Warriors Are 8-0 Homecoming Victors

The scramble, which is expected to attract some 75 professional golfers from the state, is open to the public at no charge. v Byrd participated in the promember tournament at Rosella Ford, Warsaw, Sunday and scored the only under par round of the day shooting a 68. He and Bill Berg from Fort Wayne won the pro-pro with a best ball of 64.

WHS B-Team Rips Fairfield The Warrior B-team at Syracuse rolled past Fairfield 560 on a hot Saturday morning last week at the Warrior field. The entire team played with no less than 10, different boys getting in the scoring column. Rick Brannock opened the scoring with a 15-yard pass to Mark Shearer and the two point conversion was scored by Brannock on a run. In the second period. Brannock again got in the scoring column with a 42-yard punt return. The conversion was scored' by Doug Brown on a run. Later in the second period, Brannock found Mark Smith open for a 26-yard touchdown and the conversion was scored by Mike Wollman. Second Half In the second half. Smith took over at quarterback and Fairfield didn’t get any rest. Smith found Randy Lewallen alone in the end zone for a 20-yard scoring pass and the point after was scored by Shearer. ■> After a safety on Fairfield scored by Chris Stidham assisted by Eric Cobum and a 22-yard run by Bob Bauman. Smith again threw a 26-yard pass to Cobum for a touchdown and 50-0 lead. Doug Hoerr ended the scoring on a 5-yard run to make the 56-0. The Warrior reserves held Fairfield to -58 yards in for the best game of the season. They will have to be tough next week as the Plymouth Rockies come to town, defeating last year’s team 13-7. o ALLEN LEADS — Quarterback Sylvester Allen. 6’ 4” and 185 pounds, Jr., continues to lead the Prep Lakes with two touchdowns and passing for two more. ■ 1 UNEBACKER — Al Emery, senior tight end for the Lakers, caught four passes from Allen, one for a touchdow n and the starting outside linebacker.

DEFENSIVE PLAYERS — Two Wawasee Warriors tied for defensive honors this week with no offensive player being named. The defensive players are Dan Mosier and Mike Vanlaningham. Mosier made six tackles, four assists and two interceptions while Vanlaningham made nine tackles and five assists.

Syracuse Junior High Football Tuesday evening, the Syracuse Yellowjackets played their second game at Wawasee high school and defeated Milford 46-7. In the first quarter, Jerry Yoder ran from the Milford 36 for the first of seven touchdowns. Again in the first quarter. Keith Cripe a seventh grade quarterback passed 26-yards to Dale Ganz. In the second quarter, Dan Walker went 8-yards for the third touchdown. For the extra point catagory, Clem Laser kicked three for five and from the third quarter on, the seventh grade took over and first possession of the ball saw Tim Hamman catch a pass from Larry Allen racing 50-yards for the touch-down. The leading ground gainers were Jerry Y’oder, four carries for 99-yards, and Jeff Miller, six dairies for 63-yards. Yoder had 2 touchdowns and Miller, one. Outstanding defensive play was produced by Nelson Preston who had six individual tackles, and was awarded an S for his helmet. Total yardage for Syracuse passing was 86-yards, rushing was 322-yards. Syracuse Edges North Webster The Syracuse sixth grade football team coached by Tom Stiver and George Vitaniemi edged out North Webster on the Syracuse field last Thursday evening, 6-0. Quarterback Brian Smith marched his team to the six yard line late in the first quarter and scored on a keeper around end. Brian called on his full back Stan Kroh for 11 carries. Halfbacks Jim Glon and. Chris Henning picked up 8 and 4 yards on receptions and end Curt Singrey caught on three trials from Smith for 35 years. The Syracuse defense was able to blank a fine Webster offense Defensive standouts were Rick McKibben. Stan Kroh, Jamie Knisley, Chris Henning, Keith Stevens. Curt Singrey and Jim Willits. Special recognition goes to Lonnie White and Jim Glon with 4 and 6 flag pulls respectively. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stieglitz of r 2 Milford visited their son, George, Sunday who is in the Veterans Administration hospital in Marion.

Syracuse City Golf Tourney Dates Set

The Syracuse city golf tournament has been set for this month and will feature 36 hole play, 18 at Maxwelton Golf-club and' 18 at South Shore. The first round of play is scheduled for this coming Sunday, Oct. 10, with the second round on Sunday, Oct. 17. Deadline for entries is this

Consider Booster Club For Little League At Milford A meeting will be held at the fire station on Thursday, Oct.. 14, at 7:30 p.m. for all parents and boy’s and other interested citizens who are concerned about the improvement of the summer baseball program in the Milford community. . The purpose of this meeting will be to organize a boosters club, discuss present and future goals and develop some mofiey raising activities. Anyone interested is urged to attend and give support to these young boys of the community. FLORIDA VISITORS P AT RARICK HOME Mr. and Mrs. Donald Mock of Kissimmee, Fla., were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dane Rarick of near Milford for 10 days recently. They visited friends and relatives while here. The Mocks had been on an extended vacation in western states. The Mocks and Raricks were supper guests last Thursday evening in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Rarick and family of near New Paris.
