14 YEARS AGO, MARCH 8,1958 Mrs. Lena Hartter’s March 1 birthday will be observed Friday at Foo and Faye’s. Mrs. C. D. Barnes was dismissed from Elkhart hospital Saturday, March 1. Milford Future Farmers Association chapter served as hosts for the Section I FFA contest meeting last night. Milford Adult Farmer class will hear a discussion of the Harvestore glass lined crop storage system Monday evening. Daniel Getz was honored for his 83d birthday by his family on Sunday. Rev. Earl Deeker will be guest speaker at the morning and evening service at the New Salem Church of the Brethren. Milford Trojans won their first game of the tourney against Larwill Wednesday but lost their second game against Warsaw. Miss Garlene Ogle and Gerald Martin were united in marriage on March 1,1958 at the Church of the Brethren at New Paris. The Milford Mail has announced an expansion program and has begun an addition to its physical printing plant. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kizer and son Jan arrived home Saturday from a two week trip to Florida. Glen Treesh was recently proclaimed county corn growing champion at an Indianapolis banquet. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ruch and sons, Craig and Lark, spent the week end visiting relatives at Demotte. 24 YEARS AGO. MARCH 4,1948 Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stookey announce the engagement of their daughter, Patricia, to Gene Hammond. Mrs. Charles Bird’s 16th birthday anniversary was celebrated at a dinner given in the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Augsburger, Sunday, Feb. 29. Because of one of those peculiar calendar calculations, Mrs. Bird at one time went eight years without an actual birthday. Mr. and Mrs. P. D. McFarren announce the engagement of their daughter, Betty Lou, to Worth Jackson at Milford. The Boy Scouts have begun their annual drive for funds. In Milford this is being sponsored by the Lions club with Bill Coy as chairman. Funeral services for Milo Moore, 76, were held Wednesday k at the First Brethren church, of which he was a member. At the meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary Tuesday evening, March 2, it was voted to donate to the Red Cross and the Society for Crippled children. The Women’s Society of Christian Service and the Queen Esther Society will hold a joint meeting Tuesday evening, March 9, at seven o’clock at the Methodist church. The birthday anniversary of Mrs. Mel Lyon was quietly observed Tuesday at the Milford awning shop. David Clem received a notice recently from the Elkhart county draft board that he has been placed in class 1-A and should expect to be called to the army soon. Albert Krull entered the McDonald hospital Sunday after falling from a bale of hay at the Qifford Fleischauer farm. Joseph Closson was called back to the army and is to report at Fort Benjamin Harrison on Saturday, March 14. Miss Irene Shumaker became the bride of A. Cleon Scott Saturday at the home of Rev. Victor Frohle. Fred Kaylor accepted employment Monday at the Kingsbury power plant. Lieutenant Stanley Swartz spent last week with the V. G. Hursey family. 40 YEARS AGO, MARCH 3,1932 Mr. and Mrs. Otto Wiggs are the parents of a baby girl, Myrlain Sue, born Friday morning. Last Thursday afternoon members of the American Legion donned the kakhai uniforms in paying their last tribute to Wilson Sechler. a Civil War veteran. Mr. and Mrs. George Ralston and Miss Maurine Ralston entertained Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Scarlett and Miss Bernice Haab at a six o’clock dinner, Wednesday of last week. Leßoy Sunthimer of Milford and Bessie Barnes of Warsaw surprised their friends here when they announced their marriage which was solemized at Crown Point. Frank Clover has been quite busy the past week redecorating the building formerly occupied by the electric store. Jacob Troup and son Rial Troup and family will vacate the former’s property and will locate on the John DeFries farm in the vicinity of New Salem. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Fisher entertained Sunday for Mr. and Mrs. Marion Dausman and son Earl of Saranac, Mich., Guy Bushong and family of Pierceton. Gerald Bushong and Everett Tom and families and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bushong. Mr. and Mrs. Rusher who purchased the Brumbaugh farm south of Milford have been busy arranging the house and cleaning with the expectation of moving in soon.
