Ketring and wife are standing on the porch with a small girl in a white dress in the center of the picture. Behind the Ketrings is the front door to the cottage. Note the shuttered windows and delicate trim along the porch area The Carl Baldwins of Fascination Place are t&ck in business with their well-known ham station operation. The all new town and antennas were put to work last week after being out of commission since February 22 when the huge ice and wind storm, which hit the area, collapsed the big 80-foot tower and three antennas extending height another 20-foot in the air In July of 1965 the Baldw ins lost their tower and were put out of
commission with the baby tornado which raced the Enchanted Hills division. Many calls to servicemen have gone through the Baldwin station. Help — he said he needed — to put a fish worm on straight. Carroll Lee Koble was in the office one day last week to inform us of the annual church fish fry Coming up and added he was going fishing shortly, with his whole family. Now we know- he isn't planning these fish for the church fry and surely his wife or young sons can bait his hook for him. Grass fires are running rampant, and township trustee Joe Shewmon is doing what he can to call attention to the dangers of a spreading fire. Anyone starting a trash fire is asked to stay close to it until it is
out Two instances of spreading fires were reported in one day last week. Seen; As the town fire truck pulled away from the Easterday residence on South Harrison street last Friday, a youngster who hooked a ride on the truck was seen riding dangerously on the back step. ° One of the nicest remodel Jobs we’ve seen in quite a while is the offices at Wawasee Boat Co. They’re light, roomy, and attractively done. Who did the job? Why, Kinder Realty’, of course. Wawasee Boat is a Kinder concern. We still have some sharp-eyed readers, we’re glad to report. One such is our good friend Harold Gray. We carried a lead editorial several weeks ago stating the telephone was invented 195 years
ago March llj/Nft should have beat 95 yean ago, and Gray caught us up on this one. He writes: “Your editorial on the telephone interests me because I have a hazy recollection of the night back in 1776 when 1 was crossing the Delaware with General Washington and we were discussing the subject of communications and the possibility of improving them. But I really didn’t think the telephone was invented that early.’’ “Seriously,” he continues, “I’m curious. How many people called this mistake to your attention? And if you were to quiz the local high school students on the question of when the telephone was invented, I wonder what answers you would get.” We had very few catch us on this one, thank goodness. This is the danger of copying an item verbatim from another paper. We’ll watch that from now on. Brad Bauer, son of the Al Bauers (118 No. Lake), a senior at Notre Dame, South Bend, has his eye on a career in law. and is thinking about the LU. law school at Indianapolis. Brad, a SHS honor grad, spent the week end with his parents. Weather turned out just right Saturday morning for the Easter egg hunt at the Festival grounds at North Webster. Nearly 300 turned out, according to Fred Rieder, Lions president. Ron Hill was in charge of the Lionssponsored hunt. Diners. in the Kale Island Beacon the last several days who think they're bowling on the second floor are mistaken. They are remodeling for the cozy little nook, as yet unnamed. Now we all like holidays and a little time off from work oc-

casionally. bank employees included but an article in last week’s issue was much to much, saying the State Bank of Syracuse would close it’s doors at one o’clock Friday (being Good Friday) and open Tuesday morning as usual. They did reopen as usual, only on Saturday and Monday also and had we not been working also, would have taken over the answering for them for the < demg>*ef calls received. Sorry about that! S & N Plumbing and Heating moved from their uptown Syracuse offices last week to their new location on the North Shore of Lake Wawasee near Wawasee Prep. Mrs. Waterson informs us this is her former home place and houses nearly two acres of ground. The Watersons’ son, recently discharged from the service, will also make residence there. Friend Seth Ward, when paying a bill last week, graciously bought this writer a birthday luncheon for which we were grateful. consider a loan of the article? Due to the numerous fire calls for grass fires during the past week because of dry weather, the county commissioners office is asking enforcement of a county fire ordinance which was adopted in April of 1970, forbiding the burning of trash, leaves,, etc., during the dry seasons of the year. A heavy fine can be assessed to those in violation of the ordinance. And then the rains came. At the time of this writing, it looks as tho rain may help the grass fire situations. Jon Bushong says he has been planting some trees and it is so dry he can’t even find fishworms. Let’s all get behind the local Camp Fire Girls planning a special clean-up, pick-up fix-it week April 18-24. Syracuse Alumni Association officers have been meeting with plans upcoming soon for the annual meeting and if we have heard correctly, promises to be a nice one.
