accomplish this, the Lions needed to do only one thing, stop Wawasee's passing attack! Until Friday this might have been very sound strategy. Bremen took the opening kick off and returned the ball to Wawasee's 45 yard line. Unable to move on the first two sets of downs. Bremen elected to invade Wawasee's air space, only to find Wawasee's John, Rhodes waiting for the ball on the 14 yard line. The interception gave the Warriors their first chance of the night offensively. Unfortunately, a fumble on the first hand off gave Bremen possession right on Wawasee's door step, the 14 yard line. Three plays later Bremen's running back Marty Huber, pushed the ball over from the one yard line. The point after attempt was good giving Bremen an early lead 7-4. The early mistake hurt the Warriors as it had in the previous games. Unable to move offensively for any threatening drive, Bremen controlled. Wawasee the rest of quarter one and most of the second Finally with 5:09 left in the second quarter the Warriors found their game, while game momentum did a complete turn about. Kim Cripe was the first to give indication to all present, that the Warriors were out to prove all the critics were offside in their judgment of Wawasee's running attack. The big junior fullback with first and second efforts.

rocked Bremen’s defensive line chi three consecutive runs for 15 big yards. More important than the yards was the inspiration Kim showed in gaining them. The unexplainable thing called desire took command from that moment on. Moving for good yardage the Warriors got a big play from Tim Blue to the eight yard line. With 1:52 remaining in the first half, Pat Spearman powered his way straight ahead for Wawasee's first score of the evening. The run for the extra pomt failed, giving Bremen still a slight edge, only on the score board 7-4. Wawasee's Mike Vanlaningham returned the second half kick off to Wawasee’s 29 yard line. Pat Spearman, behind some fine offensive blocking, moved Wawasee to the 41 yard line and a first down. Kim Cripe crashed Bremen’s line three consecutive times for another first down and it looked as though Wawasee was on its way for the. go ahead TD, but a fumble in the third quarter, with seven minutes remaining cut the drive short. Bremen was denied first down yardage and was forced to punt. Again a costly mistake gave Bremen great field position as the punt was fumbled and recovered big Bremen on the 14 yard line. It was up to the Warrior defense to shine and shine it did! The Warrior defense came up with some outstanding plays to
hold a powerful Bremen running attack on downs. This great defensive stand gave Wawasee’s offense the extra punch it needed for the winning touch down. Wawasee took over on its six yard line 1-10. Kim Cripe ran straight ahead for nine with Pat Spearman picking up the first down on the 20 yard line. Pat again ran right up the middle for eight and on second and two, Tim Blue ran on the keeper for 25 big yards. The Bremen defense stiffened and forced Wawasee into a fourth down and one yard situation. With 36 seconds remaining in the third quarter, Tim Blue called time out and conferred with coach Don Storey. Electing to go for the first down Tim faked a plunge into Bremen’s line and instead handed the ball to Wawasee’s Pat Spearman who outran everyone on the field for a tremendous 36 yard touchdown. The run for the extra points failed but for the first time in the game Wawasee lead 12-7.
The fourth quarter saw Bremen trying desperately to play catch up football. Unable to run against the Warrior’s defense, Bremen was forced to put the ball in the air which was no more effective than the running attack. The game ended much the way it started with John Rhodes again intercepting a Bremen pass on the goal line stopping Bremen’s last desperate attempt to score. The Warriors played a very inspired game as this time it was an outstanding ground attack coupled with a very much improved defense which can’t help but make the future brighter. Congratulations on a very big win!
The Warriors played without the services of Mike Klenke who suffered a concussion in the Goshen game a week ago. We hope to see him back in uniform in the near future.
