The Syracuse Junior High Music department will present its annual Christmas Concert on Thursday. Dec 9. at 7:3t) p.m in the new gymnasium The concert will feature the sixth grade band and choir, the junior high band and char, the string orchestra, and the jazz band Beginning the program will be the sixth grade band playing. “Christmas Chimes, Alleulia, and We Three Kings " Next, the junior high band will play “Little Christmas Suite." a group of ancient French. German, and Scottish carols. “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer." and “Timothy the Timpani,” a Christmas story for band, narrator (Ralph Bushong) and Timpani Solo (Marc Fry). This number was written by David S. Black well, the Syracuse Band director, and his wife. The string orchestra will play “O Come Rejoicing." and “Good King Wenceslas." Syracuse. Following this will be the jazz band, which will play two numbers. “Right On." and “Walk Wild.” Final Portion The sixth grade chorus will begin the final portion of the program They will sing "Joy to the World.” and "O Bambina." Both numbers will be accompanied by Ron Mundy, a sixth grade student. The char will also sing “Caroling, Caroling," which will be directed by Larry Diener, a student teacher from Goshen College. The Junior high choir will perform the following numbers: “Christmas Round," “We’ll Dress the House, and O Harken Ye. Carol Os The Bells.” and “Hallelujah. Amen," which was written by G.F. Handel, and is a difficult opera song. The Grand Finale to this year's concert will be "O. Cane, All Ye Faithful." which win be performed by all the junior high groups combined together.

Television The next morning, the junior high choir will appear on television. They will be on “Homemakers Time,” on Channel 22, at 9:00 a.m. The concert is free and the public is invited. Johnson won first place in original oratory and dramatic interpretation classes thus giving the Prep a fourth place sweepstakes trophy. Johnson's dramatic excerpt was “Raisin in the Son” while his original presentation concerned “Progress of Blacks in America." Junior High Honor Rolls Released At Milford And Syracuse This Week

Honor rolls have been released for the second grading period for both the Milford and Syracuse junior high schools. At Syracuse 35 students earned a place on the honor roll. Thirteen of these students earned grades that qualified for the distinguished honor roll. At Milford 15 students earned the right to be listed on the honor roll with nine being placed on the high or distinguished roll. To earn a place on the regular honor roll a student must earn at least one A and the remainder B’s in academic courses and have C’s or better in all elective courses. A student on the distinguished roll may have no more than one B with the remainder of the grades being A in language, math, science, social studies, industrial

Christmas Carol Banquet 'A Hit'

Well over 100 Wawasee high school students participated in the Christmas Carol Banquet at the high school on Monday and Tuesday nights of this week with superb presentations, Centered around Germany and Austria, the event was a complete sell-out with over 500 tickets purchased this year in just a few short days. Held in the school commons, many Christmas decorations were seen with choirs under lights at both ends of the long room. The wide aisle in the middle was used frequently for choirs and dancing. Three-Course In addition, a three-course meal was served to be eaten leisurely during performances. The Mehl Suppe (soup) was delightful followed by Sauer Braten. Kartoffel Puffer (potato cakes) and salad fa* a wellbalanced meal. Course three, dessert of Apfel Kuchen completed the meal to fulfillment. The dessert course was preceded by a number by the concert choir entitled “Fruitcake” with several students, in excellent acting demonstrating on how to make a fruitcake and probably will never be forgotten. number was clever as was the “Wood Choppers Dance” with Gene Lawson and Charles '• Baldwin wielding the axes (and did the chips fly.) Eight charming dancing girls added to this number. An oboe number and several solos were added high lights to the event. The grand finale included lighting of a huge Christmas tree and decorating of the tree plus participation of all in singing of “Silent Night.” This being the first year of a Women’s Choir, a gift of appreciaton was presented Varner Chance, director of the choirs and dancers, as was a lovely bouquet of flowers to Mrs. Chance. Miss Pauline Cork and the string orchestra presented the prelude and other soft numbers (hiring the evening. Many more persons, too numerous to mention, were responsible fa success of the evening.
