OBITUARIES
Pierceton Town Marshal Dies Peter Yorg, Sr., 55, Pierceton town marshal, died Thursday in his home at 5:20 p.m., after an illness of five weeks. Death was due to cancer. j ' He was born at Laketon to -Peter and Sarah Ann (Moore) Yorg on January 3, 1916. He married the former Lucille Phillapy on April 6, 1946. She survives. Mr. Yorg was a police officer for 18 years. He moved to Pierceton in 1962 from Silver Lake. He was also a part-time employee of the Wyman funeral home He was a member of the Silver Lake Church of the Brethren; the Whitley County F.0.P.; Indiana Police League; and the National Sheriff's Association. Surviving besides the widow are two daughters, Mrs. Charles Edward Slone, Claypool, Mrs. Raymond (Betty) Slusher, Pierceton; one son, Peter, Jr., a student at Indiana College of Mortuary Science. Indianapolis, one brother, Daniel of Bronx, N.Y.; three half-brothers, Chauncey Rhoades, Wabash. John Rhoades, Rochester, and~ Kenneth Rhoades, Leesburg; two half-sisters, Mrs. Fred (Pauline) Stein. Denver, Ind., Mrs. Frank (Dorothy) Finfrock, Fort Wayne; and four grandchildren Services were held Sunday at the Pierceton United Methodist church with Rev. Leonard Custer, North Manchester, officiating. Burial was in Hi’lcrest cemetery. Mrs. George Bowers Mrs. Hazel Bowers, 63, r 4 Elkhart, passed away Sunday at 11 p.m., in the Elkhart hospital. number of years. Mrs. Bowers was a native of Milford. She was born on February 18, 1908. In 1936, she married George Bowers who survives. Also surviving, are a son, Maynard at home, and her twin brother, Harold Miller of Bristol. Funeral services held today (Wednesday) at a funeral home in Elkhart. Burial was in Prairie Street cemetery. Mrs. Edward W. Whitacre Mrs. Cora Mae Whitacre, 87, r 1 Leesburg, died last Wednesday at 11:05 p.m. after an illness of one and one half years. She was a patient at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw. She was born September 22, 1883 in Noble county to John and Elizabeth (Plew) Sechrist and lived all her life in the North Webster area. In 1898, she was married to Edward Wilson Whitacre. He preceded her in death in 1935. She was a member of the Mock Christian church and was a Gold Star Mother of the North Webster American Legion. Surviving are three sons. John of Ligonier, Walter of Bippus and Eugene of North Webster; eight grandchildren; 21 greatgrandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. f The funeral services were held at the funeral hone in North Webster on Saturday with Rev. Chester Read officiating. Bural was in North Webster cemetery. James Zinsipeister James Zinsmeister, 27, rural Huntington, brother of Mrs. Paul E. (Marie) Steffen, Milford, was killed in a traffic accident last week near Fort Wayne. Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon in Huntington. Hospital Notes CARL DUNCAN IS STEADILY IMPROVING Carl Duncan, president of the Milford town board, is steadily improving ' after suffering a severe heart attack on Thursday, July 22. He has been taken out of the intensive care unit but is still allowed no visitors outside of the immediate family. He is in room 313 at Goshen 2 hospital and would appreciate receiving cards. Adams chapter 278 of Women’s Relief Corps, Syracuse, met Monday night to conclude {dans for the Sunday reception honoring department president Mrs. John Craw of Syracuse. Mrs. Georgia Buster, president, conducted the meeting at which time it was reported invitations have been insued to all department officers and all Corps in the state of Indiana for the Sunday reception on August 8 from 2-5 p.m. in the new Lakeland V.F.W. home south of Syracuse on SR 13. Plans were made for the reception and the following committees appointed: Mrs. Lee Poyser and Mrs. Frank Bates, pouring committee; Mrs. Mabel Walton, guest book; and Zerola Zook, Mrs. Mae Rinker and Mrs. Buster, greeters. Legion Auxiliary Has August Meeting Tuesday The American Legion auxiliary of Milford met August 3 for its regular meeting with Mrs. Noble Fisher presiding. The past presidents will attend a play in Warsaw next Wednesday. The district meeting will be held September 8 at Logansport with installation of district officers. Americanism chairman Mrs. Stanley Scott gave a reading of “This Is Your Flag Speaking.” The ladies were led in unison in the song of the month, “Freedom Isn’t Free.” The social committee for September is Mrs. Raymond Custer, Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Howard Berkeypile and Mrs. Merle Campbell, Jr. Games will be in the charge of Mrs. Herbert Baumgartner and Mrs. Eugene Felkner. Arthur VanAnda Honored On 64th Birthday Monday A group of neighbors and friends surprised Arthur VanAnda of r 1 Syracuse Monday evening to help him celebrate his 64th birthday anniversary. Joe Schrocks Entertain For Hartsough Reunion Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schrock of Syracuse Lake entertained Sunday for the 10th annual reunion of the Norman Hartsough descendents with 55 in attendance. A basket lunch was held at noon followed by a social time including boat rides and swimming. The reunion next year is scheduled for a city in the area. Officers will be Dave Cripe of Cassopolis, Mich., president; Bob Nicolai, Fort Wayne, vice president and Mrs. Milton Shuder, Syracuse, secretarytreasurer.
