programs of formal training.” the sergeant said, “is the Army Service School Enlistment Option. If you qualify, you may select the school you want. This is guaranteed in writing before you enlist. You’ll have your choice of many courses ranging from aviation maintenance to offset press operation. You may apply and qualify for attendance at one of the ArmyService School courses without obligating yourself in any way to enlist. In fact, even with the written guarantee of your choice in hand, you’re still a civilian. If and when you do enlist, you can delay reporting for active duty for 30 to 120 days. It’s important to remember, too, that enlistments in this program are limited. Applicants are selected on a best-qualified, first-come, first-serve basis. For the widest choice of available courses, it would be best to apply as soon as possible.
To enroll in this program, you must be 18 years of age (17 with your parents’ consent) and pass mental, physical and aptitude tests. If you are still in high school, and are in your senior year, you may apply before graduation. If you are accepted, you will not be required to begin active duty until after you graduate. Sgt. Andries also said that the Recruiting Station is now open until 5 p.m., Monday thru Friday, and 8 until 12 on Saturdays, and that high school seniors, should feel free to drop in anytime, even if they are not ready to make a decision, as he and Sgt. Reynolds w-jll be happy to explain the program available, without any obligation. For further information contact Sgt. Andries or Sgt. Reynolds at 524 S. Buffalo. Warsaw.
