ONE YEAR AGO No one was injured in what authorities termed an armed robbery around 7:44 Monday evening at the E. W. Frauhiger residence at Kale Island. Santa Claus with his bag of treats will be making his annual call at the Syracuse public library this Saturday. New hours will be in effect at the Syracuse License Branch starting December 21 and all reserved license plate fees are due by December 15. Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Higgins of Goshen and Syracuse left last week end for Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., for the winter. Angela Pavy of Merriville has returned to her home following a 10-day visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Butt. The families of Mr. and Mrs. Forest Kern of North Webster joined them for a dinner at' Syracuse on December 4 in observance of the 55th wedding anniversary of the Kerns. Authorities are investigating the theft of several items at the Syracuse Hardware amounting to $50.45. FIVE YEARS AGO Stover Hire has been elected to die marine racing Hall of Fame and will go to New York for an award breakfast. TEN YEARS AGO The Syracuse Horizon club held its first formal initiation November 28 at the Methodist church. The Syracuse Holiday Charity Ball set for December 15 will be the first of its kind in the Syracuse area for quite some time. Charles Searfoss, a lifetime resident of the Syracuse community, has been promoted to the position of personnel manager of The Weatherhead Company at Syracuse according to an announcement from Al Bailey, manager of the Indiana plants, and replaces Harry Ryan. The Wawasee Lakeside chapel will be dedicated December 17. A remonstrance was received by the town board trustees this week against Village annexation to the town with 80 names. Services were held Wednesday in Elkhart for Charles Edgell, 68, a native of Syracuse. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon T. Byler announce the engagement of their daughter.
