No meeting was held on the 13th due to a conflicting school activity. Five mothers were present as guests. —NW— Cub Scout News Den I is finishing its Christmas projects. The next meeting will be their holiday party. Eight boys from Den 111 met to finish their Christmas projects. Mike Coy led the opening pledge and John Locke furnished refreshments. The boys will now begin working on a skit for January. Dens fl and IV are in the process of completing Christmas gifts. Webelos have finished their Christmas projects and have taken them home. David Dishman celebrated a birthday at the last meeting by bringing cake and punch for the other boys. -NWUnited Methodist Church News Miss Carol Callaway, formerly of Decatur, 81., has been serving as program coordinator for the church for the past three and a half weeks. Miss Callaway is a graduate of the University of Illinois, holds a B.S. degree in home economics and has a sociology minor. She served with the VISTA program at the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Montana for over a year. At present, she resides with a church family. A new membership class will consist of Jennifer Bone, Ginger Gant, Mellissa Shipley, Dawn Bemish, Debbie Martin, Johnny Gansert, Carol Coy and Roxanne Hammaker. The junior high choir will have its first rehearsal Thursday. Johanna Ritchie will direct this choir. The youth of the church will have an overnight retreat December 20. A Christmas Eve service will be held at the church beginning at 10 o’clock. Communion services will be held December 31 from 7-12 p.m. Members spent last Sunday afternoon decorating the church and grounds for the holidays. Christmas trees are in every room, halls are hung with foil decorations, and a large “Christmas card to Christ" stands (or did before the high winds blew it down) in front of the church. The group “God’s Children" will present their Christmas program on Sunday evening at 7:90 in the church sanctuary. The general meeting of the WSCS was held Thursday. Mrs. Wayne Everett was in charge of the program. The decoration committee consisted of Mrs. Ira Nine, Mrs. Ron Moerschen, Mrs. James Greiner and Mrs Jon Dipert. Hostesses were Mrs. D. R. Charm 'N Chatter Christmas Party . Eighteen members and two guests met at the home of Mrs. Howard Locke for the Charm ‘N’ Chatter club’s Christmas party. A salad bar was provided at the beginning of the meeting. Mrs. Clark Fishbaugh, president, called the meeting to order. AU sang the song of the month, “White Christmas.” A short business meeting was followed by a taped recording of Christmas lullabies entitled, “The Tongueless Ones.’’ The recording was played by Mrs. Robert Ritchie for meditations. Gifts were exchanged and new names for "secret pals” were drawn. Mrs. NeUie Henderson was able to attend the club meeting for the first time in nearly a year due to an iUness. This activity was sponsored by the women’s group of the church. The program included group singing, special children’s numbers, a duet by Mrs. Elmo Shock and Mrs. Clarence Mock and three readings given in costumes depicting Mary Joseph and the innkeeper by Mrs. Merlin Cassell. —NW— Past Chiefs Gain Member Eleven members and one guest, Mrs. Franklin Grimes, met at the home of Mrs. George Staples for the Past Chiefs Christmas party. There was a gift exchange and “secret sisters" revealed their identities. Mrs. Roy Spry was welcomed as a new member. At euchre. Mrs. Iva Krouse and Mrs. Ermal Vanator won high and Mrs. Alaroma Greene won the booby prize. Mrs. C. J. Menzie won the door prize. It was decided to send a birthday check to Mrs. Hazel Miller at the Pythian Home, this month. The next meeting will be held with Mrs. Verland Bockman. —NW— Phone Service Interrupted By Accident A United Telephone Company booth was destroyed and telephone lines were torn down when a car driven by 18-year-old Roger Thomas of Pierceton went out of control and struck the booth and two poles. Thomas was southbound on state road 13 near the North Webster junior high school when he lost control of the car. Sustaining minor injuries, the driver was treated at a doctor’s office. The car involved was a total loss. Repairs were made Thursday after the accident to restore telephone service from North Webster to Syracuse. —NW— From The Kiwanis News Letter Rev. Kenneth Smith of the Wabash Kiwanis club was a guest at a recent meeting of the Lakeland Kiwanis club. The program for the meeting was presented by Joe Wilson of Warsaw who showed slides and spoke ot the values of soil conservation.

Legion Auxiliary Prepares For Christmas At the December 7 meeting of the Herbert Kuhn Post 253 Auxiliary, Evelyn Mock presided in place of Mrs. Mervin Wagoner who is visiting a daughter and her family in California. Boxes were packed for service personnel and gifts were collected for the Girls’ School. A monetary gift was sent to the Boys’ School. Gifts will be taken to the Girls’ school on December 19 by Mrs. Elinore Enyeart of the local Unit and Ann Lawson of the Leesburg Unit. The Legion’s annual children’s party will be held upstairs Saturday, Dec. 18 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The Auxiliary Christmas exchange will be Tuesday, Dec. 21. Sack lunches will, be brought. A plant has been sent to Mrs. R. K. Pearson whose father passed away recently. Christmas plants will be sent to Mrs. Maude Angel at the Alfran nursing home and to Mrs. Mai Roberts of Yellow Banks. A district meeting will be held at Walton on January 12. National security reports will be sent to Mrs. Elinore Enyeart by January 5. - NW— Annual Christmas Meeting Held The local WCTU met at the home of Mrs. Mary Fidler, December 7. The annual * Christmas meeting was held. Christmas carols wore sung in opening and devotions were led by Mrs. Clarence Mock. Roil call was answered by a favorite Christmas story or poem. Christmas cards for Mrs. Ernest Snapp of Wabash and Mrs. Ruth Rothenberger, visiting her children in the west, were signed by the members present. Gifts for patients in the Veterans’ hospital in Fort Wayne were collected. The hostess served pie, frozen desserts, coffee, tea, nuts and mints. Mrs. Jesse Lecount will have the next meeting. —NW— Church Os God News The Searchers class had a carry-in supper and party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Lundy on Saturday. A cantata by John Peterson, “The Stay of Christmas” was presented by the sanctuary choir in the Sunday evening service. —NW—COMMUNITY NEWS Joe Roush, formerly of North Webster, visited last Saturday with the Joe Barrett family. Ben Mabie has returned home from the Whitley County hospital. The women’s auxiliary ot North Webster firemen held their carry-in dinner Sunday. Members and guests of the North Webster Lady Lions numbered 34 at the December 7 meeting held at a North Webster restaurant. A salad bar was enjoyed and gifts were exchanged. Guest Speaker At Bethel Church Sunday Orville Sherman, administrator of the Timbercrest Retirement home at North Manchester, will bring the Sunday morning message at the Bethel Church of the Brethren. Timbercrest is a new retirement facility owned by the Church of the Brethren. Mr. Sherman has been the administrator there during its inception and, recently, extensive addition.

Christmas Events At Baptist Church Wawasee Heights Baptist church, Syracuse, has announced the following Christmas programs for this year: Next Sunday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m., the three-act play, "Seeing the Star,” will be presented. The play effectively communicates the true message of Christmas in a unique way that everyone will appreciate and remember. Included in the program wall be a string ensemble composed of Junior high students performing Christmas music. Rodney McCreary, Sunday school superintendent, Wnounces the Sunday school Christmas program for Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 7 p.m. Recitations, special music and a play will canpose the program. A Christmas treat will be given to all who attend. Pastor Bob Mundy and the entire congregation extend a cordial invitation to everyone to attehd these programs. The church is located opposite Wawasee high school. CARS COLLIDE IN GOSHEN Jerry L. Hostetler, 20. r 2 Leesburg, c|river of a 1967 Chevrolet, rammed a 1968 Ford driven by Dorothy A. Bontrager, 40, r 2 Middlebury, at 1:31 p.m. Saturday in Goshen. The Bontrager car had stopped fa traffic when Hostetler hit her from behind. Both cars received S2OO damage from neither driver was hurt. Sgt. Edward Dunithan investigated.
