FORTY YEARS AGO Mrs. J. W. Agnew and Miss Irene Sprague have returned to Syracuse following a vacation trip. Nathaniel C. Fick has enrolled at Butler university for the second term of the school year, studying chemistry. The state school inspector here Tuesday, approves Syracuse schools. Nellie J. Brown and Floyd Strieby were united in marriage on February 11 by justice of the peace Friebley in Goshen. Gary Robinson may lose the sight in his right eye as a result of a nail striking him in the eyeball while at work. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for Mrs. Sena B. Unrue. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Riddle spent Saturday at the W. E. Moore home. Mr. and Mrs. Loren Markle and family of Gaston were Sunday visitors in the Elmer Calvert home. Mrs. Jacob Stump, mother of Mrs. Guy Ott, is seriously ill at the Wolf Lake hospital. Mrs. Sol Miller and Dick and Martha Ann Thornburg called Saturday on Mrs. Perry Ort in Churubusco. Mrs. John Stout and Mrs. Russell Stout of Akron visited Mrs. Roy Meek, Wednesday. Mrs. Byron Grubb is improving and able to sit up. Manchester Band On Tour Student-faculty audiences in eight Indiana high schools will hear the Manchester college symphonic band during its threeday annual concert tour February 16-18. James A. Carlson, assistant professor of music at the college, will direct the band. The band will play at Prairie Heights high school in LaGrange; Fairfield high school. New Paris; and Wheeler high school in Wheeler; February 16. The North Liberty high school in North Liberty, Roosevelt junior high school, Monticello and Roosevelt junior high school, Monticello, will be visited February 17. Concerts will be given in Delphi high school, Delphi, and Sharpsville high school in Sharpsville on the final day, February 18. Following the tour the band will present its annual formal campus concert Sunday afternoon, Feb. 20. at 3:15 p.m. in the Manchester college auditorium. Jan Swartz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Advisory Committees Being Named Kosciusko county planning commission is setting up advisory committees for every town and township in this county according to county planning director James Baker of North Webster These advisory committees will be composed of five to 15 local citizens who will review land use maps for their respective towns or townships.

Firemen's Auxiliary Considers Course In First Aid The Women’s Auxiliary of North Webster firemen met February 7 with eight present at the fire station. They discussed the possibility of starting a first aid course for interested people in the community and also the annual car splash. Mrs. David Pavne served pie and coffee. —NW—--4-H Club Plans Roller Skating Party Seventeen met at the North Webster school cafeteria for the February meeting of the Wee Webster Workers 4-H club. Sheri Later led the pledge to the U.S. flag in opening. Kay Ferverda led the 4-H pledge. Song leader Carmen Bryant led club members in singing '‘America.’* Roll call response was “Your Favorite Dessert.” (Ice cream was chosen most often.) Minutes from the last meeting were read by Cindy Popenfoose and approved. Kevin Gilbert gave a health and safety lesson on “Go Slow on Ice and Snow.” and a project demonstration on and history of polled Herefords. Roz Long demonstrated the grooming of dairy cattle for showing at a fair. Stuart Bryant led the recreation period; charades were played. Vicki and Kevin Gilbert were in charge of refreshments. A party committee consisting of Kay Ferverda, Mike George, Steve Bryant, Vicki Gilbert and Becky Long have planned a i oiler skating outing for March 21. —NW— February Meeting Os Charm 'N' Chatter Seventeen members and one guest, Mrs. Ralph Aker, met at the home of Mrs. Gilbert Baumlee for the February Charm ‘N’ Chatter meeting. The vice president, Mrs. Robert Ritchie, opened the meeting by leading “America the Beautiful,” the pledge to the U.S. flag and the club creed. Mrs. Marjorie Warner gave a history of and led the song of the month, “He.” Mrs. Howard Locke read I Corinthians 13 and a poem by Wilson McDonald entitled “I Love Old Things” for meditations Diabetes was the topic for the health and safety lesson given by Mrs. Sherman Bryant. Mrs. Harold Anderson gave instructions for planting with the feeding winter birds in mind and for protecting trees from rodent damage in her garden remarks. Mrs. Qifton Sc hang’s citizenship lesson was on a “Solution to Pollution.” Reflection of one's personality and individuality in home decoration were points stressed by Mrs. Preston Gregory in the lesson on “Using Color and Pattern in the Home." During the business session conducted by the vice president, discussion was on a program planning lesson which Mrs. Anderson will attend, the presidents’ council meeting attended by Mrs. James McNabb in lieu of the president and a visit made by the club officers to the Tuesday Afternoon club last month. A letter from area extension agent Ann Hancook was
also read. Mrs. Larry Teghtmeyer and Mrs. Fred Clark, Jr., served as hostesses. —NWJunior Auxiliary Has Valentine Supper Tuesday As the Herbert Kuhn Unit 253 Auxiliary had no January meeting due to much sickness in the community, the February meeting was held on the first of the month. At that time, plans were made for the Junior Auxiliary members’ Valentine supper, which was held February 15. Secret pal gifts were exchanged and identities revealed at the carry-in meal. Three girls have been suggested for Girls' State representative this year. A vote will be taken at the next meeting. —NW— From The Kiwanis News Letter A recent guest of the Lakeland Kiwanis club was John McClure, a member of the Huntington Metro club. Don Arnold, Dave Everts, Fred Mosier, Rev. Lewis Thomas. Peck Wilson and Larry Critchfield visited the Warsaw Kiwanians as an .interclub, February 3. Member Nelson Hunt gave last week’s program on his trip to Frankfort, Germany. —NW— Past Chiefs Meet Recently Nine Past Chiefs met Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Carl Kissinger. Euchre was played with Mrs. Iva Krouse and Mrs. Ermal Vanator winning high and Mrs. Ethel Engle winning low. Mrs. Vanator also won the door prize; she will be hostess for the next meeting. Refreshments of sandwiches, salad and coffee were served. —NW— North Webster Girl On Dean's List Cindy Rinker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Rinker of North Webster, has been included on the first semester dean’s list at Anderson college She is a junior majoring in elementary education.
Lady Lions Meet February 1 Nine Lady Lions met at the Gary Eastlund home, February 1, where they heard a description of “The Art of Embalming.” The club has already begun discussion on Mermaid Festival plans. —NW— Boy Scout News Three boys from Troop 48 camped out on the week end of January 22 and 23. On February 5 and 6, six boys participated in another camp out. The troop also took part in the winter camp out last week end at Pioneer Trails. —NW— Girl Scout News Brownie Troop 63 played various games at its last meeting. Eleven were there. Chris Walgamuth served cookies she had made for refreshments. All 22 girls from Brownie Troop 101 were present to work on Valentine necklaces. Gift coupons to help mothers cook a meal were made. The Brownie pledge was repeated and Lisa Fidler served refreshments. Junior Troop 156 spent last Monday’s meeting planning for its Valentine Banquet and awards ceremony. Melanie Zurcher, Nancy Delp and Sandra Koenigshof furnished refreshments. The troop reports successful cookie sales. Patrol Three opened the meeting of Junior Troop 178. A game of Truth and Dare was played. Under discussion were uses for money made from Girl Scout cookie sales and an ice skating party to be held the 26th of this month. Patrol Four furnished refreshments. A court of honor was also held. Cadet Troop 16 had seven present at a recent meeting. The girls discussed cookie sales. Also noted was a song fest, open to the public, to be held on Girl Scout Sunday in March at Warsaw. Cupcakes were served in honor of Carolyn Gray’s birthday. -NW— Cub Scout News Five boys from Den I were present at their last meeting. They worked on nut cups for the Blue and Gold Banquet. Todd Moerschen furnished refreshments for the meeting. All six scouts from Den II attended their last meeting. Doug Hougey led the flag ceremony. Brian Rosebrough was chosen as the new denner at this meeting and Todd Walls will be the assistant. Greg Gant was in charge of refreshments. The boys will begin working on centerpieces and individual favors for the upcoming banquet. Den 111 had all eight scouts present last Monday. Hie boys reviewed a skit and made invitations for the February 28 banquet. The new denner will be John Locke and the assistant denner will be Brian Bowen. John Weeks furnished refreshments. The five boys from Den IV who met last Monday worked on Valentine plaques Greg Flynn was in charge of refreshments. Cub scouts and Webelos will observe Scout Sunday at the North Webster United Methodist church. February 20. —NW—COMMUNITY NEWS Mrs. Owen (Pat) Burkholder, daughter of Mrs. Elinore Enyeart, underwent major surgery at the Murphy Medical Center, January 31. It was expected that she remain under hospital care at least ten days. Mrs. Floyd (Billie) Hively underwent major surgery at the Murphy Medical Center and after a bout with pneumonia, was released to her home in New Paris Larry Nelson is home on a twoweek furlough from Viet Nam and will leave for South Carolina with his family this week. Larry has been in the service for 20 years. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Nelson. Mrs. Elinore Enyeart spent a week recently with her daughter’s family, the Owen Burkholders, in Warsaw. Thirty-eight machines participated in the snowmobile safari, January 29. To complete the week end, 93 entries from Ohio, Michigan and Indiana were reported for the race held on the 30th. The United Methodist WSCS Lydia Circle did not meet last week due to bad weather. Mrs. Helen Carr underwent major surgery at the Goshen hospital, Thursday. Horticulture Will Be Subject For Wawasee Adult Farmers Wawasee high school vocational agriculture adult class will meet with Aron Schmidt, area extension agent in charge of commercial horticulture, at Wawasee high school on February 21 evening.

America's craziest and most unpredictable sport — Donkey Basketball — will be featured at North Webster school gym, at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22. The teams Will be made up of: PTO men and women against faculty men and women. Diamond K Donkey Ball Co. bring their combination of circus t atmosphere and rodeo thrills to town for the benefit of North Webster PTO. The old saying, “stubborn as a mule,” will be exemplified when the local riders match wits with the donkeys. The odds are that in most cases the donkeys will win. The old rodeo days will be brought to mind when the local Gene Autrys and Roy Rogers take their spills and bounces. There will be plenty of laughs for the entire family during this fun-filled evening. You haven't witnessed basketball until you have seen it played on donkeys. It is really a little different than

That the parking of any'vehicle, on the South side of North Street between Main Street (Indiana State Road 13) and West Street is prohibited-artd forbidden in the Town of North Webster, Kosciusko County, Indiana. Section 2. That any person so parking any vehicle on the South side of North Street between Main Street (Indiana State Road 13) and West Street in the Town of North Webster, Indiana, shall be in violation of this ordinance and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in an amount ot not less that SI.BO nor more than SIB.M. ARTICLE II Section 1. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from ano after its passage and proper publication thereof.
