Santa Claus Has Come to Town

Brilliant Store Displays Unveiled, Reveal Most Versatile Gifting Choices With a jingle of bells and a jolly “Ho-ho,” Santa Claus has arrived early this year to open the Christmas shopping season. He’s beaming broadly because stores are ready for his arrival — windows bedecked and counters agleam with the brightest selection of holiday gifts assembled in many a year. But he also brings a fatherly warning, gleaned from his years of experience as the best-known gift-giver of all: “Take a look at the calendar. Wrap up your shopping early.” There are only 25 shopping days between Thanksgiving and Christmas and Santa's early arrival has one important purpose. He's here to remind Christmas shoppers that careful

planning and early action w ill make their holiday errands more fun and gift-giving more successful. * The very abundance of gift selections demands considered choice. Early shoppers also avoid the chance of disappointment that comes with depleted stock or late deliveries. Santa recommends browsing first — inspecting the daz-

zling array of gifts before making out your list. Big gifts, especially, need some thoughtful consideration. Jewelry and furs, for instance, should be chosen with loving care. Major, appliances, TV sets, furniture, and automobiles involve delivery problems. Stores are prepared to make special efforts for Christmas deliveries, but you

can help Santa — and yourself —by getting your orders in early. Tomorrow is none too soon to begin. Shoppers can get a good head start by looking over the ideas suggested in this special gift section. In addition to the pictures and stores, ads from leading local stores present the highlights of their holiday gift collections.

Toy Tour Touring Toyland with the kids is a happy, traditional way to kick off the gift shopping season. It seems to put the whole family in the mood for Christmas planning, and the children, of course, get lots of ideas for holiday hints to Santa. Many new toys are geared to help youngsters express themselves creatively, whether they lean toward arts and crafts, homemaking or building skills. Dolls are more varied and active than ever—the newest fashion mannequins have life-like suntans and can dance! Another good family shopping project is the careftil selection of major gifts for the home. These should be chosen early. Often they are inspected by the family in full force. Included in this category are furniture, appliances for the laundry and kitchen, and various types of electronic entertainment equipment. Some gifts, of course, involve private errands — the secret surprises from person to person. An early shopping start helps provide time for slipping away to choose those special gifts. And there are so many special precious items to choose from! Fresh Fashions Holiday fashions for men and women are now at their freshest and best. Don’t forget the youngsters, either — growing children always need clothes. Accessories, accents, aids to good grooming are always appreciated. Some are so attractively packaged, they’ll decorate the bureau or dressing room all year long. And what about fine jewelry, sports and hobby equipment, tools, bicycles and books? Gifts for personal pleasure were never so varied nor so attractive. The early shopper is sure to find something uniquely suitable for every name on his list. Whatever gifts are chosen, the giving is easier this year, thanks to such shopping conveniences as credit plans, charge accounts, layaway programs, and even gift-wrap-ping services. Extra salespeople are also on hand to give the early shopper additional help and advice. It’s all there now in local stores, waiting for you and your holiday gift list. With so much to see and so much to choose from, take Santa's advice and shop early. You’ll have more fun that way——a happier holiday! SOMETHING TO GROW ON Brand new savings account makes a good stocking staffer for Baby. Special accounts can be opened for very small deposits. On birthdays or other special occasions, the giver can add new deposits. After several years, this becomes a substantial gift.
