Dave Berger, a foreman at the R. R. Donnelley and Sons Company, has been appointed as North Webster’s new clerktreasurer. He will be sworn into office by town attorney Robert Reed in the meeting of January 5. Mrs. Robert Reiff, vicepresident, opened the meeting by leading the group in three Christmas carols. Mrs. William Brown offered an opening prayer. Mrs. Ledru Gray read an article entitled. “Christmas Ball.” Devotions were given by Mrs. Thanas Kerchenfaut and the lesson on “Love and Gifts” was presented by Mrs. Brown. The following officers were installed by Mrs. Russell Mickley and Mrs. Gray: President — Mrs. Robert Reiff Vice-president — Mrs. Raymond Hart Secretary — Mrs. Gray Treasurer — Mrs. Mickley □iristian social relations leader — Mrs. Kerchenfaut Missionary education leader — Mrs. Mahlon Gravenstuck Spiritual growth leader — Mrs. Brown. Buick-Pontiac. Inc. of Warsaw are being considered in relation to the purchase of a 1972 police car. Money has been granted and received for the purchase of communications equipment. Motorola is to receive a boardauthorized payment. The addition of ten street lights in the southern part of town increased the town electric bill S4O. Snowmobile routes will be discussed by representatives from the Lakeland Snowmobile club at the January board meeting, preparatory to the board's approval of various routes and time limits.
Opening ceremonies were conducted by patrol three led by Debbie Valentine and the closing flag ceremony was led by Carol ’ Stombaugh and patrol one. Patrol four, led by Kim Goins, served refreshments of milk, juice and cookies. Patrol two took care of clean-up. Kathy Iden is the leader. Christmas carolling and a party at the church of the Brethren is planned. Several mothers will help with this activity. A camping date has been tentatively set for January 8 and 9 at Singing Hills. Cadet Troop 16 will begin making Christmas gifts after patterns supplied by Miss Janet Vanator at a recent meeting. The girls will have a Christmas slumber party at the home of Mrs. Ledru Gray later this month. Staffs for the new flags have arrived. The following girls officially became Brownie scouts in Brownie Troop 101’s recent investiture ceremony: Chris Bause, Kim Fariss, Amy Coverstone, Annette Currey, Dina Ladd, Annette Metzger, Mary Meyers, Melinda Mock, Tammy Penn. Tami Rash, Lori Richardson, Dianne Stump, Kelly Tschantz, Debbie Wagoner and Teresa Reichard. Sixteen mothers were also present. Adult leader, Mrs. Norman Fariss, and girls already in the troop conducted the ceremony. Mrs. Fariss and Mrs. Jack Rampy served refreshments. At their regular meetings, the girls are working on crafts of paper weights, flower pots with flowers, Santa Claus faces, and papiermache Christmas trees. Den 111 has had a denner and an assistant denner selected. They are Mike Coy and Jay Harreld. David Coy furnished refreshments fa - the nine boys present at a recent meeting. Christmas gifts are being made. Den IV also is working on Christmas projects to give as gifts. Rod Goldy provided refreshments for the six boys at the last meeting. James Goddard has begun working with the boys in Webelos. —NW— From The Kiwanis News Letter A guest at a recent meeting of the Lakeland Kiwanis club was John McClure of Huntington. The program was given by lieutenant governor of the fourth division Bob Peterson of Rochester. New members who have recently been taken in are Jon Roberts and John Moore of Syracuse and Ralph Haynes of Pierceton. Sherman Bryant and Russell Churchill have earned one-year perfect attendance pins. The club will have a ladies night on December 20 at a Nappanee restaurant. —NW— Secrist 65 Has Christmas Party Fourteen attended the Christmas party of the Secrist 65 club, Wednesday. A dinner and gift exchange were held at a restaurant in Middlebury. Mrs. Jerry Badskey won a centerpiece as door and names for new “secret sisters” were drawn for the coming vear. —NW—LOCAL NEWS Wilbur Cooperrider has been in the constant care unit of Whitley County hospital after he suffered a heart attack recently. Special Sunday Service At Brethren Church A special service will be held at the Syracuse Church of the Brethren this Sunday morning, Dec. 12. During the worship hour there will be a formal installation service fa- persons recently elected to the office of deacon and deacoiess. To be installed in this important work of the church are Maxwell and Elnora Simon, Jerry and Carolyn Hapner, and Naomi Baldwin. The Rev. Lester Fike will be in charge of the installation service. He represents the Ministry Commission of the Northern Indiana District of the Church of the Brethren, and will be assisted by Charles Baldwin and the pastor. Since the church has not elected persons to serve in this capacity fa many years, this will be an eventful moment in the life ot this coigregation. The morning worship hour is 10:30 and the public is invited to attend this event.
Tax Regulation Meeting Set For Farmers Farmers of Kosciusko county will have an oppatunity to receive a summary of tax regulation changes at a meeting scheduled for Monday evening, Dec. 20i at 7:30 p.m. at the womens building at the fairgrounds in Warsaw. Ned Kalb, area extension agent fa farm management, will lead the federal income tax discussion according to Don Frantz, Kosciusko extension agent. There will be a general discussion of farm income tax management, a look at some of the changes in depreciation rates, some of which have been made more liberal. The customary problem areas of income tax filing and records will be discussed. The new rulings relating to expenditures for pollution control facilities and the procedure for depreciating them will be included.
