U. S. 6 Closed From Indiana 13 To 9 U. S. 6 from Ind. 13 in Elkhart County to the west junction of Ind. 9 north of Albion has been closed for emergency repairs to two pre-stressed bridges. Lee Rush, Fort Wayne District Engineer for the State Highway Commission said the highway was closed July 12 and is not scheduled for re-opening until August 15. Rush said the closing of the road was necessary so that bridges over the Solomon Creek in Elkhart County and the Elkhart River in Noble County could be repaired. According to Rush, the bridges will be torn down, repaired and then reinstalled. Concrete beams in the pre-stressed structures are reportedly weak and in need of repair. Traffic is being re-routed south on Ind. 13 to U. S. 30 and then to Ind. 9 north of Columbia City for routing north to U. S. 6. The detour is 35.6 miles in length, Rush said.
