Midwest State Fairs Set For August

Slate fair time offers outstanding motoring trips for the entire family and the Chicago Motor Club-AAA reminds you that our midwest is great state fair country. For a day, a week end or a week, state fairs can’t be beaten for their variety of action and activities. There’s something for everyone at a state fair. The Illinois state fair, near Springfield. August 13 through 22. features outstanding harness racing each year In fact, the pan-mutual wagering on state fair harness racing pays for the entire operation of the fair — at no cost to taxpayers. Quarter horse races and auto races also highlight the Illinois State Fair Big name entertainment is always part of the fair, and this year is no exception. Wisconsin will hold its state fair in Milwaukee. Every night there will be free grandstand shows featuring the Carpenters, Eddy Arnold, The Osmonds. Roy Rogers. Pearl Bailey, Red Skelton, the sth Dimension. Dinah Shore, Glen Campbell, and the Fairest of the Fairs beauty pageant. Every day you’ll see entertainment by the Kids From Wisconsin, 50. of Wisconsin's finest high school musicians. A unique feature of the Wisconsin fair is tree-shaded Central Park, where day-long entertainment is provided by the

state's best barbershop quartets. Auto races, agriculture exhibits, a breathtaking flower show, parades each afternoon, a judorama. the midway and other attractions round out the fair’s drawing cards. In Indiana In the land of the Hoosiers, from August 19 to August 29. the Indiana state fair in Indianapolis also will feature big name acts, exhibits, and auto and motorcycle races. Part of the reason for extending the fair to 17 days is to provide extra recognition to the youthful exhibitors through the 1971 Michigan state fair youth program. The first five days of the fair will feature expanded youth activities such as a junior horse show and a sweepstakes showmanship contest.
