. Ministerial Association Sets Services And Elects Officers

Future community worship services were discussed at the Syracuse Ministerial association breakfast meeting held last month at South Shore Golf club with a Thanksgiving Day service being planned, a service of Christian Unity in January and special lenten services on each of the Sunday evenings in March.

Middle School Cheerleaders Are Named At Whitley

Cheerleaders for the South Whitley middle school were selected Friday according to an announcement by Merle Holden, athletic director.

Elected for the eighth grade were Sherri Weaver. Diane Eberhart, Tammy Day, and Sandy Stephens The alternate is Susan Vardaman.

Ronald Kettering Named Chairman Ronald Kettering of personnel and industrial relations at Monsanto Corp., has been named, area chairman of the western division of the Noble County United Fund. The campaign will run October 4 through 28 with the western division asked to raise $14,870.61, or 25 per cent of the $67,482.45 total county goal.

Judge Hagen o Is Speaker At Rotary Roy McAdams was in charge of the program for Monday mornings’ Rotary club breakfast and had as his guest Judge John Hagen who highlighted some of the problems of the present court system. Guests were present from Albion and Syracuse. Next Monday’s meeting will be one of interest to area farmers. Building Committee Plans Program The Charge Conference of the United Methodist church met at the First Church building last Thursday evening and voted to have the nominating and personnel committee of the church appoint a building committee to begin investigation into a building program that might be leasable for the two combined congregations. Mrs. Helene Freeman Word has been received in Ligonier of the death of a former resident, Mrs. Helen B. Freeman of Fort Myers, Fla. Mrs. Freeman is survived by her son Donald H. Freeman, of Ft. Myers Beach, two sisters, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Burial was in Jamestown, Mich. COMMUNITY NEWS There was no school at Perry Centralized School, one mile north of Ligonier, Monday. Children received an extra long week end vacation because of trouble with the water pump. Mr. and Mrs. Don Kellam were called to Saint Petersburg, Fla., Friday because of the sudden death of Mrs. Kellam’s mother. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Freisner, 510 W. Union St., are parents of a new daughter, Katherine Jo. Miss Connie Cory has returned to her home from Lutheran hospital, Fort Wayne. She recently underwent brain surgery. The Eagles Auxiliary members enjoyed an evening-out at the Foo and Faye Restaurant, Lake W’awasee, last Friday evening. Ligonier, now residing at Pleasant Lake, was in town visiting Mrs. Myrtle Zerbe last week. Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Somerset and Alfred Somerset Jr., entertained Mrs. Alfred Somerset, of Lemon Grove, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Schrock left Friday, Oct. 1, for their home in Bradenton, Fla., after spending three weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schrock and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cunningham and their families. They also spent a week in Marshall, Mich. Mrs. Kay Bower of Bradenton spent Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham and returned home with the Schrocks. Thomas Levernier Receives Discharge Thomas Levernier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel C. Levernier of Milford, has received his discharge from the U. S. Army and arrived back in Milford on Tuesday, Sept. 28. Levernier has been stationed in Schwinefurt, Germany for the past 18 months. He and his wife, the former Nancy Barth, are residing in a trailer home south of Milford. Mr. and Mrs. James Stork and son of Milford bought the Waubee Lake home formerly owned by Mr. and Mrs. Dean Troup.

MRS. HOMAN IS HONORED Mrs. Anna Wenger Homan, former Milford woman, observed her 91st birthday on October 1. She is a resident at the Turtle Creek convalescent center in Elkhart. Her four daughters were with her that afternoon and served refreshments. Mrs. Homan received many greeting cards from her many friends.
