tajzwjsrg}; Much praise goes this week to the ladies of the Goodwill Extension Homemakers club, and Mrs. Everett Darr and daughter-in-law. Mrs. Ray Darr, for their excellent support in filling a much needed list of Christmas gifts requested for the Fort Wayne state hospital. Many others have selected names, while others interested have selected to buy gifts of their choaing. This type enthusiasm is heartwarming. Long time employee in the clerk’s office at town hall. Lucy Garrett, is now employed at the county court house. Nice to see Jessie (Mrs. Wgde) Zerbe out and about the town once again. Jim and Millie Bandy, vice president and cashier of the Cromwell Stale Bank, respectively, attended the annual American Bankers' Association convention at San Francisco, October 16-26. and were lucky enough to get their picture in the American Banker, a publication of the national organisation that used its October 18th issue to highlight the convention. Mr. and Mrs. Pat Money are soon to move back to Indiana from Alabama where Pat has been managing a Kinder Mfg. Co. plant. He'll still be with Kinder, but will go on another assignment. Grandpa and grandma Earl like the idea, so they can be nearer those wonderful grand children. A new development goiug almost unnoticed is the one owned by Howard Juday and located in a wooded area Just south of Wawasee high school. Drive back there, if you get a chance, and see what’s going on. Ray Nielsen, now divested of his business interests (Dairy ;Queen) and the proud owner of a

self-contained caravan unit, is planning a motor vacation this winter. Asked where he was going, he said, “We’re going to drive out to road 13, and at that point well decide if it’s going to bb north or south.’’ Another fulfilling project will be that of the local legion auxiliary in much needed magaxines of all types, pussies and children's books for the Knightstown Home. Mary (Mrs. Max) Ganshom heads this project for the unit. Crossing guards for the school youth have taken their toll with George Cobb being hospitalised and Merle Laughlin, Sr., under a period of recuperation following a fall from a tree. To the rescue for helpers came George’s wife the fore part of last week until Lawrence Migedt volunteered his services at the Carroll and Huntington street crossing and Forrest Plank for Laughlin at Boston and Huntington. Carroll Koble uniquely cleaned leaves from the sidewalk in front of the Huntington building one day last week — with his power mower. ' What businesswoman in the uptown area and a grandmother to boot, jokingly claims to perhaps being the last person this year to take a quick dip in the lake, fully clothed, this past week end —by accident of course what with temperatures dipping to the low teens!? Anyone who had their radio on last Tuesday night to get election returns from both Milford and Syracuse might have been surprised to hear a direct report on station WKAM. Goshen, direct from the offices of The MailJournal. Nancy Searfoss made a report that went out over the air, giving detailed returns of the Syracuse town election, and Jeri Seely made a similar air report of Milford town returns from The M-J Milford office It’s a service we hope we can repeat in future years for area listeners. Mr. and Mrs. John Moore and children of Elwood are a new area family, living temporarily on Sunrise Beach. Lakeland Kiwanis club members heard an interesting report Monday morning on pollution by a Manchester College professor. A new home going up just north of Tiger Miniature Golf course. This scribe had occasion to meet ABC sportscaster Chris Schenkel again during the past week, and this lime he had Mrs. Schenkel along with him. Chris introduced the young lady simply as Fran, and she was able to carry the conversation from there. A New Jersey native.
Mrs. Schenkel is a bundle of charm, disarmingly friendly, and wants to get acquainted in the Lakeland area very much. She admits to being a home grown gourmet and a collector of recipes from wives of famous people. Colder Door, Inc., holder of the three-way license formerly held by the Pickwick Lounge, is making plans for a new building. Three possible locations are under consideration, we have learned, the Pickwick building not being among them. Reason: Lack of uptown parking. Marilyn Hoisclaw, president of the corporation, is seeking a renewal of the license, and must have it operative before its next renewal period arrives. Fran Jayne has been the busy one during the past 10 days getting her new location ready for her new business. Flowers By Fran. A number of friends have been helping her and offering words of encouragement. If you've been seeing a flood of little yellow smiley buttons, no doubt they came from Augsburger's Food Palace in North Webster. They were giving them out during their grand opening last week. The opening, incidentally, was a huge success. "1 don't know where everyone is coming from," the senior John Augsburger stated at the height of a Friday rush. Gene Berg horn, owner of the Palace of Sweets in North Webster, has been casting an eye about in the uptown Syracuse area for a location for a similar place of business here. A new. but familiar, face is that of Isabelle (Mrs. Richard) Carwile as a clerk at the local dime store. Did you know the current price for a Canadian dollar here is 92 cents? Everett Ketering and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Penick could use some corn! Everett says they are feeding about 100 ducks that congregate on the channel near their homes in Syracuse, and that their corn supply is running short. He also states, that since the duck season has started, the duck population on the channel has doubled. Look for Varner Chance, well known WHS music director, to form his own music group, to be known as "Sounds of Hope, Inc.,’’ to make a 22-day tour of Europe this summer. Chance has been with Social Bands and Choruses of America on European tours for five years, doing a fantastic job. and taking a number of Lakeland youth to Europe on his tours. The new group will rehearse July C, 7. 8 and 9 at Epworth Forest, North Webster, then fly to Amsterdam on July 11. wrapping the tom up with a final
program in the Lakeland area. Reasons for quitting School Bands and Choruses of America: Takes most of the summer and conflicts with Mr. Chance’s choir school work. More on this later. CROP Kick Off Saturday The kick-off dinner for the Kosciusko county CROP drive for 1971 will be held Saturday evening, Nov. 13 at the Shrine building at the Warsaw fairgrounds. Russell Creighton is chairman of the county CROP board. John Metzler, Jr., associate national director for the Christian Rural Overseas program will speak. He has been with the national for the past 10 years and has previously served as a school principal in Puerto Rico. He was one of the organizers of the Church World Service clothing appeal program in Chicago. County and township workers will be guests of the banks of Kosciusko county at the dinner.
