However, reserve forward Jan Beer played the hero’s part as he connected on four free throws that put the Warriors at the century mark for the first time in the school’s young history. Plymouth was led in the scoring department by junior center, Roger Haech with 24 points. Reserve Dennis Wade’s hits contributed 16 in a losing cause. In the championship game, the Lakers downed Gary Emerson, 68-65, in an interesting battle. Despite Prep’s 7-0 record going into championship [day in the night game, Emerson, a school of 1,500 students, was ruled as a heavy favorite due to size and schedule. Prep jumped off to a first quarter lead, 18-14 gaining advantage during the second quarter play which ended, 35-29. Throughout most of the third period of play, the Lakers maintained a ten-point ad - vantage with Emerson narrowing it to six, 51-45, ending die period. In the final quarter of play, the Norseman with quick action narrowed the lead to one point with six seconds remaining, when Sylvester Allen found Otha Wallace in open play under the basket for the final margin of victory. Wallace led Prep scores with 18-points followed by Allen with 17; Greg Anderson. 14; Frank Hunckler, 10; and Rick Mertz and Terry Bonds rounding with eight and one, respectively. .Allen was a leader in Prep scoring in the afternoon with 28points followed by Hunckler with 14.
