ONE YEAR AGO Joe A. Thornburg has assumed his duties as of Monday as new deputy marshall on the Syracuse police department. A 1970 Buick 225 Electra stolen last week from the Lewis Fidler residence has been recovered by the sheriff’s department in LaPorte county at Cedar Lake, along with a number of other items believed stolen in recent break-ins in the lake area. Obits: Charles Eugene Hite, 69. formerly of Syracuse; Dr. David Jenkins, 67, husband of the former Virginia Bachman; Charles E. Johnson. 61; and Mrs. Doris Darnell. 54. •_« The Jay Peffleys will return this week from a two-week vacation. Clarence Roach of Kansas, formerly of the Syracuse and Millersburg areas, was in Syracuse Tuesday. Owners of the Wawasee Bowl reported to authorities of a breakin sometime Saturday night or early Sunday morning. • Mr. and Mrs Alonza Searfoss of Hammond and formerly of Syracuse, marked their 50th wedding anniversary in August by repeating their marriage vows in the Hammond First Methodist church. Miss Emily Dick of Cleveland, Ohio, was a recent guest at the Deardorff-Julier cabin in Syracuse Mrs Ray Moore has returned from a vacation in Indianapolis. Guy Warner entered the Saint Joseph hospital. Fort Wayne, Saturday for observation. Mr. and Mrs. James Kirkwood took their daughter Mary Lou to Saint Louis, Mo., in their plane Sunday for her senior year at The Principia. Mr. and Mrs. William Pipp and son returned to Chicago following a three-week vacation in the Betes cottage at Forest Park Mrs. Grace Darr returned home last week, to New York, following a summer stay in the home of Mrs. Wilma Hire. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Klink and Roger returned Monday from a week in Ohio with relatives. Sherry Young Celebrates 11th Birthday Sherry Young, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Young of Milford, celebrated her Uth birthday last week by entertaining a small group of friends at the Milford Fall festival. The girls enjoyed the rides and refreshments at the festival.

Missionaries To Haiti To Be At Mount Tabor Church Rev. and Mrs. James Wallace, returned missionaries on furlough from Haiti will be at the Mount Tabor church for Missionary Night on Thursday evening, Sept. 23, at 7:30 p.m. The Mount Tabor church is located six miles south of Nappanee. Rev. and Mrs. Wallace will be showing pictures and talking about the work at the mission field in Haiti. Rev. and Mrs. Wallace just arrived home from Haiti after serving ten years on the field. They went to Haiti in March 1961 under the Oriental Missionary Society and work at the mission station at Cape Haitian in northern Haiti. Then in 1967 they began the mission work called HELP at Borel Haiti. This was a completely new work and has grown greatly in the last four years. There is now a school of over 600 children, Nurtritional centers started, churches began, vocational training and community project in the area because of this mission work under the leadership of Rev. and Mrs. Wallace. The service will begin at 7:30 p.m and the area and everyone is invited to come and join with the church in hearing of the great mission work in Haiti.
