Kitson 165 Scholarship Competition In Final Stage Competition for six college scholarships to be awarded this spring by the Eisenhower Memorial Scholarship Foundation reached the final stage Sunday, when 16 Indiana high school seniors travelled to Indianapolis with hopes of becoming eventual winners of the coveted awards. The runoff in this year’s essay competition started at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Meridian Street United Methodist church, 5500 N. Meridian street Scholarship aspirants appeared before a panel of prominent foundation advisors to give extemporaneous presentations on various topics selected by the panel. The students' qualifying essays were written on the subject “What Should the Role of Government Be in a Society that Safeguards Individual Freedom.’* From this group of 16 finalists, six winners will be selected to receive a scholarship to one of the following Indiana colleges: Anderson college, Marion college, Tri-State college, RoseHulman Institute of Technology, Oakland City college and Taylor university. Scholarship winners will be announced publicly at a special awards ceremony in late March. In addition to the oral competition, Sunday’s program featured a talk by Charles Rice, Professor of Law at Notre Dame and a presentation of the Eisenhower Memorial Scholarship Foundation by Sarkes Tarzian, its national president.
