Lakeland Taxpayers At Tuesday Meeting
A dozen representatives of a Lakeland taxpayers organization appeared at the school board meeting Tuesday night to question board members on the $3,000 appearing in the notice for an additional appropriation for site development at the Milford elementary school. Bill Beemer of Syracuse served as spokesman for the group and stated the group “Desired highly capable instruction with a limit on building costs and operation.” They did not directly oppose the $3,000 for site development but were interested in a clarification as to what the money was to be used for They were told it would be for grading, fencing, removal of old or dangerous trees and an old house located on the property. The school board is in the process of purchasing additional land adjoining the present site of the Milford elementary school. Additional questions were asked on the added cost of construction due to the delay, in some of the current programs until next summer, This, stated school officials, is still unxietermined Asked about plans for a central junior high school in the future the board stated there was none. This decision was made at the time the remodeling programs were started because the people of the corporation wanted to keep

More Options In 1972 Wheat Program Given Participants in the 1972 wheat set-aside program may substitute barley, corn, grain sorghum, or soybeans for wheat and still earn program benefits and protect their wheal allotment history, according to Indiana State ASC farm program chairman, John D. Thompson. Also, there is no limit on wheat acreage. Mr. Thompson pointed out that producers may grow their full allotment, or more than their allotment, and remain within the program. He explained that "set-aside” does nek mean diverting land from production of a specific crop. It means setting aside an acreage from a farm’s total potential crop production. Set-aside acreage for the 1972 wheat program will be equal to 83 pier cent of a farm's domestic wheat allotment, the maximum allowable under the law. This maxium set-aside was established because of the possibility of large grain supplies from this year’s harvest. In 1971 wheat set-aside acreage was 75 pier cent. Details of the program were announced recently by Secretary of Agriculture Clifford M. Hardin * Inclusion of barley and soybeans as substitute crops and the higher setaside percentage are the most notable changes in the 1972 wheat program. “These changes reflect the present possibility of a large wheat harvest in 1971, the need for increased soybean acreage, and the necessity of assuring income protections for the farmer while also maintaining his greater decision-making freedom provided by the Agricultural Act of 1970,” reported Mr. Thompson. The substitution provision will enable a producer to plant all or any combination of his acreage to wheat, feed grain (corn, barley, grain sorghum)' or soybeans Without loss of planting history or program benefits. “The announcement that barley will be included in the feed grain program for 1972, and may be substituted for wheat or viceversa. was made because in some areas fall-planted barley is an alternate crop for wheat,” reported Mr. Thompson. He noted that soybeans will be allowed as a substitute crop in the feed grain program as well as the wheat program. Full details of *the feed grain program will be announced as soon as possible. Several provisions of the 1971 wheat program are unchanged for 1972. The loan rate will remain at $1.25 a bushel, national average — high enough to provide protection of farm income if the market unexpectedly falls, low enough not to determing factor in market prices for wheat. The 19.7-million-acre domestic wheat
$ 2,000 Damages In Early Sunday Arson
Investigation continues into a case of arson early Sunday morning at the Chet Warren home on r 2 Syracuse when a bam at the residence used for storing of lumber, was burned to the ground. The Cromwell fire department was called but unable to save the structure or its contents, valued at $2,000. There was no insurance. The quantity of pre-sawed lumber had been purchased recently in preparation of building a new home, Mrs. Warren said. A neighbor, Mrs. Peyton, said she heard a disturbance in the
allotment for the nation is unchanged from 1971. And farmstored and warehouse-stored loans and purchases will continue to be available to producers participating in the voluntary wheat program. Wheat producers in 1972 also will receive 100 per cent of parity on production of their full domestic allotment, the same as this year, through issuance of wheat certificates. Face value of the certificates will be the difference between 100 per cent of parity on July 1, 1972, and the national average wheat price received by fanners from July through November 1972. As was true this year, participants will receive preliminary payments as soon as possible after July 1 equal to 75 per cent of the estimated face value erf the wheat certificates, with the remainder to
