Cardinal Learning Center Receives Federal Grant
An “Innovative Project Development Grant" has been approved for Cardinal Center. Initial funds have been received to develop a Stimulus-Response program for “Profoundly Retarded" children. The first funding period will end on June 30,1972. The grant was approved by the Title I division of the State Department of Public Instruction. The project was initiated March 1. Nineteen “Custodial Care” children residing at the Alfran nursing home are now receiving services through this expanded program of the Council for the Retarded of Kosciusko County, Inc. The goal of the program is to provide these children the chance to learn basic responses. Through a program of “behavior modification’’ these basic responses will be learned. No one knows what levels of achievement may be attained but, because of this new opportunity, the Cardinal Center administration will be able to record and assimilate data that will help develop a potential program projection for the profoundly mentally retarded. The results of this program will be documented and made
