ONE YEAR AGO A total of 743 participants were on hand Friday through Sunday at the Syracuse city park for the annual Makahiki consisting of sea explorers and camp fire girls of the senior age group. Chief Swimming Turtle, Oliver Godfrey, 73, a Miami Indian, will appear August 29 for an afternoon outing at the scout cabin. Sgt. Tim Connolly has finished his tour of duty in Viet Nam and was scheduled to leave for home cxi Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Markley of Leesburg, Fla., Mrs. Ruth Denlinger of near Dayton, Ohio, Mrs. Mary Miller of Nappanee and Mrs. Mary Williams, Syracuse, spent Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Atlee Miller at Syracuse Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Hubartt and two sons are spending sometime in Florida. Members of the Senior Citizens group plan to take a Dixie boat excursion for their next meeting. Suzanne Louise Long of r 3 will be receiving her MS degree in elementary teaching at exercises this month in Tirey Memorial Union’s Tilson Music Hall. An estimated 2,000 witnessed the second annual Indiana state water ski meet Sunday at Lake Wawasee. Mr. and Mrs. John Swain have moved into the Rogers apartment on Harrison street.
