9 ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED — Miss Lois Hamm, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. C. W. Hamm of Chenoa. 111., is engaged to marry David Thurner. son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Thurner of Hebron. The bride-elect was graduated from Illinois Wesleyan university where she was a member of Sigma Alpha lota. She is currently completing her masters degree in education at St. Francis college, and teaching elementary music at North Webster school. Mr. Thurner Is a graduate of Hebron high school and Valparai-' so Technical Institute. He is presently employed in farming. A late July wedding is planned at St. Andrews United Methodist ' church. The fourth, category was “Most Interesting Subject Not Human”. Mrs. Don Schlabach, Syracuse, was the winner. The fifth category was “Best Caught off Guard Moment of a Husband - Anybody’s Husband.” The winner was Mrs. Schlabach. The hostess, Mrs. Miller, used Saint Patrick's as the theme for her decorations for the evening Refreshments of sandwiches, petits fours, lime sherbet, punch and coffee were served. The next meeting will be held on April 21 at the home of Mrs. Pat Meek at Dewart Lake. Pythian Sisters To Observe 30th Anniversary Lake view Temple, 448. Pythian Sisters of North Webster, celebrated their 30th anniversary March 22 at the K P hall in North Webster with guests from Warsaw, Syracuse and Elkhart. Mrs Ermal Vanator, Mrs. Carl Kissinger. Mrs Russel Engle, Mrs Myrtal Greisinger and Mrs. Ernest Myers of Warsaw were, honored as charter members. Mrs. George Staples was in charge of the program which consisted of songs and poems from the members. Mrs. Frank Green gave an interesting history of the paxi 30 years, highlights being when the old K. P. hall burned down and the present hall was dedicated in 1954. - The officers of Lakeview Temple served refreshments of cake and coffee during the social hour Senior Mothers Have Ceramic Lesson Members of the Syracuse Senior Mothers club met last week at the home of Mrs. Glenn Popenfoose for a lesson on ceramics presented by Mrs. Popenfoose There were 16 members and one guest, Mrs. Steve Bornman in attendance Refreshments were served by Mrs. George Myers and Mrs. Kenneth Elson. Salads Lend Support Or Take Spotlight
By SUSAN DELIGHT Copley News Service Salads can lend support to a great many party entrees planned to complement special occasions and themes. Or the salads can take the spotlight all by themselves. The traditional St. Patrick’s Day entree, corned beef, for instance, can be appropriately supported by a shamrockgreen molded salad, a combination of cabbage, celery, green peppers and scallions. And Spanish lamb salad can star at a Spanish-inspired buffet meal. . SPANISH LAMB SALAD One-third cup olive oil
x 4 cup lemon juice 2tbsps. vinegar 1 tbsp, fresh „ chopped chives 4 tsp. salt 4 tsp. basil leaves 4 tsp. pepper 3 cups slivered cooked lamb 4 cup sliced pimientostuffed olives 1 small green t pepper, sliced ’ 2 medium tomatoes, diced 2 hard-cooked eggs, sliced lettuce Blend oil, lemon juice, vinegar, chives and seasonings. Chill. Arrange lamb, olives, green pepper, tomatoes and eggs in lettucelined bowl. Pour dressing on top and toss. Makes six servings. LIMERICK SALAD 1 envelope unflavored gelatine leup cold water, divided 1 chicken bouillon cube 18-o z. bottle Green Goddess dressing 14 cups finely shredded cabbage 4 cup finely chopped celery 2 tbsps. finely chopped green pepper 2 tbsps. chopped scallions
Sprinkle gelatine over 4 cup of the cold water in saucepan; add bouillon cube. Place over low heat; stir constantly until gelatine and bouillon cube are dissolved, three or four minutes. Remove from heat; stir in remaining 4 cup water and Green Goddess dressing. Chill until mixture mounds slightly when dropped from a spoon. Fold in remaining ingredients. Turn into threecup mold; chill until firm. Unmold. Garnish with cucumber slices and salad greens. If desired, recipe may be doubled. Yield; four servings. Note: To unmold, dip quickly in and out of warm (not hot) water to depth of contents. Loosen around the edge with the tip of a paring knife. Place serving dish on top of mold and turn it upside down. Shake holding serving dish tightly to the mold. Ratrie • McGrew Wedding Rites Announced Mr. and Mrs. David L. McGrew of Syracuse announce the marriage of their son. SP4 Robert D. McGrew, to SP4 Angelita Ratrie of Laredo, Texas, on March 1 in Tokyo, Japan. Both young people are serving in the communications department with the U.S. army at Camp Yama near Tokyo. Mrs. Augsburger's Fur Stole Stolen While Senator and Mrs. John F. Augsburger were in Milford Friday, March 19 someone entered their room at the Columbia club on the circle in Indianapolis, and walked off with Mrs. Augsburger’s fur stole. The legislature was in recess for the week end and the Augsburgers had returned to Milford for the short holiday.

Demo Women Entertain Whitley County Women Kosciusko County Democrat Women met at Pierceton’s community building with the Whitley County Democrat Women as guests. Mrs. Esther Charlton, vice president, welcomed the guests with Mrs. Frank Mezzison, president of the Whitley county group, giving the response. Mrs. Glen Davis of Syracuse gave details on the coming spring and summer fling style show to be held April 21 which will be held at the Saint Andrew's United Methodist church fellowship hall at Syracuse. Fashions for the family will be shown. Helping on the style show’ arrangements are Mrs. Walter Miller of Syracuse. Mrs. John Ball of Warsaw. Mrs. Richard Morrison of Mentone, and Mrs. Raymond Custer of Milford. Jack Summe, county chairman, gave a briefing on the legislature and pending bills. Mrs. Stuart Stokes gave information on the upcoming dinner-salad bar which will be held at the firemen's building on Pike Lake in Warsaw at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. April 17. Mrs. Dale Bennett brought the organization's attention to the fact persons can no longer drive into Arlington National cemetery at Washington. D. C. Admittance has been taken over by a private concern called “Tourmobile” and cars and busses are no longer permitted to enter the national grounds. The group urged everyone present to write to their Congressmen and Senators and give their views against this. The hostesses, Mrs. Bennett, Mrs. Paul Beebe and Mrs. Charlton served refreshments to the 20 members and 11 guests. There will be no meeting in April as the members will assist with the two important activities mentioned above. OES Installation Os Officers Held At Milford Mar. 20 Installation of officers of the Order of the Eastern Star was held Saturday evening, March 20. in the Masonic temple at Milford with approximately 80 guests present from Norwalk, Dayton and West Milton. Ohio; Syracuse, Silver Lake, North Webster and Goshen. Mrs. Robert Ruch was in charge of the guest book. The chapter room was decorated byMrs. Cletus Myers and Mrs. Ray Bray and carried out the spring theme, using the colors and flowers of the worthy matronelect, Mrs. Silas Howard, Jr. The meeting was opened by the 1970-71 officers with Ted Brooks and Joe O Estep presiding. Mrs. Seth McFarren. installing officer, was escorted east and introduced. Mrs. Brooks and Estep, retiring worthy matron and patron, were presented past matron and past patron jewels as a gift from the chapter. Mrs. McFarren introduced her assistants for the evening — Mrs. Robert Ruch, installing marshall; Mrs. Herbert Baumgartner, installingchaplin; Mrs.C. D. Barnes, installing organist , and Joe Longenecker, installing soloist, who was accompanied by his wife. The' next stated meeting is scheduled for April 14, and initiation is planned for April 20. Busy Bee Club Meets March 26 The Busy Bee club met at the home of Mrs. Ray Bray Friday evening, March 26. She presided over the meeting in the absence of the president, Mrs. Erma Chambers. The pledge to the American flag and the home economics club creed were repeated by the group. “Blest Be The Tie That Binds” was used before Mrs. Cleveland Shuder gave the meditation thoughts, using “You Gave of Yourself’ and “My Thanks.” Mrs. Everette Buttrick read an article from a farm magazine. An article “How to Do Most Anything” was given by «Mns. Bray. Responses to roll call were "What I Like About Spring" and answered by eight members and one guest, Mrs. Leah Schuder. An election of officers was held, resulting in Mrs. Bray being chosen as president; Mrs. Cleveland Shuder, vice-president; Mrs. Herman Miller, secretarytreasurer. Following a short business session, the meeting was closed by all repeating the club collect. During the social hour, Mrs. Buttrick showed slides of scenes taken while she was in Hawaii. The hostess served refreshments and awarded door prizes to Mrs. Buttrick and Mrs. Shuder. Mrs. Leah Schuder received a guest prize. The next meeting will be held on April 16 at the home of Mrs. Arthur Gilbert. Mrs. Rodney Beer Honored At Stork Shower Mrs. Rodney Beer, Nappanee, was guest of honor at a stork shower Monday evening, held at the First Brethren church, Milford. The committee in charge of arrangement program and refreshments was Mrs. Herman Miller, Mrs. Glen Bixler, Mrs. Gail Geiger and Mrs. Gordon Rhodes, all of Milford. A color scheme of yellow and green was carried out in the table decorations and refreshments of lemon cake, lime sherbert, golden punch, coffee and mixed nuts. Mrs. Miller conducted three contests, with winners being Mrs. Jerald Radcliff, Mrs. Don Wolferman, both of Milford, and Mrs. Jerry Leiter, Leesburg. Mrs. Beer was assisted in opening her gifts by the Misses Tyrann Beer, Diane Perry, Linda Perry and Tracy Beer, all of Milford.
