k & iiA vi <jHr MISS JAYCEE — The North Webster Jayeees are sponsoring Debra Ellen Grimm of 1601 Jefferson St.. Rochester, as Miss Jaycee in the coming Queen of Lakes contest. Miss Grimm is a 1971 graduate of Triton high school. Debbie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy N. Grimm. She has blonde hair and blue eyj|. She is 18 years old and stands fMe feet, six inches tall. She weighs 120 pounds. Her hobbies are twirling, cheerleading, singing, modeling, dancing and all sports. She was in the 1970 Miss Indiana Teenager and was in the finals of the Miss America Teenager contest at Palisades. N. J. Also in 1970 she was Miss Majorette of Indiana and the Indiana state twirling champ. In 1969 she was the Kentucky Derby twirling queen and led the Derby parade. She has also led the Madison Regatte parade and the 500 Festival parade. She toured South America as a featured twirler with Mrs. Al G. Wright,'wife of the Purdue band director. Debbie is a straight A student and was in the high school choir, swing choir, marching band of Triton and is a 4-H member. She is now teaching her own twirling group called The Riders. Carefree Mothers Club Meets With Mrs. William Bess The Carefree Mothers club of Milford met in the home of Mrs. William Bess on May 19 at 7:30 p.m The business meeting was brought to order by Mrs. Bess, president of the club. A special welcome was extended to all members and guests present The secretary and treasurer’s reports were given by Mrs. Pat Meek. Plans were made to attend a play in Warsaw in August. Also discussed were plans for a dinner meeting to be held in October. Definite plans will be announced m the near future. The remainder of the evening was spent bidding for bargains in an odds and ends auction. Guests for the evening were Mrs Clifford Wolf of Milford and Mrs Larry Meidiffert of Goshen. The June meeting will be held in the home of Mrs. Don Schlabach of Syracuse on June 16 at 7:30 p.m PLAN JULY WEDDING — Dr. and Mrs. Sam W. Campbell. 901 McCormack Drive. Miss Campbell is a literature teacher at Noblesville Junior high school and her fiance is assistant cashier Wainwright Bank and Trust Company. Noblesville. A July 31 wedding is planned in the First United Methodist church in Noblesville. Guest Speaker Sunday At Church of God Dr. V. 0. Barnhart, conference representative of the Indiana Churches of God. will be the guest speaker in the morning worship service at the Syracuse Church of God Sunday. June 6, at 10:30 a.m. A long time pastor in Indiana and now serving as conference representative. Dr. Barnhart will present the program of the conference with special emphasis on the General Conference which convenes Monday, June 7. at Findlay. Ohio. The morning service will also feature the service of dedication for all those who will be working in the Daily Vacation Bible School. The public is invited to attend.

Auxiliary Has Dinner Meeting The regular May meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary. Wawasee Unit 223, was a dinner party at Foo & Faye’s with Mrs. Max Ganshom and Mrs. Russell Kistler as hostesses. The large table was centered with a pink geranium in a natural colored straw hat and later presented to Mrs. Richard Nolan as a door prize. Following dinner, a brief business meeting was held at which time the president. Mrs. Wallace Huffer, reported 20 United States flags and two Indiana state flags were presented to the Syracuse school from the auxiliary and a number of interested individuals. Mrs Betty Dust reported that 1,250 poppies were sold on May--21-22 and proceeds surpassed all previous records Also, she added. a floral arrangement of around 1.000 poppies and placed on the altar of a local church in memory of the honored dead. The membership chairman reported 133 members at present. The next regular meeting will be on June 22 at the Legion hall. Mr. And Mrs. John Martin Attends Commencement Mr. and Mrs. John Martin, Sr.. Milford, attended the commencement exercises of their grandson. Steve Suttor of Bremen, Friday evening. Steve is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Al Suttor. Those attending from the Milford area were Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Martin, Mr. and Mrs. John Martin, Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wolferman. Guests also included grandparents and friends from Illinois. Week end guests of the senior Martins were Miss Vida Koch and Miss Lydia Brunner, both of Tremont, 111., Viola. Lavina and Gertrude Moser. Fairbury. 111., cousins of the Martins, and Emma Huettie, also of Fairbury who is a relative of the Martins. Sunday evening, they all went for a pontoon ride and enjoyed supper at the Martin’s home. Slides were shown. Monday morning . they went to a restaurant in Plymouth where the out-of-town guests later left to go home. Stephanie And Sam Baumgartner Celebrate Birthdays Stephanie and Sam Baumgartner celebrated their ninth and 12th birthdays with a party Friday, May 28. They are the children of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Baumgartner. Milford. Swimming was enjoyed by all the guests at the Wawasee Pool. Refreshments of pop and popcorn was served afterwards at home. There were 21 friends who helped them celebrate. Transportation to and from the pool was provided by their aunts and uncles. Milford Police Arrest Two For No License Two area men were arrested during the past week by the Milford police for driving without a driver's license Arrested were Ewell L. Bible School Set At Baptist Church Wawasee Heights Baptist church. Syracuse, announces its Vacation Bible School for June 711 from 9:15 - 11:30 a m. There will be classes for ages 4 to 15. Evangelist and Mrs. Joe Day of South Bend, have been engaged to conduct the school this year. Mrs. Day has invested several hundred dollars in special equipment, including gospel magic, to aid her in her Bible school work Bus service to and from the church will be available. Tables were decorated in the spring theme using dogwood, bjrds and butterflies. Mrs. C. J Myers Presents Grange Program Friday A special meeting of the Waubee Grange members designated as men’s and laides’ night featured a potluck supper, with the baked ham prepared by Mrs. Robert Hollar. Invocation was given by Mrs. Richard Heyde, at the tables which were decorated in red, white and blue, in keeping with Memorial Day. The program was given byMrs. Charles Myers of Syracuse, who showed pictures taken while on a trip with the “Revival Fires Tour’’. She was one of the group of 101 persons who visited cities and places in the Holy Land from March 4 to the 18th. Her descriptions and comments were interesting and informative. Tuesday afternoon in the home of Mrs. Ruth DeFries. Graduates Honored At Church of God The Syracuse Church of God honored its graduating seniors in the morning worship service on May 30. The graduates and their families were seated in seats reserved for them and during the service a gift from the church was presented to each. Pastor Walter Burcham’s message was directed to the graduates as was the entire service. High school graduates were Beth Elam. Suzi (Yeager) Smith, Cherri Edgar and Carl Hadley. Jr. Graduating from college were Timothy Yeager from Indiana university and James Frederick from Findlay college, Findlay, Ohio. HONORED FOR BIRTHDAY Mrs. O. P. Ganshorn of Etna Green was honored on her birthday Wednesday evening by her husband and the following friends, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Greenwait, Mrs. Eulah McLaughlin, Mrs. Zola Young. Bourbon; Mr. and Mrs, Woody Slabaugh and Mr. and Mrs. Howard McDonald of Nappanee; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Miller of Milford. BPW Presents >■ Checks To Five Area Students Mrs. John Craw, representing the Business and Professional Women’s club of Syracuse presented Wawasee high school students, who have been accepted to tour with the School Chorus of America, with gift checks. These checks were given to aid local students with their expenses in their tours of Europe and the United States. Receiving one of the gifts is Connie Christner who will be representing Wawasee high school and community as she travels with the School Chorus of America on its European tour during June 27 through July 27. Miss Christner is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rollin Christner. Checks for the American tour are awarded to Rhonda Lawson and Gene Lawson, daughter and son of Mr. and Mr. C. D. Lawson; Kevin Rhoades, son of Mr. and Mrs. F A. Rhoades; and Kathy Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Jones. Jr. The School Chorus and School Band of America are official, non-profit projects of the People to People Music Committee, Inc., Washington. D. C. The organizations are dedicated to the support of American Music Education . and to its positive influence in the area of international relations. The European concerts are scheduled in conjunction with the United States Embassies and the governments of host countries. This year, the European concert tour will include France, Switzerland. Austria, Czechoslovakia. Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, and England. Upon returning home, the School Band and School Chorus of America scheduled to perform in Orchestra Hall in Boston, in Harrisburg. Pa., and the final coheert will be in the Scottish Rite auditorium in Canton, Ohio. the American tour includes three days rehearsal at the State University in Logan. Utah. Concerts will be given in Zion National Park. Grand Canyon. Disneyland, Hollywood Hills, Oakland Auditorium. Reno. Children’s hospital in Salt Lake City, and the final program will be in the Salt Lake City Mormon Tabernacle. Edward T. Harn of Bloomington. 111., is the conductor of the School Band Os America. Varner M. Chance, choral director at-Wawasee high school, directs the School Chorus of America. WEEK END IN OHIO Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hartter, Milford, enjoyed a week end vacation in Ohio. They drove to Columbus, Ohio, Saturday to visit their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Jessop, and two sons. Monday, they visited another daughter, husband. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Troxel, and family at Decatur. Ind.
MISS PI BETA PHI — Pam Welty of Etna Green has been chosen as Miss Pi Beta Phi of the 1971 Queen of Lakes contest. She is sponsored by Pi Beta Phi of Ball State university. Pam is a junior at the university. She was one of the top 10 in 1970 in the BSU homecoming contest and w as one of the top 10 in 1971 in the BSU Miss Best Dressed contest. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Gene Welty of r 1 Etna Green, she is 20 years old and has blonde hair and green eyes. Pam is five feet, four inches tall and weighs 120 pounds. She was a dancer in the home coming variety show in 1970 and in the Theta Xi varsity show in 1971. Pam enjoys outdoor sports and basketball. She is a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and was chairman of the scholarship pledge class. She has an average of 3.075 with a major in elementary education. This is Pam's second year for participating in the Mermaid Festival.
