It reflects the deep concerns that trouble our world and lives. Yet worry isn't going to improve the world. Its only real value is that it encourages us to seek solutions where they can be found. The best thing to replace worry with is FAITH. , Through the centuries man has found hope and courage in the truths of religion. God never meant us to solve our problems alone. 14 YEARS AGO, MAY 2,1957 Dennis Sharp and Raymond Zimmerman have been named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of the Milford high school senior class, Dennis plans to enter Indiana university and Raymond, Wabash college. Mrs. George Stolz, Girl Scout leader of the Milford troop, reports the girls are very happy with the number of boxes of cookies they were able to sell during their cookie campaign. They sold 650 boxes altogether. Joy Faulkner and Dana Levernier sold the greatest number, 172 boxes. The Waubee Grange met Thursday evening for the regular meeting which was in charge of Ray Bray, Master. A letter was read from the state master asking for places for two foreign adults who would like to come to the United States to study the way of farming to take back to their country. Mrs. Delbert Dippon pleasantly surprised her husband Wednesday evening in honor of his birthday. When he came in from working in the field several of their friends had gathered to wish him a happy birthday. Mrs. Dippon served a birthday cake with ice cream and coffee to Mr. and Mrs. Burris Sharp, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Treesh, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bucher, and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Weiser. The evening was spent socially and playing cards. Services were held in Goshen Monday for Mrs. Chester (Ethel) Brumbaugh. 64, Gravelton, who passed away Friday. She was the mother of Donald Brumbaugh, superintendent of the Milford street department. 24 YEARS AGO, MAY 1,1947 With a tear in our eye and a feeling of hope for better days to come, The Milford Mail this week is seeing the old flat-bed Cincinnati Type Foundry press crumble under the sledge of the junkman. Friday, The Mail installed a smaller, faster newspaper press purchased from the Fortville, Ind., Tribune. The Milford 4-H team, having captured first place in the elimination, will represent Kosciusko county at the district 4-H dairy, poultry, livestock, crops, and demonstration contests, to be held May 1 in the Columbia City school building at 9 a m. Members of the Milford team are Philip Beer, James Stieglitz, and Robert Buhrt, with Arthur Gilbert as alternate. Harold Wilson and Carlton Beer are coaches. The big. expensive German Boxer, owned by Randall Dewart, gave birth to five puppies last Wednesday and was the cause of some concern to its owner. Mr. Dewart said the puppies were sired by Zack von Dom, grand sieger in the 1940 Munich. Germany, dog show. Zack was imported by Clinande Kennels at Glenview, 111. Mr. Dewart said he planned to sell the puppies when they were old enough. 30 YEARS AGO, MAY 1,1941 Due to graduation, the Milford high school chorus of 40 voices, is being depleted by the following students. The Milford band won first division honors in the district band contest held in the First Presbyterian church in Elkhart Saturday morning. The scheduled pieces were “Knightstown” by Coates; “Crusaders” by Buchtel; and “Trapelo” by Fulton. The band will go to Hartford City Saturday to play in the state contest. The Frank Calsi family, residing lor the past several years on a farm south of Milford on old road 15, moved to Chicago Monday after their daughter Julia had completed her school work. The Calsi family will reside on the north side of Chicago. Levi Beer received word from the county draft board Monday that he has been placed in classification 1-A. As yet he has had no physical examination, but thinks he is physically fit and will pass. New carpet was laid this week in the Grace Brethren church which will add greatly its effects to the already improved appearance of the interior of the building. 40 YEARS AGO. APRIL 30,1931 Miss Mary Postma, teacher of the primary department of the Milford school, assisted by her 40 pupils, gave a party Friday afternoon in honor of the new children who will enter school in the fall. Twenty little boys and girls and several mothers were the guests. Games were enjoyed and among the prize winners were Elizabeth Ann Snyder, Waldo Emerson Drudge, Orville Kilmer, and Ethel Fowler. Miss Postma served Eskimo pies and animal crackers to those present. Sharp Hardware Company held the official opening of its store in Warsaw Saturday. During the day they had on display a quaint old reaper which was built by Cyrus McCormick 100 years ago and which was the first great mechanical emancipator for agriculture. In the evening five reels of motion pictures, entitled, “The Romance of the Reaper,” were shown. Several dogs were poisoned last week. “Lady,” a large dog belonging to M. D. Chatten, was poisoned Saturday afternoon and returned home just in time to be saved from death. The dog was given three quarts of milk and Monday was able to be up and around the garage. Noble Myers has been appointed as superintendent of electric lights and power lines in the Milford, Syracuse, and Cromwell districts which are now controlled and operated by the Northern Indiana Public Service Company. Mr. Myers will have offices at Syracuse. 'Everlasting Punishment' Is Sermon "Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.” These words from Psalms are from the Bible Lesson-Sermon on “Everlasting Punishment” to be heard at Christian Science services Sunday. “The likeness of God we lose sight of through sin, which beclouds the spiritual sense of Truth; and we realize this likeness only when we subdue sin and prove man’s heritage, the liberty of the sons of God,” a citation to be read from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy states. SGT. DENNIS GRAFF HOME ON LEAVE Sgt. Dennis Graff and family were recently home on leave from Germany where he was stationed with the, army. They stayed with his sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Henson of Milford. They left April 21 for Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Sgt. Graff is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Graff, Syracuse.
