Pvt. Tobias Completes Training FORT POLK, LA. - Army private first class Richard E. Tobias, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Tobias, 601 S. Madison, Nappanee, completed today nine weeks of advanced individual infantry training at Fort Polk, La. During the course, he received guerrilla training and lived under simulated Viet Nam conditions for five days, fighting off night attacks and conducting raids on enemy villages. He was taught methods of removing booby traps, setting ambushes and avoiding enemy ambushes. Other specialized training* included small unit tactics, map reading, land mine warfare* communications, and firing the M-16 rifle. M-60 machine gun and the 3.5-inch rocket launcher Pvt. Tobias served with Company A. 2D Battalion of the 3D Brigade. The private, whose wife, Eugenia, lives at 2001 N. Walnut, Muncie, is a 1967 graduate of Nappanee high school and received a bachelor of science degree in 1971 from' Ball State university at Muncie. He is a # member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. \ To Receive Piano At Saint Andrews A new piano for the sanctuary of Saint Andrew’s United Methodist church at Syracuse, has been ordered and is expected to arrive this month in time for the Palm* Sunday service. Jehovah Assembly Set For March The Indiana circuit five circuit Assembly of Jehovah’s Witnesses will hold it’s opening session at 6:45 pm. on March 17 at the Lincoln junior high school, r Logansport, and continue through March 19. There will be three days of advanced ministerial training, intensive Bible instruction and Christian fellowship plus visits to homes of local residents to answer questions. To date, 1,800 persons are expected to attend the assembly from North-Central Indiana. Theme to be used is “Conscious of Our Spiritual Need” from Matthew 5:3. Hits Fire Hydrant Approximately 9200 was estimated in an auto accident last Wednesday when Gary L. Mock, 707 Front street, Syracuse, attempted a right turn from Main street onto/Jefferson in Goshen and struck a fire hydrant. Young Mock was driving a 1971 Dodge truck.
