVID McKAY David Gene McKay plans to attend Oakland university in Rochester, Mich., or join the navy after graduating from Wawasee high school. He is the son of Coy and Glennis Gregory of r 1 Leesbir o David is taking physics, psychology, sociology, English, auto mechanics and government. Physics and auto mechanics are his favorite subjects. He is a member of the boy’s cheerblock % and has been a member of the science club for two years. David also belongs to the national bowling league. Brian, 14, and Gerald, 11, are his younger brothers. This senior works at Star Motor Sales. Football is his favorite sport* H. G. Wells’ “War of the World” is his favorite book. Weight training, trap shooting, hunting, fishing, trapping and working on cars are his hobbies. -WHSBRAD ALLEN MISHLER Brad Allen Mishler (dans to travel and then go into the armed services. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Boggs of r 4 Syracuse. Brad is taking government, auto mechanics and building trades. Government is his favorite subject. He has one brother, Mike, 20, who lives in Nappanee; and two sisters, Karen, 14, and Debbie, 19, who lives in Goshen. This WHS senior is an employee of Silveus and Bradway Sunoco. Hunting, fishing and camping are his favorite sports. Watching television is his hobby. -WHS—DALLAS DEVON UMMEL Dallas Devon Ummel is the son of Fluella Rose and Devon Eldon Ummel at r 4 Syracuse. He is another of the very active members of the senior class. Dallas is taking physics, mechanical drafting, English 12, - senior math and government. Senior math, drafting and physics are his favorite subjects. He has been a member of the baseball team for one year, the football team for two years, the basketball team for one year, the golf team for four years, the swimming team for three years, the Letterman’s club for three years, FTA for one year, the National Honor Society for one year and the German club for two years. He was awarded the most inspirational swimmer award for 1969-70. the most improved golfer for 1969-70 and Bob Ellis golf trophy in 1971. After graduating Dallas plans to attend Purdue university and major in engineering. Dallas has one brother, Gregory Alan, a junior. He also has two sisters, Teresa Anne, a sophomore and Linda Diane, a sixth grader. Dallas works at the pool. Golf is his favorite sport. “Ulysses” by Alfred Lord Tennyson is his favorite poem and water skiing, swimming, golf and hunting are his hobbies.

ROBERT LIST Robert H. List is the son of Thomas E. and Elizabeth L. List of r 1 Syracuse. He is taking English, government and building trades with building trades as his favorite subject. He was a member of the freshman football team at Warsaw and has been a member of the ski club for three years at Wawasee and the photography club for two years. After graduating he plans, to work and to finish a correspondence course in photography. Robert has several brothers and sisters — Tom is 23 and is a student at the Purdue extension in Fort Wayne, Betsy is 21 and attends Ball State university, Pat is 19 and works at Holiday Rambler in Nappanee, Bill is 16 and a junior at Wawasee, Don is 14 and in the eighth grade and Adam is eight. Robert works at the Milford Rubber plant. Water and snow skiing are his favorite sports. Photography, skiing and motorcycling are his hobbies. -WHSCAROLGREEN Carol Mae Green is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Green of r 1 Cromwell. This year she is taking exploratory teaching, English 12, government, occupational clothing and typing. Exploratory teaching and clothing are her favorite subjects. She is a member of the Future Homemakers of America and is currently serving as the organization’s vice president. She has also been a member of the health careers club fa- one year, FTA for one year, cheerblock for three years and the girls sports club for one year. Carol is a seven-year 4-H club member. She was named Wawasee’s Homemaker of the Year this year. Carol plans to attend Ball State university and major in home economics. She has two older brothers, Fred is a mechanic who resides in Churubusco and Bill is stationed at Fort Monmouth, N. . J., with the army. She also has a younger sister, Meg, who is in the eighth grade at Syracuse. His plans for the future include tech school where he will study auto body repair. Basketball is John’s favorite sport. Driving and playing basketball are his hobbies.

WHS Students Place ~ High In Math Exam

Wawasee high school placed fifth in the Indiana section of the 1972 national high school math examination. There were 70 schools entered in Wawasee’s classification of 300 to 999 students. The 1972 Wawasee high school team was made up of: Craig Tucker, Rebecca Long and Karen Allen.

Syracuse Honor Society Holds Initiation April 20

During a convocation at Syracuse junior high school on the afternoon of Thursday, April 20,11 students were inducted into the National Junior Honor society. Students are selected for membership by the faculty on the basis of scholarship, character, leadership, citizenship and service. Granting membership in this organization is the greatest scholastic honor that the school can bestow. Eighth grade students inducted were: Doug Pollock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pollock; and Jeff Smallwood, son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Smallwood. Seventh grade students inducted were: Kim Beezley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Beezley; Judy Bachtel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Bachtel; Andrea Griffith, daughter of Mr.

New Band To Be Recruited In Milford Schools Thirty new recruits for the new school band is the objective of the campaign which will begin soon in the Milford junior high school. “It is not impossible to achieve this goal,” says bandmaster Jim White. All parents desire their children to play some musical instruments, and the schools offer the best opportunity for them to do so. Unfortunately, every child is not naturally adapted to playing a musical instrument. In order to determine those best suited to participate, scientific tests have been given to determine the inherent musical ability of the children. Arrangements will be made whereby instruments may be rented for two months <.o make sure the children will succeed before further investment is made. The recruitment for the band program will be handled this year year through personal interviews, which will begin on

Counting all classifications there were 146 Indiana high schools participating in the 1972 contest with more than 5,000 students taking examinations. Craig Tucker, a junior at Wawasee high school, placed 21st on the list of winners regardless of school size. Tucker will receive a gold pin for being the 1972 Wawasee high school winner.

The candle-light ceremony was proceeded by a musical performance of the Syracuse junior high chorus. Mr. Blackwell directed the chorus in Bom To Be Free, Holy is the Lord, Battle Hymn of the Republic and Put a Little Love in Your Heart. Milton Brice, honor society sponsor, then introduced the initiation ceremony which was conducted entirely by students. Parents of those being initiated were invited to the ceremony.
