Wilbur Smith is on a business trip to Washington. DiC. Airman Janna Adair has returned to Keesler air base. Biloxi. Miss., following a twoweek leave with her mother. Mrs. Helene Adair. Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Higgins have returned to the area from a winter at Palm Beach Gardens. Fla. Linda Pilcher and James Wortinger were united in marriage March 20 in the Bethany Church of the Brethren at New Paris. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Alfrey announce the engagement of their daughter. Alice, to Gordon Love with a late August wedding planned. The engagement announcement is made of Miss Eleanor Dean Godwin to Bruce Allan Cripe with a May 30 wedding planned. Work is in full swing at the Lake Wawasee fish hatchery site to renovate the area as a public facility to include a headquarters for conservation officers. FIVE YEARS AGO Varner M. Chance has been named the new Lakeland music co-ordinator. Mrs. Nancy Pratt has opened a new business in Wawasee Village to be called The Junk Shop. Mary Ellen Coleman is confined to her home with measles. The engagement of Miss Julie Ann Evans and Joseph E. Whitlock is announced with August 19 set for the wedding to take place in Muncie. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nine quietly observed their 50th wedding anniversary on April 5. Mr. and Mrs. Troy Haney, Hugh and Susie, of Indianapolis, were Sunday callers of the Herschell Coils. Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Connett, Buttermilk Point, have returned following a winter stay at Sarasota. Fla. Mrs. Bill Eyer was guest of honor at a pink and blue shower Friday evening. FORTY YEARS AGO The internal revenue collector was here Wednesday for a confidential matter. Stanley Carr, 2, with his badly injured finger last week, pulled a sauce pan of hot cereal from the edge of the kitchen stove this week, badly burning his right arm and leg. Work on the South Shore Country clubs 18-hole golf course is underway according to Roy Brown, manager. A defective flue or sparks from the chimney caused a fire run at the M? Bitner home, and gas stolen from a fire truck delayed firemen. Beginning next week, stores in Syracuse will be open on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights until further notice. Miss Marise Dillon is ill with the measles. . Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Blanchard and daughter Ruth had Sunday dinner with Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Sargent. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Thornburg spent Easter Sunday with relatives at Mariqn. Mrs. L. T.
