’CfiJZINjiS 08=10 mW DALE S. PEFFLEY Dale S. Peffley, an "old pro” in the newsgathering business, retired as editor of The Goshen News last week, thus ending a lifetime career with that paper. Dale served on The News for 41 years, including the past 11 years as editor. Reason for retirement include poor health. Dale underwent major surgery at the University of Michigan hospital recently. A pithy writer. Peffley’s editorials and witty editorial short fillers have been reproduced in such prestigeous journals as The Chicago Tribune Among Dale's many avocations fishing is not the least. He has gained a number of friends in the Lakeland area where he has tried his luck with a fly rod on Syracuse Lake in the company of his brother Jay, NIPSCos local representative. We re hoping to 4)f Dale in these parts in the years ahead ; The proposed new Kosciusko county hospital got a good goingover at the breakfast club table at the Syracuse 'Cafe Monday morning, sort of a more free* wheeling rehash of the Lakeland Kiwanis club meeting earlier that morning where Robert Maish, fund-raising bead for KCH. made an appearance. There appears to be very little strong sentiment for the new hospital in Turkey Creek township, much of this lack of enthusiasm based on the fact that local doctors failed to attend two meetings held here to explain the hospital and its financing While Turkey Creek physicians and patrons use the very fine Goshen hospital many local

people were absent during that hospital's fund drive several years ago. Turkey Creek is, after all, a part of Kosciusko county, and there should, be strong support here for the new health facility. No one denies the need fa* a new hospital in Kosciusko county. Placing it in Warsaw, the center of the county, appears to be more the issue than anything else. This is provincial thinking, and should be overcome if Kosciusko county is ever to reach its real potential. LaVada Dean and Sue Williams set up shop at the front table in Bill Huffs case in Pierceton one day last week and sold license plates. LaVada wouldn’t divulge how many plates were sold. Speaking of license plates, if you want to know who’s who in Turkey Creek township, the plates should be an indication. Here are the first 25 plate holders — No. 1, John and Dorothy Augsburger, Milford; 2, Steven Hearn, Syracuse; 3, Robert Insley, Syracuse; 4, Harry VanHemert, Syracuse; 5, Ralph Oyler, Syracuse; 6, Max McCormick, Syracuse; 7. The grapevine says perhaps the old Grace Lutheran church parsonage on Main street may be moved to a location on U.S. 6 northwest of town. New town board member Bud Smith. Mrs. Smith and son Michael were quick to the rescue one day last week. Mrs. Smith spotted a midshipman’s hat at the crash scene and they returned to find young midshipman Jerry Hogan of Warsaw, also en route to the airport, and transported the young man to Fort Wayne. Have you seen the large tax reduction petition tacked to the wall at the bakery in the village? A hidden talent by Dan Dust came to light Monday when a hanging lamp was displayed, a real beauty! Chevy’s Giri Friday Bee Brown is proudly telling friends she will reach the half century mark on Thursday. This writer strongly endorses a light of some type a reflector device be supplied the school crossing guards in the town fa use in the mornings due to the darkness at the hour which children are crossing the streets and glare of oncoming headlights of vehicles. In-spite-of small hand signs carried by the guards, it is frequently quite hard to see many mornings due to weather conditions and we feel this would be quite a help. Mr. and Mrs. Robert L.
