During the business meeting Mrs. Stan Scott, Americanism chairman, gave a talk on “Song of Songs — the National Anthem.” Mrs. Dean Baker announced the garage sale will be May 5 and 6 at Ralph Berkeypile’s home garage. Mrs. Bill Leemon reported next month is poppy month and posters will be made and judged. Mrs. Hatty Becker, Gold Star chairman, reported her committee has remembered the Gold Star mothers of the unit on their birthday this year. The song and hymn of the month were sung by the members. The refreshment committee for May is Mrs. Becker, Miss Hilda Ruch. Mrs. Esther Poynter and Mrs. Robert Reed. Mrs. Dorothy Williams will be the guest speaker. In Auto Mishap Returning Home Mrs. Russell Warner of r 3 Syracuse has returned to her home following a winter stay at Saint Petersburg, Fla. En route home in a new Plymouth driven by Richard Warner of Nappanee, and accompanied by his wife, the three were involved in an accident at Peru when a large dog bolted into their path on the heavily travelled highway and they were unable to avoid hitting the animal. Damage was extensive to the car and undriveabie. A stationwagon was sent from Goshen to Peru for the Indiana residents to continue home. No one was injured in the mishap, however the dog was killed. TAKE TRIP TO NASSAU The annual group organized through Merl and Maggie Smith of Maxwelton Golf club returned Friday from a trip to Nassau with 39 in attendance. The group departed from Chicago on Monday, returning Friday.

APRIL 10,1958 Miss Jeraline Lippincott, daughter of the Mr. and Mrs. Devon Lippincott of Milford, has been selected by class vote to represent Milford in the Mermaid Festival at North Webster in June. Eugene Lange has been selected as the Milford delegate for the Boys State and Robert O’Blenis is the alternate. Mrs. Levi Beer and Mrs. Harlan Beer will be hostesses at a called meeting of the Silver Thimble club Tuesday evening at the Levi Beer home. The annual round-up for preschool children will be held at the elementary school at 9 a.m. CTS Wednesday, April 16. Leon Newman, 28, Ligonier, has rented the Martin Barber Shop in Milford and took over its operation on Tuesday. Milford firemen answered a call to a grass fire shortly after noon Saturday on the Mrs. Irvin Coy residence. Jerry McClintic, Jan Kizer, Richard O’Blenis, Bill Parrett and Stan Doty received badges at the Cub Scout meeting held Monday night. Mrs. Roy Schultz was hostess to her bridge club Tuesday evening at her home. JoEllen McClinnc, daughter of ’Mr. and Mrs. Bruce McClintic, was informed over the week end she was chosen Junior Miss Majorette of America for the month of April. 24 YEARS AGO. APRIL 8,1948 Delilah Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Miller, and Donald Wuthrich, son of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Wuthrich, were united in marriage Saturday afternoon. The Columbia Reading Circle met Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Ted Tobin at Dewart Lake. Several Milford men went to Mishawaka on Monday and brought back twenty loads of cinders from Twin Branch Electric company. Mrs. William Martin will be hostess to the Woman’s Society of Christian Service of the Methodist church Thursday afternoon, April 8. Dick Woiferman SK3 was the guest of honor at a pot luck dinner Sunday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Woiferman. Rev. and Mrs. Alpheus A. Turner were at home to their friends from two until five o’clock Wednesday, April 7, in observance of their 50th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Marie Hursey stated she had accepted a position with medical division of the General Motors Company in Chicago. The Milford Lions club held a regular meeting at the Milford hotel Monday night with about sixty-five members present. The Milford fire department made four calls Saturday, including two grass fires, a truck fire at roads 6 and 15 and an auto fire on road 15 south of Milford. 30 YEARS AGO. APRIL 9,1942 Eighteen members of the Busy Bee club met at the home of Mrs. C. R. Shuder last Friday evening to honor Mrs. Neal Cory and Mrs. William Baumgartner. A son, Terry Wayne, was born April 8 to Mr. and Mrs. C. L. “Kie” Musselman. Members of the local American Legion post pitched in late last week and this week to lay a new hard wood floor in the Legion hall. The Milford high school chemistry class ranked first in the state among the eight-month schools and second in a total of 28 schools taking the Purdue university test. 40 YEARS AGO, APRIL 7,1932 Russel Sechler fractured his collar bone while playing basketball last Wednesday at school. Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Sharp and Judge L. L. Burris returned from Florida last week. A marriage license was issued to Alva Lapp, Union township Ohio, and Barbara Mast, Milford. The Chicago Garment Factory here in Milford has resumed operations due to recent business conditions. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hamilton, returned from California last Sunday after spending the winter there. Miss Dorothea Groves was injured in a fall Sunday morning when returning from services at Grace church. She tripped and fell on the steps, injuring her leg. Cletus Myers, who has been confined to his home for a number of months is rapidly improving. He is able to be up and was out a short period last week. Mrs. Eston Butts injured her hand while washing last week.

The finger was twisted and it sprained the knuckle of the first finger on her right hand. Jimmie and Joan Barnes who recently purchased a snail of Frank Merrick to put in their fish bowl noticed something unusual in their bowl and upon investigation found they have a number of small snails. Alvin Rassi and family of Elkhart spent the week end with John Rassi and family. Milford Man Pleads Guilty Michael Lee Conyer, 21, r 2 Milford, pleaded guilty Thursday, March 30, to a charge of selling marijuana during his arraignment before Judge Allan A. Rasor in Kosciusko superior court. Conyer and wife, Kathleen E. Conyer, 19, were arrested at their home on February 19, 1972 and charged with the sale and possession of marijuana. 4 Conyer was released later on a $5,000 bond and his wife was released on her own recognizance. Bruce M. Frey, deputy prosecutor, dismissed the possession charge against Conyer after he pleaded guilty t* the sale of marijuana charge. Both the sale and possession charges were dismissed against Mrs. Conyer. Judge Rasor accepted the guilty plea and ordered a precommitment investigation with* the date for the sentencing as April 14 at 8:30 a.m. John W. Widaman will be representing the couple. $125 Damage In Two Car Accident Autos operated by Jay Hostetler, 28, r 1 Milford, and Forrest B. Payser, 46, 2425 Wells St., Fort Wayne, collided Friday, March 31, approximately 40 feet north of Market St., on South Buffalo St., Warsaw. Payser was backing his car, into a parking lane on South Buffalo when the Hostetler auto, south bound in the center lane of South Buffalo, hit the Payser auto. Damage was estimated at $lO5 to the Hostetler auto and S2O to the Payser auto.
