14 YEARS AGO. OCT. 3.1957 Milford figured in one of the midwest’s biggest running gun battles with two desperadoes Monday night which led from Ginton, Mich., to a woods near Scottsburg. They killed one Michigan state trooper and wounded another and killed an Indiana state trooper and wounded two. In they eluding, they stole the license plate off of Arch Baumgartner's Buick. Harry Good, owner of Good’s Barber shop, reports that the appointment system for hair cuts has been working out fine. It eliminates waiting for the patrons and hurry for the barbers. ~, Mother s club met Monday evening at the home of Mrs Evar Troup. Mrs. John Connolly assisted as co-hostess. The evening was spent playing cards Mrs. Roy Treesh was hostess to the Merry Jayne club Friday evening at her home There were 15 members present. The Bujy Homemakers club met at the home of Mrs. Richard Hollar Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. Charles Smoker assisting as co-hostess 24 YEARS AGO. OCT. 2.1*47 Miss Annabelle Doty, daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Doty of Milford became the bride of Giver Replogle, son of Mrs. Myrtle Repiogle of Milford and Delbert Replogle of Elkhart on Sunday; Miss Anna L. Hummel, daughter of Mrs Taylor Shively of Leesburg and Clyde D Hunt, son of Mr. and Mrs P. F Hunt of Milford, were married Friday. * Mrs. Maurice Beer submitted to an appendectomy, Monday at the McDonald hospital. Ronnie, four-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Arch Baumgartneir. while playing with little Charles Berkey pile on South Henry street, fell off a cement mixer and suffered a severe gash on his head He was taken to a doctor immediately and nine stitches were taken He is getting along very well.

Mrs. Harry Phend of West Emetine street entertained on Wednesday in honor of her husband’s birthday. The seniors gave a party on Friday evening at Charline Hoover’s home. A. Gertrude Wolferman, M.D., has been visiting her nephew, Earl Wolferman and Mrs. Wolferman. for several days. Dr. Wolferman is a prominent physician at Loa Angeles, Calif. 30 YEARS AGO. OCT. 2, 1M1 Mrs. Sarah Paul, 95, former Milford resident, died last Monday evening at the Epworth hospital in South Bend, of burns she received when the house she resided in on South Main street, South Bend, was gutted by fire. Mrs. Paul was the widow of Dr. James Paul, who practiced medicine in Milford in the building where Fred Walbeser now has his shoe shop The 1942 Fords are to go on display October 3 and 4 at C. S. Myers. A surprise birthday party was given in honor of Hubert Cain at his home last Tuesday evening in celebration of his 25th birthday anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Burris Sharp will attend the Notre Dame-Indiana football game at South Bend next Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Conn of Warsaw were Sunday guests of the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Bucher. Miram Dewart and Miss Ruth Chambers were dinner guests at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Lloyd Dewart. Herbert (Bud) Felkner son of Mr and Mrs. Llovd J. Felkner, has been transferred from Camp Wolters, Tex., to Fort Sam Houston, at San Antonio, Tex. 40 YEARS AGO. OCT. 1,1931 BIRTHS: A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Habegger; Mr. and Mrs. Ike Shively are the parents of a son, Richard; and Mr. and Mrs. John

Moore of Burket are the parents ofason. Mr. and Mrs. Milo Moore of Milford are the grandparents. Guy Lambert informs us that the Van Camp company has loaded and shipped from the Milford yard this fall, 30 cars of cabbage which constitutes only a small portion of the crop in the Milford community. Miss Luella Kenney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Kinney and Harold DeFries, son of Mr. and Mrs. John DeFries, were married at the Lutheran parsonage at Syracuse on Wednesday, Sept. 23. Guy and Ralph Biller, sons of Mr. and Mrs. James Biller of near Milford, appeared on the guest program of WOWO at Fort Wayne on Tuesday. The boys, play a harmonica, guitar and piano accordion. The ten-month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Myers, has been dangerously ill with intestinal flu. She has been running a temperature of 106 degrees at intervals while bordering on pneumonia.
