•:• By TED SEEK HER X $ • Rochester proved to be a very bad host Friday night as the I Zebras gave the their first taste of conference play, which was bitter from the first lick. The first quarter saw Rochester moving fast and furious, with its offensive line hitting straight ahead of Wawasee's much smaller defensive boys. The Warriors defense held their ground until 33 seconds left in the first quarter when Jim Swank, Rochester's outstanding junior halfback, ripped over from two yards out to * make the score 6-0 with the pass for the extra points broken up by § Tim Blue. With the ball on the 11, yard line Wawasee's defense again rose to the occasion and for a slight moment looked as though they had stopped Rochester's TD drive This was soon eliminated on three and 10 situation, Rochester completed its first pass for the first down on its two yard line On the next play Dave Fall‘took the ball in. making the score 12-0 with the point after attempt broken up by Tom Fribley The rest of the quarter saw Wawasee trying unsuccessfully to put an offensive drive together. Time ran out with Rochester leading 12-0. In the third quarter Wawasee came out moving with Tim Blue finding Pat Spearman for 12 yards on a fine pass play Tim connected with Tom Fribley for seven yards A fumble on the next play stopped the drive cold The third quarter ended on a ■ *•
Wawasee on it’s own 5-ya rd line, the Zebras scored on a pass from Paul Johnson to Corky Jones In the third period, neither team threatened, but with 3 minutes left in the game, Rick Brannock returned a Zebra punt 87-yards for a touchdown and a Warrior victory. Bill turned on the speed and outran everybody 65 yards for Wawasee's one and only touchdown of the evening. On the extra point attempt Tim Blue hit Tom Fribley for two more points, making the score 208 In the remaining of the fourth quarter, Rochester’s Jim Swank and teammate Jim Werner accounted for 24 points with the game ending 44-8 in the extremely powerful Rochester’s favor. This Friday Wawasee will play its first home game against another fine football team, the Goshen Redskins. I am hoping everyone will be there to inspire a fine group of young men to victory

OFFENSIVE — This week’s offensive player of the week is Dan Mosier, the offensive center for the Warriors. Dan is reported by coach Don Storey to have done a, “real good job,” against Rochester. Storey added there were no fumbles in passes from the quarterback to the center Friday.
