ONE YEAR AGO The Wawasee-Area Jaycees are sponsoring an Easter egg hunt this Sunday at the Syracuse city park at the one o’clock hour. Jack B. Wells has been appointed general sales manager of Price-Meyers Corporation, Elkhart. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Newcomer will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on April 18. Mrs. Max Ellen Smith, Miss Ruth Angel and Lucy Wagner are spending the spring vacation in Florida. Mrs. Mary Ellen Biesemeyer of r 1 Warsaw announces the engagement of her daughter, Karen, to Robert 0. Pilcher, son of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Pilcher. Seth Ward is scheduled to receive his 50-year award pin on April 17 at the spring convocation of the Ancient Accpeted Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. Tom Spear has been appointed as varsity basketball coach of Wawasee high school for the 197172 year. Wawasee high receives accreditation to the nation’s largest regional accrediting agency, the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. FIVE YEARS AGO Word was received by Dai H. Arnold this week that the school corporation has been granted a sum of $75,158 as matching funds fa construction of vocational education classrooms in the new Wawasee high school. Bueford Scarbeary, 47, remains critical at Goshen hospital from injuries received after being struck by a car early Saturday morning as he walked in the 400 block of South Huntington street. Paul Moore, vice president of Kinder Manufacturing Co. Elkhart, spoke at the Tuesday Rotary meeting. Mrs. Ella Unrue fell Tuesday afternoon on the sidewalk near Dr. Fosbrink’s office on Main street and sustained a laceration to the back of her head. The Syracuse track team won its first meeting of the season Tuesday by downing Albion 76-42. Births: A son William Mathew, March 29, to Mr. and Mrs. William H. Myers; a son, Charles. March 29, Mr. and Mrs. Hargis Wilson; and a daughter March 28, to Mr. and Mrs. A. Eugene Conder. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis B. Eby will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on April 9. Travis Purdy expects to enter the service as an army chaplain on May 15 having previously been in action in Europe in WWII. A program instigated by the town board will see erection of a new 100,000 gallon water tank to the Syracuse Water Company near the Weatherhead site. Dina Jane Mench has been awarded a state scholarship to Ball State college. Mr. and Mrs. John M. Macy of South Bend and Robert Strieby, Indianapolis, were guests Sunday at the Wales Macy home. Mrs. Clara Stansbury was a guest Thursday through Saturday of her brother, Lawrence Held, in Elkhart. FORTY-FIVE YEARS AGO Natheta Sloan won first place for Syracuse in the local oratorical contest and will participate at Etna Green on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Adam Mollenhour and four children of Elkhart are spending a few days in the Hugh Bushong home. Paul LeCount, Toledo, Ohio, arrived Friday fa a visit with relatives until Sunday. Mrs. Garfield Walker of Indianapolis arrived Thursday to visit until Sunday with parents, the Levi Kitsons, and was accompanied by sister Mary Alice, on vacation from Butler university.
