Rigid Health Rules For Livestock At Fair Urged

The outbreak of diseases in horses in the southwest emphasizes again the importance of rigid health rules when livestock is assembled at Fairs and then returned to farms.

Livestock being exhibited must be accompanied by an official health certificate showing that proper inspections and vaccinations have been made. The primary diseases that are

of concern in the exhibiting of cattle are tuberculosis and brucellosis. Hogs are mostly concerned with the prevention of spread of cholera and brucellosis. The regulations pertaining to

exhibiting of livestock are printed in the Fair catalog. Practicing veterarians represent the state in assisting with compliance. Entries at the Indiana State Fair are due July 31. This will create considerable difficulty in making selection of livestock exhibits as the Kosciusko County Fair will not have started by that

Selection of exhibitors will have to be made by the 4-H Horse and Pony Council based upon achievement in the members project work rather than on show-ring performance. /
