Wawasee Track Team Wins Over Northwood
The Wawasee high school track men met the Panthers from North Wood high school last Wednesday evening and came home from the Nappanee area school with a 62-56 victory. School Records Set At Webster Track Meets
North Webster captured both relay races to overcome West Noble 38-51 in a track meet held recently at Ligonier and Dean Burchard broke three school records as North Webster took the Fairfield meet 56-43. Dean Burchard and Garry Valentine were double winners for North Webster in the West Noble meet. (Ike) Tailman. former coach of the Muncie Bearcats when they won the state championship, has been named varsity coach for Warsaw. Tailman, presently coach* at North Putman high school, was named “Coach of the Year" in 1963, He replaces Ralph (Boag) Johnson, who resigned March 5. after 10 years as Warsaw coach. The Tallmans are the parents of three children, Jeffrey, age 11, Deborah, age eight, and Nancy, age five' Mrs. Tailman is presently teaching kindergarten at Russellville Athletic Fund Nets $750 The Syracuse Junior high school candy sale for raising of funds m April for the atheltic fund netted over $750 to purchase equipment All money raised will be used to help buy equipment for the school gymnastic, wrestling and basketball programs. The gymnastic and wrestling programs are being expanded and are in need of additional equipment.

J. V. Golf Team Whips Pierceton By JOHN BAHN The Wawasee Warrior junior varsity golf team met Pierceton last Thursday evening for another Wawasee victory. The final score was 182-192. The junior varsity team is now 5-1. - John Didier of the Warriors was low medalist with 42. Individual scoring follows: Wawasee — Kim Miller 47, Tom Hall 45. John Didier 42, Jeff Wells 53 and Greg Fidler 48. Pierceton — Roger Thomas 47, Pete Kubacki 47. Duane Luetz 56. Steve Wolfe 50 and Scott Langohr 48 Warriors Stopped By East Noble 74 The Wawasee Warrior baseball team was stopped by the East Noble nine last Wednesday evening by a score of 7-4. Wawasee fell in the second inning with East Noble bringing three runs across. Wawasee’s attempts were slow in the third and fourth innings with Elast Noble bringing in four more runs while Wawasee scored one. The last innings promised nothing but failure for the Warriors who managed to score only three more runs — one in the fifth and two in the seventh. LAKELAND LOCAL Angie Augsburger. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Augsburger. Jr., of Waubee Lake, was released from Goshen hospital Saturday. She is still in quarantine and can have no visitors for two weeks.

Rochester Relays Set For Tonight
Wawasee high school’s track team will be participating in the 19th annual Rochester relays to be held at Rochester tonight (Wednesday) after being cancelled last night. The relays will start at 5 p.m. EST with Dutch Thurston serving as starter for this meet. Thurston has indicated he is retiring after the current season. Seven schools will compete in class A this year — Bremen. Knox, North Wood, Peru. Wawasee. W’est Noble and Rochester. Eight schools will compete in * class B (schools under 500) — Akron, Caston. Culver, Mentone. Kewanna, Winamac. Triton and Pierceton. Pierceton and Bremen are the defending champions Nearly 400 athletes will be involved in this meet and ribbons.

WHS Wins Two Victories Over Northfield Nine
The Wawasee Warriors won two victories recently over the Northfield nine. On April 27 the Warriors traveled to Northfield for an 11-6 victory and last Monday they again trounced the boys from Northfield 9-4 on the Warrior’s home field. On April 27 the Warriors belted Northfield in the first three innings as they scored five runs, however. Northfield shot back within the next three innings with five runs. In the seventh inning both teams scored one point to throw the game into an additional two innings. Both teams failed to score in the eighth inning. Wawasee blew the game open in the ninth inning with five additional runs. Heroes of the day were Bruce Cummings who hit a home run and Dale Brown, the, winning pitcher. Monday’s Game On Monday the Warriors played host to Northfield and
medals and trophies will be presented to the athletes and teams during the evening by the Rochester queen and her court. Ribbons and medals go to the first five individuals or teams in each event. The winning team in each relay receives a trophy. Trophies are also presented to the winning and runner-up teams for the night and to the high point athlete in each class for the night. Outstanding athletes seem to be the rule rather than the exception for the meet. However, the highlight of the evening should be in several of the distance runs where last year’s state champion cross country runner Phil Wysong of West Noble will compete. Phil has already set the pace' in the mile and two-mile runs this year in the state. He has run a 4.26 mile this spring.

scored another victory to bring their season’s total to 4-2. Bruce Cummings scored a triple and Dwight Dean hit for a double as the Warriors scored a 94 victory. Wawasee scored four runs in the second inning with all of Northfield's runs coming in the third inning. Dean was the winning pitcher, going all the way. Bozarth was the loosing pitcher. Hits And Misses League Has Banquet The annual banquet of the Hits and Misses mixed bowling league at Syracuse was held Saturday evening in a Syracuse restaurant with approximately 30 in attendance. Out going president Carroll Galloway was in charge of the short business meeting. Mrs. Robert (Jean) Brown, secretarytreasurer, presented trophies and prize money to the following. Brazel’s team — Consisting of Russ and Kate Brazel and Clair and Arlene Mohler. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Baker bowled with this team before moving out of the county. The Indiana State Junior High Bowling Playday was held April 24 at Wawasee bowl south of Syracuse with Syracuse Junior high school G.A.A., sponsored by Mrs. Jerry Ganshorn, hosting ten schools in this event. Friday Bowlers Hold Banquet The Friday Mixed League at Wawasee Bowl held their end of the season banquet Saturday evening with a buffet dinner at a Syracuse establishment with 61 members in attendance. Trophies for the first half of the bowling season went to Thwaits Grain team composed of Jake and Sue Kern and Gloria and Bob Thwaits. Second half trophy winners were Richard and Phyllis Maresh and Lowell and Lori Welty, of the Wawasee T V team. They also received the sponsor’s trophy and championship patches following a roll-off.
