Mrs. Clarence Burns Mrs. Treva Bums, 64. of North Webster passed away at 9:05 a m. Monday in Goshen hospital of complications following a 10month illness. Bom at Syracuse on October 6, 1906 she was a daughter of Martin and Susan (Rarig) Searfoss, and moved to the North Webster community nine years ago from Auburn. She was united in marriage on October 10, 1939 to Clarence Bums and he survives. Mrs. Bums was employed with Lyle Electric. In addition to the husband, she is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Dallas (Anna Belle) Wente of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Donald (Ruth) Lawrence. North Webster, Mrs. David (Patricia) Kuhn of North Webster, Mrs. Russell (Rose) Hogan. Auburn, and Mrs. Edward (Teresa) Lehman of Homestead. Fla.; one son. Bruce Searfoss of Leesburg; 4 stepdaughters, Mrs. John (Barbara) Pearson of North W’ebster. Mrs. Lucille Riccus, Auburn, Mrs. Harold (Virginia) Poage of Dearborn, Mich., and Mrs. Milton (Donna) Van Patten, Cape Girardeau. Mo.; 2 stepsons. Kenneth Bums of Elkhart and Robert Bums. Fort Wayne; 37 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren. Friends may call after noon Wednesday until time of the service at 1 o’clock Thursday at Harris-Troxel funeral home. North Webster. Rev Paul Schrider will officiate and burial will be in North Webster cemetery. Mock addition Elmer Shoemaker Elmer Shoemaker, 86. Leesburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, at 5:20 a m at Murphy Medical Center. Death was due to complications following an illness of several months. He was bom in Seward Twp., on December 24. 1884, to Joseph W and Diana (Swick) Shoemaker. On July 18. 1908. he married the former Nettie Haines She preceded him in death on December 14. 1917 Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Maggie Hines, Leesburg, two sons, William S. Shoemaker. grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday at a funeral home in Warsaw. Rev. Ralph R. Bums conducted the service and burial was in the Palestine cemetery. Mrs. Fremont Fribley Mrs. Lucy Fribley, 84, of r 1 North W’ebster, died at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Miller’s Merry Manor following an illness of four months. A North Webster resident for the past 14 years, she was a native of Boone county. Mrs. Fribley was bom on February 27, 1887 to Jacob and Mary (Roberts) Wile and was united in marriage on July 26, 1911 to Rev. Fremont Edward Fribley who preceded her in death in 1952. Following the death of her husband, she served for five years as the parish visitor at Trinity United Methodist church at Elkhart. Mrs. Fribley was a member of the North Webster United Methodist church, the WSCS of the church and P.E.O. Survivors include twp sons, W. Earl Fribley of North Webster and Rev. Robert Fribley, Huntington; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren Services were held Saturday with burial in Parks cemetery at Bourbon Everett Isaacson Funeral services were held Saturday morning in Gary with burial at Crown Point for Everett Isaacson. 65, of r 1 Cromwell, Lake Wawasee, the Enchanted Hills section. Mr Isaacson died Wednesday morning at Goshen hospital where he had been a patient for ten weeks, following an illness of seven months. Death was due to complications He was a retired specification clerk with U. S. Steel Co., Gary Bom at Chesterton July 18, 1906, he had resided at Enchanted Hills for the past three and one-half years His parents were Claus and Hilma (Gustafson) Isaacson. Mr. Isaacson was a member of the Cromwell Masonic Blue Lodge and Bethlehem Lutheran church at Gary’. . Survivors* include two sisters. Mrs Ethel Sunderman and Miss Irene Isaacson, both of Enchanted Hills; and a brother, Walter Isaacson of Portage. Virgil G. Barmes Funeral services were held Saturday morning at Elwood for Virgil G. Barmes, 70. of r 3 Syracuse He died unexpectedly of a heart attack last Wednesday at his home A retired employee of Guide Lamp, Inc., Anderson, Mr. Barmes was bom on June 14.1901 at Greenwood to Jesse and Emma Barmes and was a member of the North Webster
United Methodist church. Survivors include his widow, the former Ruth Morris; two sons, Leroy of Elwood and Danny, Lapel; two daughters, Mrs. Norma Scheffer of Greentown and Mrs. Evelyn Smith, Elwood; one brother, Emerson of Indianapolis; 12 grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park at Elwood. Dr. Paul F. Stoller Word has been received here by relatives that Dr. Paul F, Stoller, 57, of Saint Johns Mich., died Saturday, Aug. 28 of a heart attack. He was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Robert Stoller of Goshen. The immediate survivors are a sister, Mrs. Fredrick Bigler of Goshen and a brother Dr. Thomas Stoller of Westville. Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 30, at a funeral home in Saint Johns and he was also buried there. He was a nephew of the late Mathew Weisser. Edward L. Strieby Funeral services were held in August for Edward L. Strieby of Chicago, Well known in the Syracuse community, he was bom on March 19. 1899 and passed away August 19. Burial was at Mount Emblem cemetery there. Howard E. Hummel Funeral services were held Tuesday morning for Howard E. Hummel, 51, of North Harrison street, Syracuse. A crew supervisor for Northern Indiana Public Service company, he passed away at 9:15 p.m. Friday in Saint Joseph hospital at South Bend where he had been taken after becoming ill while at work earlier in the day. An autopsy was performed to determine cause of death. Hummel was first treated at Goshen hospital then transferred to South Bend after complaining of severe leg pains. Bom on January 27, 1920 in Kosciusko county, he was the son of Doris and Ruby (Godshalk) Hummel. A Syracuse resident most of his life, he was united in marriage August 9, 1941 to the former Anna Plank and she survives. Mr. Hummel was a veteran of WW 11, member of the Masonic Lodge 454, Scottish Rite, Valley of Fort Wayne, American Legion post 454, and All Saints Episcopal chapel at Syracuse. In addition to the widow and mother, both of Syracuse, survivors include a daughter, Miss Patricia Hummel of Fort Wayne; and two sisters, Mrs. Robert (June) Lantz of r 2 Syracuse and Charles (Rosemary) Lantz, \|3 South Front street, Syracuse. A masonic service was held Monday night at the funeral home at Syracuse. A graveside military service and burial was held at Leesburg cemetery.
Harry L. Stark Harry L. Stark, 72, of r 1 North Webster, passed away at 4 a.m. Friday at Whitley County hospital following an illness of several years. Death was due to complications. Bom at Enid, Okla., on July 23, 1899, to Virgil and Ona (Jenkins) Stark. Mr. Stark moved to the North Webster community 23 years ago from Fort Wayne. A real estate broker in North Webster and a former justice of the peace, he was united in marriage in 1966 to Marie Schuckel of New Haven. He owned Stark Sound Engineering Co., in Fort Wayne and had been employed at Caphart Corp. Fort Wayne. He was past noble grand of IOOF, no. 14 of Fort Wayne and was a former member of North Webster Lions club. Survivors include the widow; three daughters, Mrs. John (Zepherene) Shod a of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Ernestine Chapman, San Francisco, Calif., and Mrs. Juanita Stark Übelhar, Fort Wayne; three stepsons, William Schuckel of Port Albemi, British Columbia, Gerald Schuckel, New Haven, and Charles Schuckel, Battle Creek, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; four great-grand-children; and one sister. Services were held Monday with burial in North Webster cemetery, Mock addition. Kenneth R. Johnson Funeral services were held this afternoon (Wednesday) for Kenneth R. Johnson, 70, of r 1 Warsaw and brother of Joseph B. Johnson of Oakwood Park, Syracuse. He died Sunday morning in Whitley County hospital at Columbia City. Mr. Johnson was born in Summitville on May 12, 1901 and was married to Maurine Lamb on August 4, 1935, and she survives. A member of Wawasee Heights Baptist church at Syracuse, he was a farmer and school teacher for the Pierceton and Warsaw Community schools, retiring in 1968. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Linda) Amstutz of New Paris and Mrs. David (Brenda) McGlynn, Tippecanoe Lake; two other brothers, Charles of New Castle and Paul, West Lafayette; one sister, Miss Tressia Johnson of Warren; and 10 grandchildren. II [ I BEGIN PHASE 1 EXPANSION — Work began Tuesday morning by the Larry Carey Construction Co. on phase 1 of a two-phase expansion program at The Mail-Journal printing plant at Milford. Phase I includes the removal of a small building, and adding a large wing that will extend north to the sidewalk. The new addition will be used as a job printing department and storage for roll paper. Phase II will include the removal of an old two-story building, shown above, and a large building to tie into the existing structure. This building will be used as a storage for roll paper and additional units to the plants web offset press.
