WHS Baseball Players Trample Fairfield 14-1

By JOHN BAHN The Wawasee Warriors baseball team ’defeated the Fairfield Falcons last Thursday evening on the Falcons diamond by a score of 14-1. Homeruns were hit by three Warriors — Donn May, Dwight Dean and John Rhodes. Don Hasse was the winning pitcher for the Warriors He was on the mound for four innings. Mark Thomas totaled one inning on the mound. The next game will be played at Northfield this evening at 4:30. It was postponed Tuesday because of the rain. L ' t Syracuse Beats Fairfield 67-42 Syracuse’s Yellow Jackets came from behind to win their second track meet of the year against Fairfield with a 67-42 score Half way through the meet Syracuse was behind but swept the 220 yard dash and both relays to finish strongly for the win. Syracuse won nine of the 13 first place spots with Chad Singrey winning both the shot put and high jump John Schopf. Brad Cox. Gary Dean and Singrey all placed in three events and ran on a winning relay team. Syracuse also won the B team meet 74-25 and collected 10 of the 12 first place ribbons. Steve Kroh ran an outstanding half mile race and Byron W’olfe won three events, the 60 yard dash, pole vault and 220 yard dash The summary for the A meet follows: Long jump — Delegrange F. Syracuse Junior High Breaks Talma With 73-36 Victory

Syracuse junior high doubled the score on Talma Jn the first track meet of the season for both schools during the past week Syracuse won 10 of 13 first places in piling up 73 points to Talma's 36 Chad Singrey led Syracuse with first places in the shot put and 220 yard dash and a second in the high jump while also running on the winning half mile relay team Gary Dean scored a first in the 100 yard dash, second in the 220. third in the high jump and also ran on the half mile relay team Alan Kitson won the mile in 5 52.1, an excellent time Mike Sheline placed first in the pole vault and half mile run and Jack Schopf won the 60 yard dash and the 440 Results of other events are listed below: Shotput — Singrey S. Elmhurst took first in every event and second in all events except shot put which was won by Kim Cripe. They also captured third place in all events except the pole vault which was taken by Clint Olson, the 440 dash which was taken by Jay Longenecker and the lowhurdles which was taken by Tom Fribley. He was using a six-pound test line and a cane pole at the time. The fish weighed 11 and one quarter pounds and measured 35 and one half inches long.
