Oid you know there is a oneway sign for the road into Kale Island and perhaps a good thing due to the narrowness. We will be sorry when several of our favorite varieties of fall mushrooms are gone, but with some frozen, plan to enjoy them for some time to come. Interest is running high in the up-coming town election and a notice is being published this week for those desiring to vote an absent ballot, plus qualifications for voting. Lester Lung (Syracuse Lake), retired Goshen chief of city detectives, claims his fishing companion Dick Puschman (Lake Wawasee) had a ‘‘nonsinkable cork” at a recent fishing trip at Butternut Lake. Luck Wise s Lung said Puschman sat patiently in his boat for three days before he saw his cork go under. "Such patience comes only with years of experience,” says Lung. Other campanions in the September 17-26 fishing sorte were Bob Lung and Don Shrock, both of Goshen. Elder Realty will soon have a new home in Wawasee Village. Fred and Emelie Elstrod are

new owners of the Wawasee Village building now occupied by C. S. Myers Motors and Wawasee Motors garage service. Arthur L. Cunningham, r 1 Leesburg and Indianapolis, is the new secretary of the Tippecanoe Lake Protective Association, taking over the responsibilities from George Paton II who has been secretary for 23 years. Arthur and his charming wife Mary have become inveterate fans of northeastern Kosciusko county’s lake region. A unique thing took place in the lakeland area last week as a father and son, both of North Webster, were installed as president-elects for the Kiwanis clubs. Lorin Badskey was installed last Thursday as president elect of Kiwanis International and on Monday, son Jerry was installed president-elect of the Lakeland Kiwanis. Earlier and earlier it seems, the tping and soaping for Halloween starts and a number were caught by authorities in the uptown area during the week end and made to clear their art work. Now the youth fellowship of Calvary United Methodist church south of Syracuse have announced in an ad this week that they will clean the work of toilet tissuing, soaping, wax, etc., but no eggs, for a contribution. Another open house is being planned at Wawasee high school this month during American Education Week and has been designated SWAP day on October 28. Wonder how many parents, grandparents, neighbors, other adult relative, or friend, will SWAP a day at school for a child. Might prove interesting, especially for those not knowing much of the system. Now Seth Ward is wearing red, white and blue suspenders in the George M Cohan Yankee Doodle Dandy manner. Looking for away to exercise? WHS needs people to referee intramural basketball games. And if you need some exercise and have always thought you would do as good a job as “that blind bat” that officiated last week's game, why not give it a try?
Games are generally played on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. There are a few games scheduled for Monday evenings. The only pay is the exercise one gets and the satisfaction of a job well done — or otherwise. Shoes and whistles would be needed. If interested, call 4573147 and leave your name, address and phone. The secretary will forward this information to Jim Alford, Intramural Director. Good luck! Sign seen in a local pub: “If you think food and beer are expensive, did you know cigarettes cost you 68.55 a pound?” Statewide Gold Teen Conference Held The fourth statewide Gold Teen conference for mental health was held recently at Indiana Central college, Indianapolis. The feature-length film, which includes special appearances by Billy Graham, Art Linkletter, and Jack Webb, was described by one reviewer as a “moving film that calls on us to make a decision about how much we want to get involved in the troubles of our times. It is a relevant story that demands our immediate attention. LOST GENERATION will be shown once at 7:30 p.m., with no admission charge. The public is cordially invited.
