ONE YEAR AGO The Syracuse Public Library is beginning a new program of delivery service to shut-ins and readers of Syracuse and Turkey Creek township who are unable to climb the stairs. Spec, 4 Bob Folger arrived in the states Tuesday from a tour in Germany and is expected to join his wife and new baby later in the week. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Soule have returned to their Syracuse home following a winter stay at Tavares, Fft. The Lakeland seventh grade! wrestling team won first place honors in the four-way tournament Saturday at Warsaw. Mrs. Georgia Buster was installed Monday night as president of the Syracuse WRC. Colleen Coy has been selected as Girls Stater and Penny Wiggs is alternate. The annual Blue and Gold cub scout banquet was held last week at the school. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gunness of Madison. Wis., announce the engagement of their daughter, Sandra Mae, to Don E. Tatman of Syracuse. The engagement of Miss April Lee Schacht is announced by her mother, Mrs. Lenore Schacht of r 4 Syracuse, to Stephan L Kossuth of Vevey, Switzerland FIVE YEARS AGO Fourth ranking Warsaw won the sectional tourney Saturday night by defeating Syracuse, 9150, in the final game. John Wortinger and Dave Wickstrom received the game ball for Syracuse. Paula Isbell, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Isbell, is president and moderator of the Saturday television program. “Wipe Out.” Miss Sharon Gilbert of r 1 was honored at a surprise birthday party Sunday at her home. Michael Brower, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Brower, will be a representative of the boy scouts at the 1967 Youthpower conference in March at Indianapolis. FORTY YEARS AGO A program of economy has been inaugurated by the town board whereby every bill is being scrutinized and every source of expenditure watched. The Phend Dairy of Goshen bought the Stetler milk business in Syracuse on Saturday. A number of chicken thieves were shot at Friday night when stealing hens at the George Sarjents. Miss Christine Rapp was accompanied home from Nappanee Saturday by Miss Alice Nold. Miss Ethel Richards and Mrs, Charles Weybright are leaders of the Richville Home Economics dub. Machines driven by Ernest Richart, 51. Syracuse, and Edward Cripe, 65, Goshen, collided Friday evening in Goshen. Mr. and Mrs Kaleel Juday and children were Sunday evening Cillers in the Ben Zimmerman home. John Hibschman has moved from west of Syracuse to the Good farm and Chauncey Miller moved to Benton this week.

LIGONIER NEWS By Rose Cunningham Concert Set For March 6 The West Noble Musjc Boosters will present their first concert by the high school concert choir and concert band Monday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m., at the West Noble high school auditorium. This concert is the first of a series sponsored by the organization this season and all proceeds will go to the music department. The Jazz Bash group will present a concert on Wednesday, April 5. Sunday, April 23, the junior high band and Tune Butchers will show their talents. Monday, May 1, the high school band and choir will present a second concert and the last in the series will be the spring sing on Wednesday, May 10. Tickets are now on sale by students participating in the programs. Books Presented To Board William D. Cochran, forme* member of the Ligonier Industrial Board, has presented to the board, 33 volumes of clippings, pictures and documents concerning the history of the city of Ligonier. The books are the result of his personal collecting over a period of years. There are 7,000 pages and 10,000 pictures in the volumes. They will be in the custody of the American State Bank for reference to the community. So that the public may view this collection of books there will be an open house in the community room of the bank at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 8.

Dr. Stone Is Guest Speaker Dr. Robert Stone was guest speaker at the Noble Co. Democrat Women’s club held at the Community Room of the American State Bank. He spoke on “emergency treatments.” Hostesses were Mrs. Alverna Maggart, Mrs. peatrice McCormick, Mrs. Kay Patrick and Miss Billie Sheppard. The next meeting will be in Albion on March 21. Dan Reynolds Named Activities Coordinator Dan Reynolds, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Reynolds, r 1, has been named activities coordinator for the student senate at Tri-State college, Angola. Dan is a civil engineering major at the college.

Pace Setters Hold Meeting The Perry Pace Setters Boys 4H club will hold their organizational meeting Monday, Feb. 28, at the junior high school building in Ligonier. The meeting is open to both boys and girls who are interested in the many projects now offered to both rural and urban young people. Visits West Noble School State Representative Ellsworth Peterson was guest speaker at a forum for students at West Noble high school Monday afternoon. Robert Brindle At Fort Riley SPS Robert Brindle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brindle of Barbee Lake, has been stationed at Fort Riley, Kan., after completing a year of duty in Viet Nam.
