200 Participate In West
Noble’s First Swap Day
Swap Day at West Noble high school apparently was a huge success. In talking with the administrative personnel, teachers and parents, it seemed to be a very worthwhile day with many expressing their desire for a repeat performance next year. The number of parents and other adults replacing students, is estimated at 200. There are 512 students enrolled at West Noble. It was rather difficult to get an accurate number as some of the adults were going and coming at different times. There were a few problems with the lockers but most parents had been very well briefed by their son or daughter as to the pitfalls that could be encountered during the day. One mother said that she couldn’t help but notice that during the coffee break in the teachers lounge, mothers were talking about how their sons and daughters were trying to get them to stop smoking. (That’s a switch, isn’t it?) One mother of a senior class member said it was a real swapday for her. She is a teacher in the Ligonier nursery school and her daughter took over that class for the day. A father lamented that his son only had a drafting class that day and he had to leave early. All parents contacted seemed to be in favor of the module class schedules that are in operation in the school.
One mother spent a period working on an engine of a truck as this was on the schedule of the young son she was replacing. In Spanish class Mrs. Eugene Paulus had the advantage over other parents as she was a native of a Spanish speaking country. At the dose of the afternoon a pep session was held and four mothers, Mrs. Robert B. Miller, Mrs. George Haines, Mrs. Ed Zimmerman and Mrs. Stone, substitutes for the cheerleaders, took off their shoes and proceeded to lead the yells.
MRS. DURHAM IN HOSPITAL Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Durham is a patient in Lutheran hospital. Fort Wayne, where she is undergoing observation. Good Samaritans Meet On Monday Good Samaritans of the Centenary United Methodist church met Monday evening in the social rooms of the church. During the business meeting, a nominating committee was appointed with election to be held during the December meeting. Mrs. Dale Seagley of Topeka reviewed the book “Strawberry Point.” Hostesses were Mrs. Walter House, Mrs. John Ulrey, Mrs. Forrest Slabaugh and Mrs. Herman Cochran.
Other parents marched in the bands and participated in the singing along with the chorus. The only complaint heard from a parent was the fact that she was tired, both mentally and physically. She thought that she might understand better why her daughter wanted to rest awhile before helping with work at home. On Tuesday the West Noble junior high held its Swap Day with 40 parents attending. They also reported a very enjoyable day.
Jaycee-ettes Elect Officers Mrs. Terry Becker was in charge of the November meeting of the Jaycee-ettes held in the community room of the Ligonier bank Tuesday evening. Hostess for the evening wa§ Mrs. Rae Johnston. The December 17th meeting will be at the Foo and Faye Restaurant, Lake Wawasee, with Mrs. Arnold Perkins as hostess. JIMMY WAGGONER RECUPERATING Jimmy Waggoner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Waggoner, is now recuperating at his home after spending several months in Lutheran hospital, Fort Wayne.
