Former Press Correspondent Dies Mrs. Rachel E. (Morehead) Roush. 73. r 1 North Webster, mother of Joe Morehead of North Webster, and sister of Mrs Ruth Rothenberger and Mrs. Josiah (Mary) Kline, both of North Webster and Mrs Rhoda Mock, r 3 Syracuse, died Saturday morning at her home following an extended illness A native and lifetime resident of the North Webster community, she was born near North Webster on November 15. 1897 to Daniel and Emma (Snoke) Eberly. Her first husband. Stanley Morehead, to whom she was married in 1918. preceded her in death in 1952. She married Joe (Ralph* Roush in August of 1969 and he survives. Mrs Roush was .active in the County Farm Bureau and had been a Pierceton' Press, correspondent, writing the Riverside News for many years She was also active in the local Women s Christian Temperance Union of which she was a past president, and was a housewife Other survivors include three daughters. Mrs. Joe (Betty) Barrett of r 1 Warsaw, Mrs Richard (Mabel) Kistler. Churubusco and Mrs Hpward (Florence) Eastman. Sturgis. daughter, one brother, one sister and grandchild preceded her in death. Services were held Tuesday afternoon and burial was in North Webster cemetery. Amos Bontrager Funeral services were held Monday for Amos M. Bontrager. 55. of r 1 Nappanee and father of Marvin and Dale Bontrager, both of Syracuse. Mr. Bontrager died at 8:20 Friday evening at Goshen hospital where he had been a patient since April 22. He had been in failing health for several years. A native of Lagrange county, he was born on July 5. 1915 and moved to Nappanee three years ago from the Goshen area. He was a farmer, employee of the Corl Corp, at Nappanee and member of the Bethel Mennonite church. On January 22. 1942. he was united in marriage to Mary Slabach and she survives Other survivors include four other sons. Lloyd of Goshen. Calvin. Dowagiac. Mich., and Caryle and James, both at home; a daughter. Janice Ann. at home; four brothers and three sisters Burial was in Bethel church cemetery John W. Yoder John W Yoder. 88. stepfather of Melvin Miller. Milford, died Thursday at 11:45 p m in the home of a son. Henry J. S Yoder, r 3 Nappanee He had been jn ill health for one year. He was born in Marshall county on October 8. 1882 On December 26. 1907. he married his first wife, the former Sarah Miller She passed away on December 11.1942 On December 30. 1943. he married the former Emma Schlabach Miller who

passed away on September 12, 1969. He is survived by four sons; three daughters; six stepsons, including Melvin Miller; three stepdaughters; 36 grandchildren; 67 step-grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren. one brother; one sister; and five halfsisters. Funeral services were held ‘ Monday at a funeral home west of Nappanee. Bishop John Schwartz and Bishop Henry Miller, both Os the Old Order Amish church, officiated. Burial was in Weldy cemetery’. . ° Ralph R. Heeler Funeral services were held Tuesday for Ralph R. Heeter. 61. Liberty Mills and brother of Harold Heeter of North Webster. A lifetime resident of the area, he died unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack Saturday evening at the home of Elbert Basicker. r 2 North Manchester. He was a mechanic at the service center there. Mr. Heeter was born April 9. 1910 at North Manchester to John and Rhuea ( Roberts* Heeter. He was united in marriage on April 21, 1934 to Edna Basicker and she survives. He was a member of the United Church erf Christ Survivors also include two sons, four sisters and one grandchild. Mrs. Emery Drake Funeral services were held on Tuesday at Garden Chapel in Orlando. Fla., for Mrs Emery’ Drake. 49. the former Ruby June Spicher, who passed away on Sunday at Orange Memorial hospital where she had been a patient for several weeks. Mrs. Drake was born June 14, 1921 at Milford, to Earl and Pearl iTusmg) Spicher. On November 12. 1938 she was married to Emery L. Drake, who survives, and lived in Milford and surrounding areas until the family moved to Orlando in 1952. Survivors in addition to the

- husband are two daughters. Mrs. Alex (Cheryle) Lassabe. Orlando and Mrs. Robert (Marlene) Shaw, Atlanta. Ga.; three sons, Roger, Orlando, Rodney, Lakeland. Fla., and Monte at home. There are eight grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Russell, Elkhart, Nelson. Goshen, and Hubert, address unknown; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Mary Ann) Teeple, Leesburg, and Mrs. Violet Humbarr, St. Louis, Mo. The deceased was a member of the Body of Christ and worshipped at Southeast Christian church. South Goldenrod road. Pastor Jess Cook officiated and burial was also in Orlando. Clare E. Knepple Clare E. Knepple, 79. of r 3 Syracuse, passed away at 10:35 p.m. Monday at Parkview Memorial hospital. Fort W’ayne. A Syracuse resident for the past 15 years, he was born at Blair County, Pa., on July 9, 1891 to William and Carolyn (Shaw) Knepple and spent most of his lifetime in the Fort Wayne area. He was retired from General Electric at Fort Wayne in 1956 after 40 years of service. Mr. Knepple was a member of the Saint Andrew’s United Methodist church at Syracuse and a quarter century club member of General Electric. Survivors include the widow, the former Gladys Sherwood; one son. Robert, Fort Wayne; four grandchildren and one greatgrandchild; and one sister. Mrs. Ethel Miller of Hershey. Pa. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the McComb and Sons funeral home, 1140 Lake Avenue. Fort Wayne. Burial will 'be in Greenlawn Memorial Park cemetery at Fort Wayne. r BIRTHS BEER. Kevin Dean Mr. and Mrs Rodney Beer of r 1 Nappanee became the parents of their first child, a son, Kevin Dean, born on April 23 in the Goshen hospital. Kevin Dean weighed in at eight pounds, one ounce. OLD AND NEW — The two men pictured above are the superintendents of the Whitko School Corporation. Keith Y. Carper has served as superintendent since July 21. 1969. He has resigned from that position effective July 1. Carper's letter of resignation was read at Monday's school board meeting and since the board has known for some time of Carper's intended retirement it had received eight applications for the position. “After weighing all factors and discussing at length the. qualities we felt were needed in our corporation,” the board’s release stated, “the board unanimously decided to bring Frank Knight back to Whiko." Knight served two years previously as Whitko superintendent.

Special Education Class Plans Vocational Field Trip Friday

Members of the special education class of the Lakeland schools will tske ’an all-day vocational field trip on Friday. The purpose erf this trip is to give the students the opportunity to visit and to observe some industries that are typical of those in the area. This is not to be a pleasure trip. Bum Old House Near Leesburg Larry Polk, of Polk Farm Center. Leesburg, burned an old two-story- frame house to the ground Tuesday afternoon. The house, located about a mile northeast 'of Leesburg, was formerly occupied by the Polks. Some time ago the interior of the house was gutted by fire, and Polk considered it a hazard.
