facts about $ ‘OUR TOWN’ Milford, Ind. By JERI SEELY We received the following* letter while we were with friend husband at the Lions International convention in Las Vegas last month. It was written by Mrs. Dorothy Williams, Milford junior high English teacher, and was sent from Ghana where she had spent several years recently. The letter written on June 17 reads as follows: “It’s fun to be back on my old compound for a few days. I'm living i». the home ec. apartments, can come and go to the city on the school bus, and am really enjoying my Ghana friends — native and missionary. “Part of the joy of coming here is the helicopter hop from L. G. airport to Kennedy and also riding on the 747. What a ship! The captain said we were using enough fuel to keep a VW going for 105 years! I wondered how the monster ever got off the ground! I flew to London, then to Paris and on to Africa. “Our school compound has improved, but I wonder about Ghana. Food is sky high — native as well as European type. Very little is on the shelves. “The poor seem poorer and the rich, richer. There is quite a bit of violence here as regards to robbery. Times are difficult for families. “On the happier side — I’m filling up with ripe bananas, fresh pineapple, roasted ground nuts and tasty African food. “Yesterday I went with the director of the Peace Corps, my principal and a language professor from Albany, N. Y., to see the Asanthene, the king of Ashanti. It was an honor. “I plan to fly to Nairobi, Kenya from here. Home in July.” Mrs. Williams has since arrived home. Anyone want a job? I’m about to give mine away. Gosh but it’s hard to get back into the swing of thyigs after being gone for so long. I’m getting to the point where 1 really dislike our sadden summer storms — the one last Sunday

came up so sudden that we didn’t have a chance to make it home (friend husband and I were visiting with neighbors) before the rain and wind came up and it was a little frightening to watch our yard furniture blow here and there in the wind. We were lucky, a however, as little damage resulted. Trees were down all over town again causing some damage and making another big mess!. They’re still talking about the short-circuited burglar alarm at the Milford bank last Wednesday evening. The bank is being femodeled, and somehow water must have short-circuited the alarm. It went off at 10:30 p.m„ causing considerable excitement, but was disconnected by 11:30 p.m. RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP — Jeff A.
