Successful Farmers Meet With Polks The Leesburg Successful Farmers met March 7. at the Polks. The meeting was called to order by John Clay The American pledge was led by Giles Neer and the 4-H pledge by Kerry Rookslool. Roll call was answered by. “How many years in 4-H work.” Derk Kuhn told about the candy selling project which all clubs in the county are selling in hopes for a new 4-H. building at the fairgrounds. Then) he passed out the candy to each H er persent. A meeting will be held March 28 at Deck’s to turn in the money for candy. A demonstration was given by David Brown on "How to make a 4-H poster." Starter school for first year projects will be held at fairgrounds Saturday, March 11. Refreshments were served by John Clay, Giles Neer and Mike Neer. > Charges Filed At Warsaw Charges were filed against Kenneth McGrevery of Marion in Warsaw city court in connection' with the altercation recently in the parking lot at the youth center in Syracuse at which time Kevin Kemper of Syracuse was allegedly struck about the head with a socket wrench. Kemper sustained numerous head lacerations in the episode. A charge of assault and battery was filed against the Marion resident.

> Ist Infantry * Division Rep. Is Assigned SFC Lloyd Andries Jr., station commander of the United States Army recruiting station for Kosciusko and Whitley counties announced today that Sgt. Joe Metz has been assigned to northern Indiana as a representative of the Ist infantry division. Sgt. Metz, a combat veteran, who served with the Ist infantry division in Viet Nam, will be assisting army recruiters in this area in the interviewing and processing of individuals who are interested in a direct assignment to the Ist infantry division, located at Fort Riley, Kan. Individuals enlisting under this option will receive their basic combat training at one of six different locations of their choice located in the United States. v Upon completion of basic traimng and advanced individual training, they will then be assigned to the Ist divirion, Fort Riley; Kan., for a guaranteed minimum of 16 months. Taking Training In Missiles Lieutenant and Mrs. Bradford P. Bauer left Syracuse last week for California where the former will undergo a two-month training period in missiles at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., following a brief visit in the home of the bride’s parents, the Al Kuszes at South Bend. Bauer, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert J. Bauer of 118 North Lake street, Syracuse, is a graduate of Syracuse higtj school and the University of Notre Dame. Upon completion of the training course, Lt. Bauer will be stationed at Warren Air Force Base. Cheyenne, Wyo. The lieutenant’s brother, Captain Albert J. Bauer and his wife are also stationed at Warren. Beers Celebrate Silver Wedding Day Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Beer, Milford, celebrated their silver wedding anniversary March 9. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Steffen, Rensselear. and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bahler, Wolcott, gave the Beers an anniversary present and entertained them for dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Beer have four children: Kent. Tom, Jan and Tamara.

On Dean's List At Indiana State TERRE HAUTE — Indiana State university has released the dean’s list of honor students for the 1971 fall semester. A total of 978 students received recognition for academic achievement. Included on the list was Robert Bell of Syracuse and Vicki J. Poats of Warsaw. ISU’s dean’s list is based on a 4.0 scale. Students earning a grade point average of 3.76 or above are named to the distinguished honor roll and those with an average of 3.50 to 3.75 are listed on the honor roll. The dean’s list is prepared fastudents carrying 12 or more semester hours of course work for which they receive a grade (pass-fail courses are not computed in the grade point average). Students who were doing supervised teaching during the semester are not included on the list. F’ . American Legion Auxiliary Unit 226 Meets One of the projects discussed by the Ancil Geiger American Legion Auxiliary unit 226 at its regular meeting, March 7 was the legionaires annual birthday dinner which will be held on March 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the legion hall. The meeting was called to order by president Mrs. Noble Fisher and 21 members answered roll call. Items discussed during the meeting were a garage sale and foreign relations month. The foreign relations month in April and the country involved this year is Kenya. This will be discussed at the April meeting and all are asked to attend. Mrs. Dorothy Williams will be the guest speaker for the April meet ng. Refreshments was closed with the singing of the song and hymn of the month. Mrs. Stan Scott auctioned articles after the close of the meeting to help the hospital in Kenya for part of the program.

Friday, March 10, for a cat fire at the intersection of U.S. 6 and Indiana 13 north of Syracuse. When firemen arrived, it was discovered a radiator hose on a car had broken emitting the vapor thought to be from a fire.

Participating In Youth Confab McPHERSON, KAN. - More than 300 high school students from eleven states met March 1012 on die McPherson college campus fa* a regional youth conference entitled “Get Off My Back.” “The conference dealt with the resolution of frustrations and conflicts,” said dean of men, Steve Tuttle, one of the advisors of the conference. Tuttle and Rev. Jim Tomlonson, advisor and leader, planned the conference with the help of 100-130 McPherson college students. Student co-chairmen of the conference were Richard Reents, junior from Wellsburg, lowa, and Rick Tyler, sophomore from Waterloo, lowa. Conference leaders included:

Wayne Montgomery, professor of religion at Kansas Wesleyan college; John Biggs, entertainer and folk-singer, and Rev. Bob Faus, chaplain at Wichita State university. Activities for the week end included a hike, discussion or “buzz” groups, a banquet and a concert. The conference culminated Sunday morning with special church and communion services.
