Don Storey To Be Speaker At West Noble's Junior High Banquet
Donald Storey, varsity football coach at Wawasee high school, will be the guest speaker at the second annual West Noble junior high school athletic banquet. Wednesday, May 12. Storey is a 1963 graduate of Manchester college and later received his M.S. degree from Saint Francis. He had coached Enrique Sanchez Escapes Injury In Saturday Accident A 28 year old driver, Enrique Sanchez. 202 S. Martin St., Ligonier, escaped without injury but completely demolished a bridge near here Saturday morning. Enrique was northbound on county road 750. one mile east of Ligonier, apparently dozed, veered right and struck the southeast corner-support of the steel bridge The car bounced back onto the bridge and Sanchez. car and bridge fell eight feet into the Elkhart river. Damage to the bridge is

Recognized At Goshen College Commencement Mrs. Sue DePew Coy. Miss Retha Mae Yoder and Donald Earl Poyser were among seniors to be recognized at the 73d annual commencement at Goshen college last Sunday. Mrs. Coy. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. L DePew. 404 W. Third St.. Ligonier will complete her B.S. degree in education in August. She is a 1967 graduate of Ligonier high school. Miss Yoder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Galen L. Yoder, of r 3 Ligonier, expects to receive the B.S. degree in nursing. She is a 1967 graduate of Bethany Christian high school. Donald Earl Poyser. of Burket, a graduate of Cromwell high school, expects to receive the degree of bachelor of arts and is majoring in Bible. December and August graduates are recognized at the April ceremonies as well as those who have completed all requirements in April. Rev. Enrigttt Is Speaker Rev. John Enright, a junior at Taylor university, was the speaker at the 11:05 services of the United Methodist church in the Centenary building, corner of Cavin and Miller streets. Rev Enright is the son of Rev. Kenneth Enright, a missionary pilot in the Congo. Africa. The speaker grew up in the Congo and understands the people of the country. He is studying to go back into the Congo as a missionary upon his graduation.

Beta Sigma Phi Celebrates 40th Anniversary Beta Sigma Phi of Ligonier celebrated the 40th anniversary of the organizations founding with a banquet in the Cromwell school cafeteria. Guests included Xi Delta Episolon and Beta Lambda of Kendallville and Alpha Kappa and Xi Delta Xi of Angola. In addition to the banquet, traditional ceremonies were observed. The history erf the local chapters was reviewed and new members received their welcome to the sorority. Toastmistress for the evening was Margaret Ott of Wawaka. president of lota Epsilon Chapter. Ligonier. Others taking part were Mary Lou Holcomb, Kendallville; Joyce Diggins, Kendallville, and Phyllis Bodley. Angola. Linda Patrick of Aville gave a special message from the sorority’s president, received from the international headquarters in Kansas City. Entertainment was furnished by the “Four Seasons,” singing group from Kendallville. Mrs. Amy Wechter of Ligonier served as chairman of the Founders Day banquet. Jerry Myers Promoted Jerry L. Myers. 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Myers, r 2 Ligonier, was recently promoted to army specialist four, in Viet Nam.
Mrs. Lee Holm Hostess For Kappa Sigma Tau Kappa Sigma Tau Sorority met Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Lee Holm with Mrs. Paul Gerke serving as co-hostess. The annual guest night was held with the following guests present: Mrs. George Campbell, Mrs. Robert. Durham. Mrs. Robert Firestone. Mrs. Don Bolsinger and Mrs. Dwight Stoner. Prizes during the social hour were won by Mrs. George Campbell, Mrs. Robert Durham and Mrs. Richard Atz. Mrs. R. Chatfield Heads BPW Club Mrs. Roy Chatfield was dected president of the Ligonier Business and Professional Women at their dinner-meeting Thursday evening at a Ligonier restaurant. Members also voted to contribute to the Girl Scout fund. Elbert Roe was the guest speaker and told of the soil and conservation problems in the area. Burley Miller Services were held in a Ligonier funeral home Saturday, April 22, for Burley Miller, 78, of 608 S. Main St. Mr. Miller died suddenly of a heart attack suffered at the residence. He was born in Ligonier on October 29, 1892 and lived here for many years. He then moved to Detroit where he was manager for the Detroit office of Volvo Co., retired 14 years ago and moved back to Ligonier. He was a member of the Ligonier United Methodist church. South Bend Masonic Lodge No. 294 and Royal Arch chapter of Masons. Survivors include his wife, the former Faye Bordner. They were married in Saint Joe, Mich., on August 6, 1914. A daughter. Kathryn Ruth, of Ligonier, also survives. Rev. David Gosser was in charge of the services and burial was in Oak Park cemetery. Mrs. Ardah J. Douglas Mrs. Ardah June Douglas. 45, 400 S. Martin St., died after an illness of six months of cancer. Friday at 3:00 p.m. in Goshen hospital. She was born April 4. 1926 in Angola and was married to Clarence Douglas on February 14. 1947. They had resided in Angola and Fort Wayne Surviving besides the husband are one son and three daughters. Donald. Mary and Cheryl Ann. all at home and Mrs. John Alfrey, of Ligonier. Also surviving are two grandchildren, her mother. Mrs. Eythel J. Adams, Angola; one brother, Leuvern Keller, Angola; and one sister, Mrs. Gerald Goings. Auburn. Services were conducted Sunday at 1:30 p.m. by Rev. Leonard Phelps, in the Ligonier funeral home and burial was in South Scott cemetery. Angola. MRS. BAKER IS MANAGER Mrs. Hap (Joan) Baker, formerly of North Webster, now residing in Lake City, Fla., has been appointed manager of Columbia Arms apartments in Lake City. The announcement was recently made by the C & M Management company. She will assume her duties starting May 3. The complex contains 52 apartments.
firm Gains At Syracuse Liberty Homes, Inc., manufacturer of mobile homes, reported higher sales and net income for the first quarter ending March 31,1971. Net income totaled $501,927 equal to 17 cents per share compared to $346,923 or 12 cents per share for the first quarter of 1970. Per share earnings are calculated on the basis of three million shares. Sales during the quarter increased to $8,049,947 from $6,151,129 a year earlier. JUNIOR MERRY MAIDENS HOLD APRIL MEETING By CYNTHIA RAPP The Junior Merry Maidens 4-H club met at the Milford fire station on April 13. President Kathy Beer called the meeting to order followed by the American pledge led by Teresa Barth and 4-H pledge by Shelly Dahlstrom. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and approved. New and old business was discussed. The mother and daughter tea was changed from May 11 to May 18. Demonstrations were given by the following girls: Kathy Beer, “Sewing Kit;” Sherry Young. “Styrofoam Flowers;” Jane Hoover, “Quickie Pizza;” Mary Hoover, “Plush Point;” and Kathy Steffen. “Mini-Pizzas.” Annual GCO Banquet Honors Rick Baker The annual GCO banquet was held recently at the Golden Cables restaurant in Lake City, Fla. Dr. Gene C. Nutter, head of golf course operations at Lake City Community college, announced the placement of students who will be doing on the job training this summer. Rick Baker, formerly of North Webster, will be placed at the newly constructed Disney World Golf Course near Orlando, Fla. Rick is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Baker.
